My dad is always late. ALWAYS. Thankfully, I didn't get this horrible habit from him; I'm more like my mom, who is always early for everything.

I was listening to my dad talking to someone on the phone, and he said, "I'll be there at 2 o'clock." I just shook my head because I knew he wouldn't even be gone by 2.

Come 2 o'clock, he's in the shower. @_@

What prompted me to make this thread was a call of his that I just overheard. It was someone basically going "WHERE DAFUQ U AT?!" I had flashbacks of all those times as a kid when when he was 20-30 minutes late picking me up.

I suppose this a rant more than anything. Late people just really annoy me. BTW, I tried to see if I could make this thread before he left (it's 2:29 pm, lol). He was pulling out of the driveway and came back in for something. I mean, why bother going at this point?

Do late people piss you off, too?

People who are late really piss me off.

A manager I once worked with had the following gem:

To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late.

I live by this rule.

My current boss would be late to his own funeral, he is hopeless at time keeping. There's no excuses.

My wife makes us late to everything...but it's a double-edged sword. If it's something I don't want to go to, I don't stress at all, don't mention what time it is, etc...

In my case, it is my mom who is late, not my father. Thankfully, I didn't inherit that from her.

And sadly, this is the norm in Panama. We call it: "La hora Panameña". We say, we will meet at 9:00 pm, it is actually 10 pm.

And yes, this pisses me.

I'm more curious as to the thought process of these late people is. Why are they incapable of being on time? And if they know it's a problem, why not be extremely cautious about it next time?

My sister and her boyfriend are like this.
Since I don't have a car and live fairly close to my sister, I could grab a ride from her when we visit the family, but since she is exactly like OPs father, I usually and rather take a bus and walk to the family place instead.

Sometimes. It can be pretty annoying if it's for something important. If it's just a social gathering, I don't think it's that big of a deal.....I mean, I'm guilty of being late to those sometimes.

It's best to at least try and be on time....it's not real polite to keep people waiting.

"If you're not 5 minutes early, you're 5 minutes late" is one of those annoying quotes that is so ingrained by now that I live by it.

And then you start telling them to arrive at a fake time like an hour earlier, but they already know that you're feeding them a fake time and they show up whenever the fuck they want still.

I'll sometimes tell my wife we need to be somewhere an hour earlier than we actually do so that we're on time.

I can't do it every time though as she's onto me.

Yes.

Its not my fault. My gf always makes me so late. No amount of complaining about it will stop it. I kind of appreciate it with family functions though because no matter how late we are someone always outdoes us.

My Mom is always late. It infuriates me so much because she just wastes so much time.

I'm always early or on time as a result because I know all to well how annoying it is to be waiting for someone.

There was a guy I used to work with who was 5 - 10 minutes late every fucking day, which means I had to stay 5 - 10 minutes later than I should've had to, and usually off the clock. I complained about it to him, complained about it to our boss, but nothing every changed.

He had some bullshit excuse of "traffic", as if leaving 5 - 10 minutes earlier than normal was not physically possible.

Fuck people who are always late.

It's why I go to the movies alone.

A 7 listed start time doesn't mean be at the local gas station grabbing snacks to sneak in at 7, it means be in your seat at 7.

I had a roommate who got fired because he was late all the time. We worked at the same place with the same hours. He just never got prepared early enough to make it in time and was let go after being their for several years.

He did get better about arriving on time or early after getting married, but the way he'd be late for everything you would think he would have been late to his own wedding. Seriously, I remember him showing up to a friend's wedding as the ceremony was letting out. It was kind of insane to me for the longest time.

Do late people piss you off, too?

Only when it affects me being on time.

It's shite behaviour, yep.

Best thing to do is arrange a meeting time for 15/30/X/etc minutes before you actually intend to get there. You'll be "late" but so will the perpetually late person.

They do, and they don't get invited to anything. I don't fuck with people that waste my time.
Yup.

I'm not a late person and I don't like those who make me late or make me wait. You want me to come pick you up you better be ready by the agreed time or else I'm out.

Wife makes us late for everything and it drives me insane. I'm an early person, so I like to arrive to wherever I'm going ahead of time so that I don't have to stress out over anything.

So, for you people who get all bent out of shape at late people, what if they're just like.... 5 or 10 minutes late?

oh well first page... I am not that late this time
Everything in my life is late, so its the right time actually.

as for why I am late it goes by this:

"oh, I still have 40 minutes, lets check something quick on neogaf... ok, I think its been 20 minutes, oh SHIT HOW THE FUCK, 1 HOUR?!"

There's a person I work with who will schedule a meeting and always be 10-15 minutes late to every meeting they they chair. They just don't get how disrespectful it is to everybody who turns up on time.

Outside of work though it's Thai time (with the exception of going to see a movie of course).

Do late people piss you off, too?

No because I've never been on time for anything. People that expect you to be on time piss me off.

So are you always "late" late or just a few minutes?

If you are always truly late to stuff, why? You can tell time, you usually know how long it takes to get somewhere and how long it takes you to get ready.

Like, what's the problem?

Being on time isn't important.

Guy I use to be friends with was late so much that we told him to leave for an event or gathering but our own group would leave 45 minutes to an hour later to get him to show up on time.

somehow he still manages to be late

I've been told my whole life that Latin cultures (southern Europe, South America sometimes) are not as anal about punctuality as Anglo-Saxon cultures. No clue if that's true or not but I can't imagine planning to meet up with friends at 9PM and them showing up at 1030 like it's no big deal.

Work related i try my best to be on time, outside of that when hanging with friends i don't care that much, especially considering that being on time means staying there waiting for others to come.

I usually only get pissed if they fail to call or text me that they're running late without some sort of estimate. Like if it's been 10 minutes after the time we established I would have expected some sort of update to know whether they're on the way or if they haven't yet left.

I hate going to the movies unless I can make a day of it and see two or three things at once, so my friend being late will often create a situation where we can't see everything I was wanting to see. Because of that, I've cut way back on going to the theater and mostly just rent movies now.
