Perfect Dark Zero Details.
(May 6, 2005) -- Word from a little birdy who had a chance to play Perfect Dark Zero at an MTV Event. Though our source was under some non-disclosure limitations, he agreed to reveal some of the details to us under the condition of anonymity. As a result, we learned a number of different details about the sequel and Xbox 360 Launch title. Perfect Dark Zero can be best summed up as combination of Counter Strike's team-based gameplay and Splinter Cell's spy/stealth features. At Joanna's disposal will be over 22 weapons, including the return of the remote Laptop gun as well as a new invisibility gun. New to the Perfect Dark universe are personal teleporters, jetpacks, and a slew of spy gadgets. The graphics do not look like the early concept renders of Joanna, but rather realistic graphics that land somewhere in between Half-Life and Halo. Apparently the reps at the event also scanned in the entire body of one the other lucky attendees and put them in the game. Our source wasn't able to tell us with absolute certainty that this feature would available to anyone in the final game, so it could end up being a similiar case to that of the Gameboy Camera and Perfect Dark on the N64. However, we have heard pretty concrete rumors that the Xbox 360 will come with a USB camera for use on Xbox Live, so this may very well be a final production feature. Look for this MTV Event to be televised this Thursday at 9:30pm, at where else, MTV or alternatively on CTV in Canada.

I guess I won't be getting Xbox360 at launch after all.

Sounds cool, especially if there's some Spy vs Merc flavor to the multiplayer.

And thank god they dropped the old look. :D

I'm not a Perfect Dark fan, didn't play the original, but what is exactly wrong with this piece of news? And yeah I'm glad they ditched the old look too

why is perfect dark all of a sudden hot shit?
i dont remember it being that well....or Rare being that well, for that matter.

Well, granted i was quite young, i remember playing it and just not clicking. and Rare, well, the only thing they've done for me is Diddy Kong Racing when i was like 8. Conker got old.

are you insane? That game kicked ASS! It's been hot shit for years.

And Rare was one of the most well regarded game development studios for most of last generation (and well, well before!) But they really hit it with the mainstream last gen.

I wasn't a fan of Perfect Dark either. It was crippled by hardware limitations, had a horrible story, and levels weren't inspired enough for me to return to them over and over like Goldeneye.

That said, this Rarenet story is lifted from that gaming radio broadcast with a moderately drunk and potentially Microsoft funded party girl who compared Perfect Dark Zero to every successful franchise out there.

Were you the guy who was nine or ten when you got a PS2? If so when Rare was considered "hot shit" you would have been barely out of diapers.

Given their output this gen...

No, apparently they know someone else who played it - nothing to do with the PMS clan thing.

That really doesn't get me interested in the game. Squad based? Meh. And the graphics are somewhere between Halo and HL2. WTF? Thought graphics would be better. Hmm...

Laptop gun is the coolest thing ever! Die you freakish aliens! Oh the memories.

Any chance of a revolution port? :(

The graphics comment was obviously with regard to STYLE.

Reading between the lines of Allard's talk of timing, we believe he is referring specifically to release of Rare's games on the next generation system (Xbox 360). Particularly, Perfect Dark Zero will be making full use of the power of the new system, complete with expansive online gaming and other innovative next-gen features.

So the game is going to look better than last year's PC games?

I guess not... I hope this is BS.

Uh. It's talking about the realisticness of the graphics, not quality wise.

I don't know about him, but I was about 9 when Perfect Dark came out, and I played justa bout every Rare game.

I hope this game turns out good, this news actually made me want it more.

The HL2-Halo 2 references are probably just a rough generalization that the graphics will be realistic-looking as opposed to the previous cartoon-look. I wouldn't look too much exactly into the wording. Also the source is separate from the audio clip.

With all the time Rare is taking, this and Kameo should really look amazing on Xbox360.

chances of Kameo looking Amazing = very low.

I'm too lazy to dig out images but

Nintendo's LOZ Mature Link = Hot Green Elf

Rare's Kameo's = Ugly shemale Elf (bad art)

Only comparing them because Rare redesigned Kameo to be an elf. There is a vast difference in artistic talent.

Maybe, but it's the same info.

From the audio clip thread:
