Persona 5 TGS trailer

That might just be a sign of poor taste, to be honest.

Doesn't help that I'm a bigger fan of Star Ocean than Final Fantasy than Persona. :P

Hey, at least SO5 has an actual release date compared to those two games I'm also hyped for... Not to mention I haven't been waiting for years for SO5. :(

Am I the only one that looked up the barcode on the boulder in the trailer hoping it would lead to something? It ended up being far a PS3 VGA cable.

Looks like one of the yet to be unveiled members has a tail

Isn't that the fox mask guy from the first trailer? You can see his tail when he jumps off the billboard.

What months belong to Summer 2016?

Also I'll be in the minority here but: Star Ocean 5 > FFXV > Persona 5 TGS trailers. :P

You know what's great about SO5? It's beautiful (in terms of sceneries) and it's coming out less than a year after it was announced.

I'll usually say that everyone has their own opinion, but I can't believe you're putting a 60% rehash trailer with ZERO gameplay over this p5 trailer.

You can see 6 people there, including the cat, which fits the 6 voices you hear at the trailer start. The first 4 we know of, tanuki with the tail is blue tatsuya, and there's the brown hair girl(?) right next to him.

I think your wording comes off a bit patronizing, but I don't think it was intentional. I actually also firmly fall in the camp of usually preferring subtitles with the original voice acting (in this case, Japanese). It's "gibberish" but my reasoning follows the same logic as to why I prefer subtitles in foreign films and animation over dubs: the cast is how the original director envisioned representing the characters. Those actors and actresses were selected for their particular talents, but most importantly, their emotive line delivery is how the director intended it to be.

This isn't a knock on dubbing. Dubbing can be very good but, in the end, it uses assumptions and best guesses to translate the original director's intentions. I want to play the game (or watch a film/show) as it was originally intended. That is my personal reasoning.

Just a train of thought here, but I think it's hard for "original vision" to be meaningful when talking about a large-scale entertainment product. When character designers created, they envisioned a certain voice. When the writers wrote, they envisioned a certain voice. When the director saw these designs and scripts, they have their own take for the voice. The sound directors put their own spin. The voice actors use their own interpretation.

Any part of this process might have flubbed, might not be up to par, and might not even agree with each other. There are things that just couldn't be fixed and polished, because time and money is limited. Not to mention if executive meddling is involved. The end product would most likely not what the director were perfectly content with, but what they deemed good enough. A localization effort would only add just another step to this web of compromises.

Of course, often times, the localization effort is the weakest link of the process, thus bringing down the work as a whole. It's not necessarily true, though. A great localization effort could also elevate the work in such a way that it's the version that the director actually prefer.

I see it like this, no matter how hype trailers are, and how exciting they seem in the movement, the game has to speak for itself when I finally get my hands on it.

So if someone is more excited for SO5's trailer over Persona and Final Fantasy, whatever. I kinda get it because SO3 was a bummer and I wasn't much of a fan of SO4, so SO5 has some low standards to compete against in its series

Yea...uh...not wrong on that count, but I was referring to the FF15 trailer, not SO.

So you're saying they're ripping their faces as they rip their masks, then? I think that's what people are saying.

The tweet loaded for me before the images, and reading it made it sound a lot worse than it actually looked. I've seen it before and it didn't really bother me.

Star Ocean faces , elegiggle .

Funny that my list is the exact opposite .

P5 trailer > ffxv > star ocean

Am I missing something with FF XV? They showed practically nothing.

I had less expectation for Star Ocean V, so it was a nice surprise too see it actually looks good. Persona still looks good, that last 5 seconds though...

Star Ocean > Persona > FF

I think it's more of I've seen more gameplay for FFXV and SO5 than in P5 to get me more excited. I saw SO5's 5 minute pure gameplay preview and I've played the FFXV demo. Sadly P5 still shows little gameplay compared to those two. Hence why I'm more excited for SO5 and FFXV. Don't get me wrong but I'm also excited for P5.

It might change if there's an actual playthrough for P5. Anyway my trailer preferences for the TGS ones come with what I've seen before, not to mention I really like FFXV's overall theme.

The new summoning method:

Known for a while now, but it's cool to see more examples.

Yuck. I hope that's only during the initial summon and they don't do it every single time. I think it's only during the initial summons since Anne, MC, and New Guy are all in their school uniforms and not their Phantom Thief costumes.

Also New Guy doesn't go to the same school as them if his uniform logo is any indication. Yay for rival schools.

The only persona I ever played was P4G and I didn't get too far in it before my vita was stolen. But are personas basically stands?

Yes. There's much more of a Jungian slant to them, though, and they're tied more to the user's personality than what I saw in part 3.

So the Personas are gonna be named after outlaws?
  • Arsène
  • Zorro
  • Billy the Kidd
  • Bonnie
  • Clyde
  • John Stamos
  • Star-Lord

Not just outlaws, but picaresque romance figures. Goemon and The Fiend With Twenty Faces are likely the ones next to Arsene, Zorro and the two others for Ryuji and Anne.

The first one with the 2D blood is probably the first time. Definitely seems like you do it every time.
