Persona Community Thread |OT9| SPOILER TAGS OR DIE

i hate to japanese culture this one but that particular pose is pretty much japanese generic-brand slapstick humour pratfalling

Right, but that almost exclusively happens to goofy characters

latest

On the one hand, it's incredibly amusing how Ann's knocked down animation is so out of place. The dissonance is really funny and if they were trying to make a point about how even a cool cat like Ann is actually kind of a goober, then they deserve points for that. Sadly, I don't think they were going for that; it reads more like this than pure comedy.

Ann is sexualised pretty badly. Her awakening scene is the only one with sexual overtones to it as well.

I thought this was pretty interesting.

P-Studio needs to step up their writing game. They're capable of better.

Can anyone with the game record this critical finisher so we can compare it in Japanese and English?

Right now Makoto is more like Chie than her own character vocally, and I don't believe it was like that in the original.

i haven't had every character crit'd yet but I'm pretty sure every single one of them does the slump arse-in-air pratfall. Panther's suit is skintight though, so maybe that's more it

my only real complaint with what I understand of P5's writing so far is with the beach scene. No, not Futaba hiding her face, that's actually treated really well.
But seriously... it's 2016 and they just basically do the P3 joke again, except in HD. What the fuck, Persona team. It pops up earlier as well and it's just as bad there imho

Honestly, I hope the localisation team just flat out axes that scene. I cannot think of a single benefit to bringing it to the west, especially given the demographics and attitudes of Persona's general fanbase.

They should keep it so there's a backlash, and Atlus Japan learns to stop making tasteless jokes. Or they should keep it because the majority don't really care, and there will outcries of censorship if they cut it.

We've seen Ryuji, Morgana and Joker's knockdown animation from the demo, and they were all pretty normal.

Pretty sure its an Ann specific thing since I've seen lewd memes about it already.

And yeah that scene is ass. This thread blew up when we first discovered it, lmao.

Can't help but see a bit of a bias here towards songs with lyrics.
That said,
Life Will Change
is fucking perfection and absolutely deserves the number 1 spot.

I actually agree with the bgm ranking, maybe except #5.
For character ranking I get where it's coming from.

So, does that mean all 5 top tracks are late-game/tracks we don't know? Holy shit. Beneath The Mask, Life Will Change, the OP, Last Surprise are already god tier. Holy shit.

No, two of the songs you listed there are in the top 5. It's just that the names for some could be considered spoilers.

Oh my god Sarasvati is incredible lmao. She basically carried me through the steamy bathbouse.

Innervate 2 was incredible for being able to rush through the dungeon in a single day without having to rely on consumables and the fox. I only healed at the fox before the final boss to recover the SP of the rest of my party.

This game is such a blast, I prefer to keep things relatively blind but the amount of stuff to do and how tricky they are to find makes me almost want to play with a guide but I'm resisting.

Is there an NG+ for p4g? What carries over? I doubt my persona's would carry over lol.

Everything carries over except for s-link ranks, even your level (but not your party members').

Oh wow, that's awesome since now I feel liberated to just go ham and play without worrying about screwing stuff up. I can already tell this is going to be a game I'll play through many many many times over.

A ghost after my own heart!

Wait....you continue with your own level?..............the fuck?

Nah, I'm pretty sure your level is reset in P4G. You can however summon Personas from the Compendium at any level.
In P3 your protagonist kept his level though.

Yeah. I've noticed these polls and the Fire Emblem ones seem to have a majority of female voters I believe. I think it also lines up with what I figured in the last poll where I figured a good number of female voters chose Makoto.

Nice try, bub. All I'm seeing is lack of competition.

Are you joking? The guys are soooooooo much better in P5. Like, Joker, Yusuke, Goro, Ryuji?

DESTRUCTION

Makoto? Anne? Futaba? Haru?

They're great but not, GODLIKE.

Ryuji's arc alone? GOODBYE.

Husbandos are too strong as people will find out. Please nerf

Maybe, but also see above :x

Play the game before making claims like that.
Ryuji's arc is probably the weakest of the lot. Anne and her relationship with Shiho steal the show during that dungeon.

ryuji is probably the most unlikeable party member with some of the stuff he does later

I say this as someone who actually really likes Ryuji, but he's certainly the person I'm expecting will be the least popular character unfortunately. At first he has some really admirable qualities, like his extreme dislike for injustice, but he doesn't really do a whole lot during the first dungeon, and takes a serious backseat to Anne. Then for the rest of the game he's really just comic relief and loses his temper a lot.

yeah

Yeah, Pretty big spoilers for mid-late game stuff, would advise not to read:
I get the impression a lot of people will go off him after his fight with Morgana. I personally was actually happy to see the writers be willing to have internal conflict with the cast, but it definitely made him drop a few points as far as likeability goes. That said, I can't help but be happy they did fight, otherwise we'd never have gotten to see rogue-Morgana team up with Haru.

YEAH, WELL.

At least he's one of the best characters in terms of gameplay, so THERE.

Still going to believe in my boy. Until I beat the game first hand, I absolutely don't want to write him off.

Like I say, P5 characters don't have the same appeal as P4. That's why the character rankings are a bit funky.

In terms of the OST, is number 3 the final boss theme? Because if it is, then Japanese fans have shit taste.

Dantis

Really? I could never decide how much I liked that one. I feel like a lot of the vocal tracks would be better if Lyn's English was better.
Personally, I thought instrumental stuff was generally stronger.

Also, random fact: this is the first Persona game that Soejima has drawn an illustration for on the OST.

I think that's the
Casino
theme.

it is. #2
replaces the boss theme for the last few but the final boss gets his own unique vocal-less track

YEAH, WELL.

he has a few cool things going for him imo!
his PT outfit is one of the better ones imo, and shotguns + his initial persona are cool!

Last Surprise
is so much better then
Life Will Change
. Also disappointed by the lack of
Beneath the Mask

I'm so buying the soundtrack when it releases, I haven't heard much but from what I have it's so good.

It's decent, but definitely weaker than P3 and P4, I think.

I'm not sure about P4, but I like P5's vocal tracks a lot more than P3's.

I'm also somewhat surprised Joker didn't get the top spot in that survey.

The problem with P5 is that it has some really standout tracks, and then a fair few that are just there. It's not that the standout tracks are of a lesser quality, but there's a lot less than in P3 and P4.

I'm spoilering the below because people are jittery, but it's not spoilers. It's a comparison of track usage (non-specific in P5's case).
Beneath The Mask, for example, plays for the whole game. There's four versions of it, sure, but is that one track better than New Days, Signs of Love, Your Affection and Heartbeat, Heartbreak? Nope! Then Golden also has Snowflakes on top of that!
There's no equivalent to Backside of The TV, another standout track.
There's an equivalent to Heaven, but it completely lacks any poignancy (nor is it intended to).
There's an equivalent to I'll Face Myself, but again, it's not even close.
The two final boss themes are miles off the final boss themes from P3 and P4.
The credits song - usually a highlight of a Persona game - is a really straight forward J-pop song. It could have been from anything. The fact it's not in the top 5 songs says something, I think. Compared to Memories of You, Brand New Days and Never More? PLEASE. Not even close.
There's an equivalent to Smile, but again, it has nowhere near the emotion.
Even the title theme (which is fine) isn't a patch on A Corner of Memories. Likewise, Never More was a consistent recurring motif. Here, the credits theme shows up in a single track, so it means nothing.

P5's music is far from bad. A lot of it ranges from good - very good. But P3 and P4 were exceptional on this front, and P5 isn't. A few guys in the OT were saying that it's one of Meguro's weaker OSTs. I'm not sure about that, but it's not P3 and P4.

EDIT: In terms of actual vocals, I'd put Lyn below Harata and about the same as Kawamura.

EDIT: In terms of actual vocals, I'd put Lyn below Harata and about the same as Kawamura.

P5 has several everyday songs. Behind the Mask is not the only one. In addition to the four versions of Behind the Mask are 2 more everyday themes that play depending on whether there is currently a Target or Deadline.
I'd wager that having songs like the 6 much easier on the ears everyday themes P5 has are far better than the obnoxiously repetitive songs P3/4 have.
The weapons/medical shop music in P5 is miles ahead of the other games, as is almost every single event theme. The "emotional" scene music in P5 is fantastic, and makes the counterparts in P4 look embarrassing by comparison. P5's anime cutscenes are also individually scored, rather than just using the same music present in the rest of the soundtrack like P3/4. There's also far, far more of them, making this an even more impressive feat.
As for Backside of the TV, sorry, but dear lord I hate that song. Unlike some of P4's songs that simply grated on me, I hated that from the getgo. Meanwhile all of P5's dungeon music is top tier and every dungeon has 2 different themes that fit their settings perfectly. Life Will Change is also not only a fantastic song, but is also used brilliantly, making for an exciting, adrenaline inducing moment every time.
Whims of Fate and Will Power are both superior to Heaven and I'll Face Myself too, but of course that comes down to preference.
Rivers in the Desert is potentially - if not definitely - the best boss theme the series has had, and is used brilliantly, switching from instrumental to vocals.
The first phase of the final boss theme is a little underwhelming, but the second phase is fantastic, and choreographs with the cut-scene at hand perfectly making for a downright unforgettable moment.
The credits song is also much more fitting of the style of game P5 is, and you're straight wrong about it not being a recurring song, it's an alternative version of Determination. I can't help but find it a little ironic that you'll criticize P5's credits theme for being "too J-pop" but praise songs like Signs of Love, Your Affection, or Heartbeat Heartbreak, which are far more guilty of that, and far less fitting for their context. No, it's not the title screen music, but there's no reason P5 has to use its music in exactly the same way P3 or P4 did. That's just absurd.
I'd probably put Lyn on par with Kawamura, and I'd put both of them far above Hirata - but I guess that shows our difference in tastes.

Dantis

Well, I mean, that's great, but you clearly don't think much to P4 and P3's soundtracks, so you'd obviously disagree.

A few of your comparisons were wrong (as in, you were comparing the wrong tracks), and what you said about the everyday tracks is an opinion I don't think will be shared by most players.

Some of the dungeon themes are excellent though.

Are we really spoiler tags the song names now .... like jfc there just song names is not like the songs are called "x death sad theme" " shock final battle" there just simple songs titles and most of them already reveal officially by Atlus : Last Surprise , Beneath The Mask , Life Will Change ... unless you listen of them you can tell which is which and even if you listen to them you cant really tell in which parts of the game they play unless you spoil yourself with gameplay.
Say when the song plays it is but not the song itself

Just because i say Rivers in the Desert is the best track in game are not giving away anything by that title could be a credits song , final boss , mid boss battle theme , dungeon theme .... who knows until i play it in game

I get it people are bitchy about spoilers but this maybe too much

So what people dont think the game has a final theme like all of smt games or didnt expect some people didnt like it because is one of the weakest final themes Meguro ever made (dude spoil me with greatness so far so im sad that one didnt live the hype)

If the most people agree sure i spoil tag OST names , still thinking is dumb asf but sure

Coming next : spoil tag who favorite / less favorite character is because can hurt my expections boo boo

PD: Anyway can get a url or source for the polls of the top 5.

I spoil tag everything just in case, even if I know next to nothing about the game. It does make it harder to distinguish what is a legitimate spoiler and what isn't when people are discussing with spoiler tags flying around, so imo it's more detrimental than it is helpful.
I get not wanting to have your expectations colored by someone else's opinions on the ost or final boss though, even if I don't mind it myself. At the end of the day I'll still come to my own conclusions when I have the game on my hands anyway.
