so many cute cats and dogs in this thread. I've always been more of a dog person, but there were quite a few stray cats in Cyprus that convinced me they're awesome. I've known a few other people with cats, and they absolutely love them...
I've never really owned a proper pet. I don't think I would be at all, but I'd be worried about being negligent.

My parents got a new puppy last week. He is a Havanese, and his name is Oscar. He's the sweetest, friendliest little guy. It's so cool to see him experience things for the first time. He loves everyone, and it's such an awesome feeling to have something that is always excited to see you. Every time I would come into the kitchen, where my parents are keeping him while he's being trained, he would get super excited, no matter how much time had passed since he last saw me. He's great and a perfect example of how wonderful owning a dog can be.

I don't have any great pictures to post of my new kitten yet, but this little girl wandered into my parents driveway last week, and my mom decided to keep her:

Benji and Poppy:
Poppy (the dog, a shih tzu) is blind and has CCD (canine Alzheimer's, basically) now - she's 16 - so she doesn't get up to a lot anymore. She basically sleeps all day and then walks around in circles all night crying. Sad
The cat is older (17) but is still in good shape, and just about tolerates the dog. When Poppy was little she used to chase him all the time and when she got too old for that he'd whack her across the face all the time, but they've gotten to tolerate each other in old age and now he basically ignores her. He's awesome though. Very talkative and sociable.
The only other pets I have photos of here are the tortoises, Bowser and Olly II:
But in addition to those we've got a snake, two leopard geckos, and a chinchilla.
Oh, and cats > all other pets.

yay! finally some tortoises. i had a turtle and a tortoise for years but had to give them up when i moved. they are really cute and fun, low-maintenance pets. i like the names, too! bowser is a really cool name.
