Fifth time it seems:

He's defending someone using racist slurs casually. Not sure how you think he's not taking a middle ground.
"I'm sure he just doesn't know what he was saying and is super sorry" is a defence. One that PDP has long since lost the right to as well.

Honestly the idea that we need to focus on the peoples probably feeling sorry abouy what they did instead of focusing on the victims needs to go away already.

Oh man, just seen the thread and watched the clip.

The way he spat out the n-word the first time was horrible.
It sounded like he says that kind of thing regularly when he's off camera.

Because it is. Think of when you get angry and frustrated do you just start saying stuff you never say? Do words you NEVER use pop in your head and you start using them at that exact moment? Of course not, so one can make an educated conjecture that this is something he had familiarity with saying and just got caught saying it while using his platform.

Youtube should ban this guy already.

Of course they should. People have been banned for far less (typically thanks to their terrible shoot first, ask questions never copyright system but I digress).

What they should do and what they probably will do are two totally separate situations. Should they ban him? Absolutely. Will they? Probably not. Now, if more media outlets get a story up about this and more advertisers start to pull away from YouTube over this then maybe...

Another guy "in the middle" who has a lot of views and subs educating people on the matter. Says he hasn't made up his mind yet where he stands.

https://youtu.be/7wGDvthZ0ng

I really don't understand that stance. So they can't decide if they are pro-racism or not? Can't they clearly see the way PDP used the word? I'm 28 born and raised in the UK and I've never heard it being used like that by anyone around me.

I can see how it's a complete catch 22 for youtubers.

If they speak up they're agreeing with a certain level of censorship and regulation on their content and videos

If they don't speak up then it's the feeling of standing in solidarity and feeling like they have control over the platform and the youtube community.

Even the most noblest of youtuber i imagine will just say something very non committal along the lines of "He shouldn't of said it, it's unfortunate. We'll see what/if anything happens" assuming they say anything at all.

We have a thread for this discussion, so this is the final post on this.

There is a certain level of censorship on YouTube. Always was. Now acting like "Oh no, censorship" looks rather ugly.

dayum and he even admits he sometimes forgets the camera is live. what a god damn jackass.

lol @ boogie still salty over neogaf. why is it all game related personalities tend to be shit?

Slightly off topic, but this thread prompted me to watch a couple of his recent videos to see what his channel about, and its pretty bad. On a surface level its bad enough, but his opinions and views seem incredibly toxic. Given that his videos garner millions of views, its pretty scary to think about the amount of people, particularly children who are likely soaking up this garbage. YouTube needs to grow a spine and just ban him.

Boogie is already on record saying there is a middle ground between racists and anti-racists and that middle ground is a great place to be. Now he is spending his time expressing a great deal of concern over imaginary victims in a hypothetical scenario that does not exist instead of being concerned about PDP's racism and the influence he has over his audience. I'm not distorting anything.

To be fair, you are assuming an awful lot there.

Imaginary victims? Not imaginary. Everyone suffered due to Felix being a bigot last time. Everyone.

Hypothetical scenario? This scenario already played out once, and it gimped youtube payouts to channels that were in no way vulgar or hateful. It could very easily happen again.

Racists and anti-racists? Sounds like a person's opinion that in no way hates on anyone. If he believes there are racists and anti-racists causing a middle ground somewhere, okay? I have no opinion there.

Boogie doesn't hate on anyone. He isn't a hateful person. He stands up for things that he believes is right, but he never attacks anyone. That is why he is standing up for other youtubers that could be affected by a bigot Felix once again.

Google hasn't given a shit about their platform being a haven for racists since it began. Look at the comments of any video involving a black person or someone from the Middle East. Their system actually makes racist shit more visible and prevalent.

They will do nothing.

"So there's today's wishy washy fence setting for you. Feel free to unleash the butthurt. I look forward to the neogaf thread."

Lol

Maybe it'd appeal to his middle-ground sensibilities to understand that he can resent NeoGAF and not have to defend people who consciously use racist slurs in an attempt to insult and demean. There's a middle ground where he can unequivocally call out disgusting behavior and maintain the any butthurt he harbors for this site as a result of being shown the door.

It's actually incredibly easy to both come out and say "Hey fuck Pewdiepie that racist shitstain but also here are my reservations about developers using copyright takedown functionality in ways it's not intended to be used." You're not forced to be stuck in some weird position where you have to be lumped in with youtube shitters who are afraid to call out their own if you want to talk about the DMCA thing.

What Boogie is saying, is not that. He's doing this wishy-washy bullshit he always does because he's a fucking pussy.

Welcome to Youtube, where your 6-year old kid can watch a few nice Minecraft videos, and then get slowly introduced to the alt-right. Youtube really needs to make large changes to its platform. Advertisers are starting to force their hands a bit now, because large brands don't want to be tied to these videos anymore since The Wall Street Journal reported about it and opened their eyes to the possible PR disasters waiting to happen.

Isn't it sort of disconcerting to you that before Boogie 'condemned' (in the meekest way possible) what Felix said he first talked about how he was worried about how it would make YouTubers look?

How fucking twisted is your moral compass that you think of yourself and income before the actual blatant racism on display?

I wonder how he's going to handle damage control. I can see him clinging on to the weak "context people, it matters" argument so he can keep his edgy fans happy.

Man Notch really wants to die on this hill going by his tweets
That pathetic, sad, little billionaire who you'd think would have better things to do with his time than whine about "SJWs" on social media is a pathetic, dad, little excuse of a person.

Something tells me he must be a very very very unhappy person.

I really don't see any way of him getting around this. He's clearly using the word in a negative way because shortly after saying it he then says 'what a fucking asshole' suggesting that he was using the word as an insult.

He knows he fucked up as well.

He is standing up for racist people. There is no middle ground between racism and anti racism.

It's not his job to judge. His job, the thing he does to bring in money for his family is youtube content. Nothing about his moral compass. I would be concerned if he came out endorsing it.

If anything, I see people taking a stance and telling PDP to "stop fucking with the money with stupid antics" so who is Boogie defending? No one because those people are already telling PDP to go to hell.

And yes, Boogie defended Jontron's anti-semitic rants during that great debate that outed Jontron as a racist.

I'm pretty sure that gif that goes around where Boogie says "isn't the middle just a great place to be" or whatever, is from that video on Jontron too.

I wonder how he's going to handle damage control. I can see him clinging on to the weak "context people, it matters" argument so he can keep his edgy fans happy.

I predict he goes full apology and hopes for the best, because there's really no way to wiggle out of it. Like, he said it. We can all see that he said it.

I think the majority of his fanbase will accept the apology or or will even think there's nothing to apologize for. I think, from his perspective, the real danger is from companies wanting to dissociate from him.

It's not his job to judge. His job, the thing he does to bring in money for his family is youtube content. Nothing about his moral compass. I would be concerned if he came out endorsing it.
There's nothing to 'judge'. He used his platform and stature to say racism is less of a big deal than DMCA strikes on gaming videos.

You also seem to be okay with that.

What he said there makes sense and it's why Boogie is on of the very few personalities I even watch anymore.

He isn't defending Pewdiepie or what he said. He is defending the right to free speech on media platforms for those that AREN'T blatantly racist. That is who he means when he says "those caught in the middle". Meaning those that could be punished because of the act of one personality.

That is NOT what free speech is.

I really don't see any way of him getting around this. He's clearly using the word in a negative way because shortly after saying it he then says 'what a fucking asshole' suggesting that he was using the word as an insult.

He knows he fucked up as well.
Yeah. I mean, it's bad enough if he used the word as a friendly term.

But he used it in a derogatory manner, which is incredible. No coming back from that.

It's not his job to judge. His job, the thing he does to bring in money for his family is youtube content. Nothing about his moral compass. I would be concerned if he came out endorsing it.
He has again and again gone out of his way to defend sexists, transphobes, and racists. Fuck Boogie.

Pewdiepie said something racist? Quell surprise. That man showed his ass with that nazi stunt and gave away exactly who he was at that. So this doesn't surprise me one bit. And boogie continuing to being a cowardly fence sitter is still par for the course for him. Fuck boogie.

Here's what Boogie did in a nut shell: People are talking about racism? I declare I'm here to protect transgender people! *this issue has nothing to do with trans rights or harassment. He's just another white guy trying not to talk about racism and pointing at some other issue: see there's prejudice over there too!

Quicky ran through the middle of the thread.

Anyone born in Europe needs to stop the fucking bullshit about him not really understanding what the word means. Im black born and raised in the UK, but now living in Canada. Growing up around many people who came from other EU countries, people most definitely knew what the fuck Nigger means, no matter what race/ethnicity you were.

So please stop the fucking bullshit.

Im so fucking tired of people in Europe claiming they're not racist, racism isnt a big deal "here" or certain words dont hold the same weight because he/she wasnt born in America.

JUST. FUCKING. STOP

He has no problem being a shield for his friends when they're accused of being terrible racist shit bags...

but make a fat joke, and you're an evil fucking monster and beyond forgivable.

I still do not believe that he truly is a racist or white supremacist. Of course as a man in his position it is the uttermost wrong thing to say, but I do not feel like he is a staunch racist.

Think most pressure should be on twitch/YouTube now.
PDP will always be a racist, racist-enablers will always do their thing, etc etc.

This is now a case of should internet broadcast services allow making money from racist content?

No, they shouldn't.

Saw this article passed around on Twitter.

https://medium.com/@ashelia/i-dont-use-the-n-word-e4a9dfdfe0b3

This bit is important.

Honestly, if Pewds were anyone else — a Hollywood actor, a top lawyer, anyone — he’d get banned from his career. It would be a major misstep. Absolutely no one would care nor defend him either, especially half the people defending PewDiePie now, because they’d know he essentially committed career suicide.

But in gaming, we’re acting like we get to re-imagine what is culturally acceptable and insist he didn’t mean it that way as if we get to re-appropriate a word. We argue that to defend his use of the slur is to defend everyone’s right to free speech, not realizing you can defend free speech and still condemn someone’s speech as toxic at the same time.

Boogie displayed more issues with Neogaf than with flatout racism.

But he is right in the middle, am I right?

He took a side, get over it.

Of course he does. There's no doubt about it.

Yep, seems pretty clear he does. Just been smart enough to not say it on camera until now.

Maaaan the amount of venom in his voice too doesn't help.
Shit even if he got angry playing the game, this is just exposing yourself to being overtly racist.

Really horrible stuff.

Thanks for pulling the words out of my head.
You said everything I was thinking.

I still do not believe that he truly is a racist or white supremacist. Of course as a man in his position it is the uttermost wrong thing to say, but I do not feel like he is a staunch racist.

So what

I mean he probably actually is but so what if he isn't when he acts like he is.

I still do not believe that he truly is a racist or white supremacist. Of course as a man in his position it is the uttermost wrong thing to say, but I do not feel like he is a staunch racist.

Words, especially words like that, don't just "slip out". They have to be somewhere in his regular vocabulary.

USA it's not Europe. Don't import your shit there. The nigger word in Europe doesn't have all the "slave" background, and atleast for me, when i hear that word i can't see the problem. In my country, the equivalent word "negro" is even on our vocabulary, and no, it's not racist.
Of course you can use it in a racist way, as you can use every other work as a racist insult, so, we have to ban the entire vocabulary? Stop being a butthurt, and don't import shitty USA culture here in Europe.
