The Inside Track
A few informations, some already known, a few brand new about Project Gotham Racing 3 from the latest OXM :
- 80 cars, all able to go at least to 170 mph
- 6 weeks to create one car, 40.000 polys for the interior alone
- Car data acquired from real live vehicules as much as possible
- Ability to grab your own screenshots from whatever angle you want
- Race creator to edit your own track in the city you chose. Seems quite easy to use.
- 5 cities (New York, Tokyo, and 3 to be unveiled later)
- 3d spectators, all unique looking and reacting to the race
- sound was recorded from every "noisy" point in the car, exhaust, engine, induction system...
- Licensed soundtrack
- No tuning (YAY !)
- 12 players on Xbox Live
- Damage modeling, with some impact on performance
- Force Feedback wheel is planned for near launch time

Can't wait to see the track editor..are they going to provide a completley wide-open city environments and let you trace tracks through them arbitrarily? That'd rock.

Nope, you put a starting and end point (if any), then you can select any intersection to create your track. Each time you select a point it displays which point you can select next. Seems easy and powerful enough. Of course you have to stay on the road ;)

Also, London is confirmed to be a city in it.
Not officially yet, but it's been mentioned. I had been told a few months ago that there would be 4 cities so I'm happy to see there is a fifth one. Hopefully this one will have a few heights, I love tracks with jumps and lots of up/down hill. Edimburg rocked in PGR2 !

Oh please let two of the "unveiled" cities be Chicago and Moscow. :)
No cities from PGR2 AFAIK, and Chicago was my least favorite city in PGR2 so I won't complain if it disappears ;)

Right, I see, I don't care too much for London either, but just how much of these cities will be driveable?

Also, wasn't there a screenshot of a Paris course?

I think it was just a technology test. Since Paris is the last PGR2 city modeled I guess they used their reference material to quickly model a few places and use them for this particular image.

Edinburgh was awesome!

The pattern of cities would suggest San Francisco is back too... I'd like that. Either way I can guarantee you now one of the two remaining cities is American. Which leaves one wildcard... Hong Kong again! Please! PLEASE!

Hehe, I wasn't suggesting to go completely crazy, driving up onto building tops or anything, just anywhere where there's road ;) But that's a pretty decent and simple-to-use solution.

No San Francisco, unless it's the fifth city (doubtful). Too bad, SF rocked in PGR !

Given that the Midtown Madness franchise is probably dead, I was hoping that perhaps PGR would incorporate at least some of the cruising aspects if MM, if not the game types, but this...

...while close, doesn't sound like it'll capture the free formness of MM. Any suggestions for someone jonesing for some new MM action?

It's not mentionned anywhere in the article, but I guess that Bizarre could implement a free roaming mode in the game. At least there seems to be no technical limitation (like some special optimization files used in PGR2 for each track) since you could actually create a track that would allow you to see 100% of the level details.

That sucks! And yeah, that was one thing about PGR2, it had a lot of cool cities but I'd have loved to play some of the originals (London, Tokyo and SF) again.

Of course, the fifth city could always be the one that's been rumoured both for PGR2 and the first city pack... Liverpool! Not like it'd be hard to model that for Bizarre :-P

No, Why haven't they said anything about 60 fps. I'm proud of you guys. :)

Anyway Monaco would be ace. Think about that beauty in hi-def. Please, please give me Monaco.

I wish they would pick like a countryish/mountainish type area as one city.

just to diversify it from racing around all the cities.

im sick of tokyo in the PGRs and really dont care to race there.

i loved the hill climb courses in Forza. Japanese mountain side tracks have many interesting turns....they should really do those

pgr3... photo mode? :O

force feedback at or near launch :O

sweet news... now, if only we had scans....

just as long as they choose some cities that would make interesting race circuits. Tokyo and NY are pretty but I *hated* the 90d/90d/90d turns tracks in PGR2.

Edinburgh rocked, and washington was good too.

No tuning? WTF!!!
12 Cars - It gets messy fast when there are 8 cars in Forza, even on the Test Ring Oval I cant imagine more. This also all but confirms 30fps. :'(

Is this FF wheel a TFF wheel???? If so woohoo! Im still hoping that the serious driving games will support the DFP.

As soon as we get some informations about PS3 games I'll be there. Contrary to popular belief I'm not completely closed to other systems, for from it in fact.

You can replace background music with your own ripped stuff, I hear.
Of course, but it's also nice to have some original content specially created for the game. MSR's soundtrack was incredible.

if london is indeed returning, i dont want to be racing up and down stairs... that was lame.

i'd LOVE for DC and sydney to return personally.

We Canadians want Toronto, Vancover or Montreal !!

For being the biggest city in Canada, I don't think I've played even one racer that has Toronto in it...

Sounds amazing. 60fps? I'll buy it regardless, but I'd really like it if it was 60fps.

Can you please point out where they mention anything to do with frame rate and how its confirmed to be 30 fps? Just because you wish something to be true, (so you can mock it under a veil of "I want it too, no really," when all you really want is your fave console or rival game to look superior and try not to appear like a fanboy), does'nt make it so.

Yeah I hope they give us some back wood roads to race on this time around.

Rememer the Autumn leaves over the roads as you drove by all the gorgous green farm lands, fenced in cows and barnes? All with with miles and miles of hilly roads to take down before eventually entering a cottage in Need For Speed 3:)

Thats what I'm talking about-they need these environments for PGR3 just to shake things up because I too am getting tired of all the inner city racing. Bring back some of the best of that ofcourse, but trim the fat down so to speak. t thesame time expand on new locations that don't have inner city courses though. And trm down the aggressive a.i. while theyre at it. Single player got really agrivationg later in the game, being spun out by your rivals felt cheap. I realize this only happened in Gold and Platinum runs but it shouldn't be there in the first place. C'mon Bizare, kick my ass here and tweak that a.i.:)
