PGR3 Review Thread

What is incredibly wrong with what he said, so that you need to ignore him? He has the game, and gave both positive and negative aspects. What is the problem?
Judging by the video, his copy is broken. :lol

He gave like 9 things he liked about the game, and 3 or so that he didn't. It's funny how people who havent touched it are blasting him.

He does have a point, 360 should have had a proper wheel solution.

BTW, I did try to use the DFP with PGR3, no luck :'(

Oh I can 'troll' the visuals: When comparing to other games, PGR3 is NOT as sharp. Is it a huge difference? Not really, but its still noticable on the LCD we were playing on, and still slightly dissapointing. Its more or less like having DPII when you have a DTS sound system, if you are an audiophile. 30fps is still 30fps chopfest. I am also not a fan of the blur, night lighting and Nurburgring is just plain weak. Engine noises are no where near as good as the ones they first posted on the website way back when and of course not having a proper TFF wheel is a sorely missed oppertunity.

You're making me want to avoid buying this game Gek

I can't believe people are flaming Gek for giving his honest opinions. Seems people are treating him as the next Tommy Tallarico.

So it's O.K. to kick the shit out of Ridge Racer 6 but the moment someone gives even the slightest of controversal critiques to PGR3 they get thrown on your ignore list?

Pathetic.

I disagree with Gek on alot of his complaints, but he's definitely not a troll. He's probably the most hardcore racing nut here(atleast the most vocal), and so I take that into consideration when reading his posts. I'm totally stoked about PGR3 more than any other game this year, but Gek's "trolls" are fine by me because as others have said, he calls them like he sees them, he harps on minor details because those minor details are important to him. Theres nothing wrong with that.

I'm looking forward to this game because I know it will be a blast. I absolutely adored PGR2 online, and this looks to be even better.

wtf! i just watched the ign pgr3 video review

WORST. REVIEW. EVER.

It was like he read off a PR sheet. said it was like PGR 2.5, 2.75 and said it plays about the same

WTF

He didn't go indepth with the game AT ALL :/

if it's the pinnacle of half sim/half arcade at the moment, then it's worth a ten. until the next one comes along that surpasses it. i just don't understand this argument... are you saying no racing game should ever get a 10?

10 doesn't mean perfect
10 means, in this case, 'genius'

I know it doesn't mean perfect, but if it really doesn't move anything on, add anything new, then it shouldn't get a 10 IMO. a 9 is still a reallyreally good score BTW.

BlimBlim if your reading, can you do me a favour and tell me what they have done to combat wallriders on time attack and in races? I saw on a vid a timer that counts down from 2 seconds when you hit the wall hard, but it`s never been elaborated on how it actually works? Does it slow your car down for that duration of time or does it take that time of at the end of the race/lap?

Thanks

Blimblim, could you do me a favour (out of curiousity) and take a couple of shots of the game - one running in 720p, and another in 480i? Everyone is saying how that the game isn't much of an improvement at 480i so I'd like to see for myself if possible

AFAIK it would be a world exclusive if you did it :D

If you run the game in a 4:3 HDTV, can you put it full screen or do you have to play with black bars? And with a standard TV?

and blim, does it run with lower spec graphics in LIVE mode like part 2 did or does everything look as good as single player mode? Thanks!

What is this SM64?
Look at the trees-
Just textures?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

Invisible plastic boundaries as well..
And some kind of EA trax music to top it off.

How can this game get a perfect score.

gamespot's HD vids are the best ive seen so far.

Yeah. The whole review feels like some last minute hack job. What the hell is wrong with IGN,you don't pull this shit on your subscribers, especialy when its to games on a newly launched console.

I have an honest question here... is the guy driving in the 1up videos the same guy that did the review?

really if any of you videogame sites want to pay me to come in and drive so you don't look weaksauce in your gameplay vids I would be more than happy too :lol

I'm amazed by the reactions to Gek's post--He's not trolling, he's stating his observations. Adding him to your ignore list is pretty fucking foolish, since he only calls them as he sees 'em. Granted, he tends to latch onto minor details at times, but everyone's guilty of that. It amounts to little more than closing your eyes, shutting your ears, and singing Henry VIII at the top of your lungs because you can't stand the fact that some people may have issues with this little gem of a game. He's pointed out perfectly valid areas where he is disappointed with PGR3, if you can't grow up enough to accept someone else's opinion (one that isn't some pathetic passive-aggressive attempt to use some niggling little excuse as a reason to berate the system it's on or the company behind it, like some of the more pathetic members of the forum here, mind you) then you have a bit more growing to do. And I don't just mean hair in unexpected places. :)
Maybe if Gek had the first idea as to WTF he was talking about, I would give a shit. The very idea that the graphics are bad because they are rendered at 30fps with motion blur, coupled with how he complains about the visuals in Every. Single. Thread about the game makes him a troll.

Motion blur is good. It is objectively better than *not* having motion blur, because it works like anti-aliasing, calculating the animation that is taking place between two frames. A game running in high-def at rock solid 30fps with motion blur has not ever been available on the market before, ever.

When people are saying "in before Gek" in every PGR thread, something is going on. What racer is he playing that sets the standard for him? No game currently available has touched what PGR3 has been able to do. I don't care if someone "honestly" dislikes the game, I care about them whining about bullshit in every thread, when they clearly know nothing and are loudly filling up space with non-substantial observations.

His contributions are just not made in good faith. People like that get the ignore list. That's *my* honest opinion.

I have to admit... so far im digging xbox 360 reviews on gamespot alot more than other sites... they're kameo review was pretty good IMO... the IGN review felt like a preview and at the end I was told to read the written review to know more?

I watched the video review so i wouldnt have to read! :lol

signed,

HD video reviews look funny... not funny "ha ha"... but funny "wierd"... maybe cause they move too smooth.

A 9 in graphics? I don't know about that. This is like the best looking game yet released, and one of the best looking X360 upcoming or otherwise games in general.

The commercial struggles to convey that.

Anyone remember the Delfino from PGR2? I don't know why but I just loved the way that car handled.

Hopes Delfino is in this one.

That PGR2 screen brings back so many good memories!

And PGR3 will continue the trend!

Those of you who have the game: impressions on how it controls with the analog stick?

I didn't wanna make the thread into a circle jerk and derail it... not to mention give you a big head. But to sum up: Gek is not a troll and knows his shit, even though he pisses me off a lot. ;)

Hey that was the pic that was first shown of the game...remember the whole viral marketing thingy?

The F360 Challenge Stradale from the viral teaser was replaced by the F430 for the package, it's the same scene though.

(Click for bigger.)

Gek, sorry if I missed something but did you get/win a 360? Judging by your posts it appears you have the game, or at least have played it a bit.

Could you tell me how much an improvement the visuals at 480i are over PGR2? Also, does the motion blur help the framerate any? I was one of those who was greatly disturbed by PGR2's 30fps. If the motion blur in PGR3 doesn't help the stuttering, then I need to know. Wether or not I buy the game hinges on this. Doesn't anybody else feel like some of the media for PGR3 doesn't look much better than PGR2? And then some of it looks incredible. It's almost like theres two versions of the game or something.

Got the chance to play it today and the cock-pit view is awesome. The cities are truly a site to behold and the sense of speed is there. Those pictures of the cars in the white showroom that look blah look great in person and when you get to see these cars in your garage Holy Shit!! Geometry Wars 2 is amazing as hell as well, both 1 & 2 are in the garage to play. Controls felt good I would guess pretty similar to PGR2. It also seems to me that the damage has been toned down from the previous games unless I am missing something.

Does it deserve a 10? I don't know untill I play more of it and get to go online. It is definitely good though and if you liked the previous versions you will no doubt love this one.
