Lol thread backfire.

He's absolutely right in this case. Though perhaps more delicate language should have been used? Meh, don't care.

the mayor is right. if parents don't want to parent, then they better pay up to get the mayor a nice red phone. the person that killed would have been stopped with a simple phone call. the mayor would have the power to summon three powerful heroes to stop HIM.

While technically correct, this is not something you say to parents who've had their children murdered. You can get this message across in a different way.

I don't think that the language needs to be more delicate at all. I'm so tired of politicians talking to everyone like they're a child that always needs to be coddled. These are grown ass people and people that want to act grown and should be talked to as such.

I meant that if he wanted to avoid controversy and headaches he should have said something softer. But I don't care, I'm glad he was blunt.

Lets give the children the childhood they need. From my own experience I was practicallya child until I was 25. Even if I'd been thru the army and to the Uni for several years.

Have to say I have alot of respect for the Mayor reading what he says and watching the youtube video.

Nutter isnt holding any punches and thats why its so "controversial." Today everyone does the hand holding baby crap. If peoplekept the view he has world would be a better place.

Seems right to me, if your kids are out picking fights at night then you are a shit parent.

'journalists' at work, as long as they can get views it doesn't matter how out of context or manipulative or asinine their stories and titles are.

The comments to the news story are funny and this one stands out as totally missing the point.

Unless you (and the mayor) know ALL the facts, your comments are irrelevant. Perhaps the lads told their parents they were going to the convenience store or a movie. As a parent of 16 year olds would you deny them that? I'm certain they would not have told them they were headed for a rumble

The Mayors whole point is as a parent you lay down the law. 10:30 on a school night your ass is in the house regardless of whatever excuses

I like Nutter a lot, he's just been somewhat ineffectual as a mayor. I am hoping that his second term is more fruitful than the first. He needs to renegotiate the public employee contracts and get more favorable terms for the city. He needs to really jump on the DROP program and get it done away with. He needs to do something to reduce business taxes in the city greatly. A lot needs to be done with the school district, and unfortunately the crime rate seems to b trending up in the last year.

That said, he came into office almost at the start of the recession and has really had a bad situation to deal with. He's done some great things. Getting Charles Ramsey as police commissioner, and retaining him when Chicago was trying to pull him away was huge for the city. Ramsey is great. Nutter also spearheaded a change to the zoning laws in Philadelphia that will greatly help development in the city.

I hope he takes City Council to task this term and really gets the rest of his campaign promises done. I am hoping that he will renegotiate the contracts of the public worker unions and eliminate some of the massive waste and spending that goes to them (I am not just talking as someone who is anti-union, there is some serious waste that is not actually even benefitting union members). Those savings need to be directed into more public safety and reduced business taxes.
