photoshop advice needed!

I know a lot of you are pro's with photoshop, so I figured I'd ask here for help first. :)

Anyway, the other day I drew up a logo for someone and scanned it into the pc so I could work on it in photoshop. The problem I'm having is I want to fix up the curved areas so they're nice and smooth and even. The only thing is I'm not quite sure how to do that. I tried using that pen tool but it's not going so well so far (not sure how to use it properly).
Any advice would be great. Even a good tutorial would be awesome if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

p.s.- I'm also looking for neat filters/tools I could use to spruce up my art. Anyone know of some free ones out there?

that dog with an arrow in his head made you think of this didn't it?

when drawing smooth curves, try to adjust only the length of the arms. Keep the arms in line, or else they will make an angle. And you should use illustrator if you are going to do a logo.

edit: also not sure about on pc, but if you hold the pen tool over a point, and hold option, or ctrl..nto sure which, you'll get a unpside down V curser, which you can use to pull the arms out of a point and still have them straight, then without changing the angle of the arms, change only the lenght, to make your curve right.

I'm really sorry, im really bad with describing things.
