Physical Version of Zelda BOTW on Switch 2 contains the Switch 1 cartridge and an upgrade code

CD Project Red has been great with this stuff. It's the same with The Witcher 3 on Switch (1), everything's on the cart.
Oh yeah, they've been really great in that aspect.

Then you have SF6 with a whooping 50gb using about 20% of the Switch 2 internal space

This low from Nintendo. Very disappointed with them. How many will buy these physical copies only later to discover that they receive an outdated cartridge that they already own.
Wait. If you already own the physical game for OG Switch, you literally already own the physical version for Switch 2. Absolutely zero reason to buy it physically for Switch 2, not even for collecting purposes. Quite a bit of money saved.
And this… is somehow a bad thing?

Since the current TotK is the 20 FPS one and you need internet to update it to playable 30, I was hoping for an out-of-the-box 30 fps one and thought the re-release will be just that.

But this is slap in the face. Get fucked, Nintendo.

Also, thanks for creating that thread XXL XXL . Don't know why this forum is full of cretins like B Blitzkrieg! who tell you what to be interested in, but ignore them, they bring nothing to the table anyway. Inevitable retards with laugh reacts coming in 3...2...1:

You retarded ass mother fuckers paying $10 MORE than new for a 10 year old game deserve every bite of the shit sandwich Nintendo stuffs in your face.

It's funny, Nintendo, with the worst online services of them all is the first to completely fuck consumers with a digital only policy. That wasn't on my bingo card.

I'd have expected Sony to be the first tbh. But this shit is on another level of being greedy. Providing nothing that an OG iPhone can't do and charging premium money for it and then go completely online only is crazy.

It is extra disgusting to me that they want money from me so that I can have a better framerate and higher resolution with my Switch 1 versions. I am already paying for the new fucking console to do that. Why do I have to pay extra on top of that? What the fuck is this?

Another 2 "Game Key" games on card

zmvHQsC.jpeg

I won't be buying any of these, so far all I can see is Donkey Kong not having this download bullshit.
No that's 100% bullshit to avoid. But what about Mario Kart? That's not a Game Key is it?

Cyberpunk 2077 UE will have the whole game on the game card it seems.

Resolution and fps looked low tho
DF posted an early analysis at some of the footage from the direct. As low as 540p and down to mid 20s fps, no signs of DLSS. We're in for a rough ride.

On topic: It's incredible that the box just contains the switch 1 version and access to a patch. I can't believe - I mean I can - that they wouldn't sell you just ... a completely new version that already has the upgrades out of the box. The apathy is so strong, it almost reads as antagonistic. It's like they're systematically testing the fences to see how much they can get away with.

Repackaging their old cartridges and selling them to you for more than they did in 2017 is unreal.
That sucks. So it's the same as just keeping my old cart and buying the digital upgrade? I was hoping the next gen versions would be fully offline carts available to purchase at some point. Sigh. Digital hell is coming, even with Nintendo.

they think the lower counts are handheld mode however.

I think for big AAA games we can look at the Steam Deck, add like 10 to 20 percent performance on top, and by that get a decent idea how the games will run on Switch 2 in handheld mode

and they seem to all run at substantially better settings than what the Deck can do in docked mode (Elden Ring manages ~2x the resolution at better perofmance in docked it seems).
so docked performance will probably be 2x to 3x Steam Deck performance.

I assume the idea behind that is that you can sell these to Switch 1 owners already that eventually plan to upgrade.

it's like an Xbox Smart Delivery disc... but worse...

So there is no way to play BOTW Switch 2 version without downloading the upgrade from Nintendo. Even the actual Nintendo Switch 2 game in Switch 2 red box comes with a Switch 1 cartridge.

I'm sorry but I'm modding one of these eventually. Jury didn't deliberate that long

Isn't this that thing that EA and shit did back in the day? To try and persuade people to not buy prepared copies, stick a one use code in the box that people who buy preowned have to pay for to get access to multiplayer etc.

Just this is worse.

I would have rather just have been sold a completely new upgraded version out of the box, regardless of the price.

In theory, 20, 30 years from now if Nintendo's eShop ever got shut down and they moved to something else, the Switch 2 edition of these games will just not exist any more unless they actually re-print a version of the game that includes the upgrades. In that future, we will only have the un-upgraded original switch version. It's just an incredible thought, from a game preservation standpoint.

They created an app with a bunch of new content. Did you even watch the presentation? And your belief that they just flip a few toggles to beef up the graphics is very revealing about your intelligence.

What Microsoft did is exactly what Nintendo is doing here, also for free...

Stupidity Are You Stupid GIF

actually no need to ask....

You Are Dumb Mario Lopez GIF

I didn't know they had hired Scrooge McDuck. What's next, all their employees must bring paper from home so that Nintendo can use it in the gamecases? Eventually we'll see used napkins with "Zelda Breath of the Wild" scribbled on them with crayons? They'll make using controllers wirelessly a NSO feature only? The buttons on the controllers will be dried up candies? Chat will become two cans and a string, that you have to make yourself?

You joke about this, but Nintendo will only give you the privilege of buying their new wireless gamecube controller if you're a subscriber. So you're not too far off actually. Here's hoping for those zelda napkins next.

There is no true physical version for the Switch 2. You have to buy a downloadable update for the game if you want the new visual upgrades and features no matter which version you are owning. You loose the ability to own the game with the update and possible DLCs when Nintendo shuts down the servers. And by now we know that Nintendo has the worst long-term online support for their consoles and handhelds.

Reminder that Microsoft did this same practice with Smart Delivery, yet with no additional charge. The console just… Upgraded the game for you.

No excuse for Nintendo to do this outside of greed, and no one who is a regular consumer should be defending this as a practice, unless your knees are bruised.

They come as free upgrades with online.

It's possible that even the un-updated game will run at 30 FPS out of the box, due to the extra power available in the backwards compatibility mode.

It's basically a different settings config. Looks like it could have been added it but they just wanted use already printed carts.

Did Nintendo prepare any gifts for Switch 2 owners, like free Astrobot on PS5?

Perhaps the GameCube games for subscribers?

I have long since given up counting on the actual rights holders to keep game persevered for the future.

homebrew software and pirated copies will be there so save these games, publishers won't.

Lowkey MS doesn't get enough credit for being 100% the most consumer-friendly of the big 3.

Smart Delivery, Play Anywhere, hell you can put a disc from ANY generation of Xbox into a Series X console and play it. (Obviously not all of them are BC but a big majority of the heavy hitters are).

I REALLY dislike the fat Switch 2 banner on the top. Like, what was wrong with full-cover box art? Why are we cutting 1/5 of the space for a giant red banner?

I wouldn't even call it 1/7th

Plus the image is still quite tall compared to PS5/XBS games due to the shape of the cases.

I like it, makes me feel for the GB with the large GAME BOY taking up the side of the box.

Nintendo's entire business model is selling people the same shit over and over again.
And people buy it like sheep - so it works.
The Switch resold the WiiU library and now they are doing these paid switch 1 game upgrade packs.
>
Nintendo fully went to the dark side when they locked in HD remasters like FZero GX to a sub service only with no way to buy the game individually.

I cant help but comparing this to taking Xbox discs I bought all the way back to 2001 and using them in the SX - complete with upgrades.

…and nobody bought the console, and now they are basically defunct in the hardware business. Maybe a lesson to be learned there.

Ninty seem to be absolutely dead-set on doing the absolute minimum for the absolute maximum dollar amount possible for the switch 2.

And for that, it's a big "FUCK NINTENDO" from me.

If I go out of my way to buy a physical copy for Switch 2, the very least they could do is put the upgrade on the cart.

I just can't get excited about Switch 2 no matter how hard I try. Nintendo is completely off the rails from the success of Switch. I thought they were pretty cool during that gen but now they are showing their true face and the greed and disgusting anti consumer practices are just downright evil.

Not what I replied about.

You wrote:

And the answer is… zero, 'cuz the fact that it's literally the same cart is out right now for those who were thinking about rebuying it for some reason?
And yeah, it really doesn't matter which version you are owning, because, as you wrote yourself, there is no true Switch 2 version. There is only one version of the game.

So it goes like this:
1) you don't already own the game? Cool, you buy it and get it upgraded to run better on Switch 2.
2) you own the game already? Cool, you already have all you need, just get the upgrade.

As for losing some content in the future, how is this different from what happens with potentially every other game on any platform?
And no, Nintendo isn't special about this. Games have been delisted, servers have been shut down on all platforms. No reason to make this some egregiously nasty, anti-consumer move by Nintendo when it's not exclusive to them, nor the worst thing they've done.
