I've only enjoyed the 1st 2 movies, but this so far has me very interested.

3 was bad because it suffered from the classic "3rd installment shot at the same time as 2nd" and they put all the best part in the second one.

4 was just uninspired and bland.

This is a soft reboot with new leads.

It's gonna be great. :D

Depp is gonna die at the end of this new "trilogy" or whatever this ends up being.

The Salazar hair is the worst effect I've seen in the past decade.

But it's probably unfinished.

I'm not worried.

Yeah,
problem with 4 though was basically it was set up as a cheaper budgeted sequel yet is one of the most expensive movies ever.
I honestly can't believe it cost more than 3.

1 full ship that had actual use, no ridiculous CG battles, no ridiculous locations, majority of the previous cast was out...
shocking.

This looks like a return of the grand scale of the previous movies which for what it is and as bad as 3 was,
Is a very unique and fun theater experience.

Thing is, as much as his movies aren't really critical darlings, Gore is one hell of a director.
The guy from the fourth... better not to talk about him.

hmm...

The guys who are directing this one was Nominated for Best Foreign Film..

Well at least its a step up in quaility than 4.

And they'll bring him back if the reboot doesn't work.

Wasn't sure how I felt about the new guy they're playing up to be the new lead, but going by the little comedic moment at the end of the trailer, he could work. A too proper and naive young kid who's too proper and naive for a pirate's life, but not in a stoic Orlando bloom way.

I rarely have this kind of vibe with new actors, but this new kid and that girl give me GREAT vibes.

I think they will be strong enough to allow this to move away from Depp. Probably not in the first movie as they have to be set up, but eventually.

From Dishonored to Pirates of the Caribbean, The Drunken Sailor slowed down continues to be haunting

"Final" adventure.

Yeah okay.gif

Can we stop with this ?

The last one was SIX YEARS AGO.

And notice that there is virtually no alternative for cool adventure / pirates movies. So this is welcome.

Plus given Depp's age, he most likely will "die" or get cursed (written off) soon.

that being said he is ruined because of his divorce so he might try to grind that till it burns. :p

Bloom's complete lack of presence in every trailer bar that 1/2 second in the Superbowl(?) trailer makes me assume he only appears towards the end. Probably to set up the actual finale (sequel).

I wouldn't be surprised if he's a last minute deus ex machina to save the day. Jack and co are out of options and cornered by Salazar and then the Dutchman explodes up out of the sea or some shit.

Isn't he involved in that five-parter Harry Potter spinoff though

I hate the trope of a young version of a character dressing exactly like they do when they're older.

This movie might be ok, trailer wasn't awful.

While not a pirate tale, I sure wouldn't mind another historically based nautical film along the lines of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World . There's still a lot to mine from the Aubrey–Maturin series after-all if not just from history.

In The Heart of the Sea isn't too bad. Perhaps not exactly what you're after, though.

Sadly we only got the one movie, and I doubt we're ever getting another.

Also I really hope anyone who is lamenting the lack of other options for cool Pirate media has been watching Black Sails. That is some of the best piratey stuff around.

I still need to see On Stranger Tides...

I wonder if it is on Canadian Netflix... I don't have a sub atm, but will resub soon for Iron Fist.

I think most are really down on it, but I watched it semi-recently and actually kind of enjoyed it, far moreso than the third film for sure. Brain will hurt at some of the hokey dialogue and narrative conveniences, but it was an exciting action movie with great stunts and gorgeous imagery.

Looks worse every new thing that comes out for it.

Guess these things have just passed me by, but wasn't the 2nd and 3rd movie basically Zombies anyway? And, come to think of it, the 1st movie?

Looks even better than the fourth one.

I'm in for the fifth time. Hopefully the new characters get some cool scenes so the movie doesn't completely rely on Jack.

This is one of my favorite disney franchises because it's not afraid to play with alcohol, violence and innuendo, and in fact always manages to make decent gags out of them.

Looking pretty good.

I wonder if they're fucking around with Depps appearance for the whole movie and not just the flashback cus he hasn't looked that young and thin in years.

Based on that trailer the film doesn't contain a single original idea. Even all the new characters are just lesser versions of old characters.

Looks far better than the fourth, but it looks like they aren't ignoring that one since the Black Pearl is still in the bottle.

The one thing I truly hate is Barbossa's lame-ification. A powdered wig and a naval uniform are nothing to his pirate outfit from the first movie.

That looks pretty dope, seems like it will be a fun time in theaters. Huge step up visually over the last piece of crap too.

Man you forget how good that theme from Zimmer is until you hear it again.

The movies all follow a very basic formula. A ghoulish captain from Sparrow's past chases him across the seas. This one at least looks more colourful than the last couple of films.

I'm hoping for the best, though after On Stranger Tides has me a little iffy. This looks to be going for Curse of the Black Pearl in terms of look and feel, I find.

Quite the summer ahead.

Love these movies, even the last one which was the worst had moments.
And I mark out for that theme like very few others
