Mermaids I agree, Blackbeard's worked but I also recall them saying it was a remix or reverse of a previous theme.

Edit: nvm, found that interview. Its one of the few originals.

I hope the new one has some unique and memorable themes.

Finally watched the new trailer. Looks like ship battles are back!

Looks great!

I'm a sucker for anything PotC though.. I think I was 22 or 23 when the first one came out and just blew me away. I wanted everything Pirates.. Got heavily into drinking rum (still am..).

Love the soundtracks as well.

Wasn't a huge fan of 4, but have been drunk enough the few times I saw it to still enjoy it.

Really excited for this one though!

Are they still trying to top the first one? Cause the first one is actually still the best one...

recently rewatched 2 and 3 and they are ok, but nothing special...

4 was....yeah cashgrab i guess.. 5 looks ok atleast we will see :)

Yes, the goal of this film is said to be to evoke the feel and style of the first film.

Sadly, it can't. They've turned Jack from a mysterious rogue into a joke.

Him having connections to every villain is the problem. Barbossa was fine, but he needs to be someone who stumbles into shit rather than someone who started villains on the road to supervillainy.

According to my Facebook, the brother of a guy I went to high school with plays Young Jack Sparrow. They put him in make-up and then CGI'd him to look (more) like Depp. At least, that's what I'm getting from the context of the conversation going on there. I can post the (names redacted) conversation for anyone that wants it.

Two separate gaffers are connected to young Jack? How funny. But yeah let's hear some details!

It's nothing too exciting, but he just mentions that he looked great without the CGI, but for some reason Disney went and CGI'd him all up.

I still have to watch the 4th one, but man alive, nothing was better than that first film. That was magical, as soon as I saw this I knew I was in for a treat.

So lazy he only dumps one bucket of water
Pays respect to the dead
And then proceeds to make the most amazing entrance to a port in cinematic history.

I started watching the 4th but never got past the first 20 minutes or so. I recently watched the first two again and the first is still the best of course.

I'll have to watch the 3rd again as I don't remember anything from it and will try to watch the 4th someday.

Is Gibbs not back or did I overlook him?

One of the best entrances of all time.

Can't possibly imagine a better intro for a character like Jack. He's making shit up as he goes along and still manages to make it look all to plan.

Gibbs is back as are some other crew members.

There's an alternate version of the trailer on Disney.com, you can all see them there.

I absolutely love the first three films and agree with you: Zimmer did something special on DMC and AWE. The fourth one unfortunately disappointed me on every level, I hoped that they would just ignore it but apparently the Black Pearl ist still in the bottle at the beginning of DMTNT.

I will forever stand by Pirates 2 being just as good as the first. I love that movie.

The third had a lot of issues but was still enjoyable enough. The fourth was forgettable but I've only seen it once.

I enjoyed DMC far more than 1,
I saw it 3 or 4 times in the theater.

It was such a fun theater experience.

Man that trailer got me more hyped than I thought i'd get for this.
Guess seeing the pure over the topness has reminded me that really we don't get much like it out there.

End of Lone Ranger nearly 4 years ago was the only thing close to satisfying it.

Forgot to reply to this earlier, but thanks for the info. The original DVDs had some fairly thorough behind the scenes type of stuff. Maybe we'll eventually see the extent of the alterations they did for young Jack there.

Marty is back as well as some dude from the last movie. No Cotton, Cotton's parrot, Pintel or Ragetti. :(

Man I miss Cotton. Always fucking squinting.

You know Disney loves their crossovers and such so much,
It would be kinda cool if they had worked Captain Hook into the Pirate Court in 3 somehow.

or I wouldn't mind if live action Little Mermaid was in the POTC universe,
lol
