Or at least that's where the tech support people sound like they're from.
Long story short, got a cable modem running to a current model Linksys wireless 11b router. There are three devices recieving from the router. A PC with a Motorolla 54G card, which works just fine. An Xbox with a Linksys Wire Game Adaptor (WGA11B) which also works just fine. And finally, my PC with a Linksys 54G card, which is pissing me off.
The problem is that my Linksys 54G card seems to have trouble holding a 11mb connection. I get frequent, abrupt, drops to 5.5 and lower. These drops are usually very short, but they seem to be enough to totally fuck up my UT2K4 match for 2-3 seconds at a time. For perspective's sake, I will mention that until last week, my PC was using the WGA11B, and I was tooling around in the UT2K4 demo. I recieved no lag or skipping of any kind with this setup. Also, I played Burnout 3 on Live a few nights ago and it was also flawless.
I have already called Linksys once about this problem. What they had me do was switch the router to a different channel, but that hasn't helped. One thing I must mention is that my PC is about eight feet and two walls from the router, plus it is in a corner, right next to the walls. However, if the walls were the problem, why does the WGA11B work so well?
Tonight I will put my PC in the same room as the router and check how that works. I also plan to bitch at Linksys some more, though I am truely sick of calling them. Until then, does anyone have any helpful ideas?
