First Toy story made $29,140,617 on it's opening weekend (which didn't cover production costs). Subsequent sequels made exponentially more and more (Toy Story 4 made $120,908,065 opening weekend). Maybe not naming it Toy Story: Light Year ended up costing the movie several millions in opening weekend revenue?

I saw it .. it was okay but not great..

one of the big issue I have is they should have took the time and made a little sequence of Andy leaving the movie theater.. yet we just got a stupid little text at the beginning.

The marketing was way off on explaining that it’s the movie Andy saw. Not that there was a real light year.

Including the words Toy Story in the title I do think would’ve upped the box office returns. Agree with others that could see how it would be confusing what this movie was going for.

Disagree with any moral compass decisions being involved with it disappointing. Don’t think there are enough loons out there to have that type of impact. But you never know!

Loons? I don’t think you know who the real loons are. Disney is so hard core into propaganda it’s sad.

Btw ms marvel is also flopping. Could be a coincidence but I doubt it.

You mean like originally cutting a kiss out of this movie because it had nothing to do with the plot and would get the movie banned from certain countries, only to add it back in to publicly pander and apologize to an angry mob?
I was wondering about the Ms Marvel comment he made about it flopping too. I was wondering Is he just saying that based off some crazy youtuber who makes ridiculous claims or is he just making it up? Is Ms Marvel actually doing good that's what I'm wondering?

I don't like Disney agenda pushing but man the anti woke side can be as annoying

The trailers make me feel the other way around than intended - feels like NASA created an astronaut image based on a toy for kids... Toy Story happens in a fairly primitive times, while Loghtyear seems to be going on like at least 50 years later. The entire concept is really cool, we were suppose to get to know the story behind the toy, but the time periods that sets apart those two series just screws up that entire concept.

$50m seems like a decent opening even if it's underperforming.

We get the real answer next week when we see how much of a drop it will have. The $50 mil opening could have simply been due to name recognition without knowing anything else about the movie.

I could give two shits about Tim Allen or there being a same-sex kiss, Buzz is always just a dork meant for comic relief. The only good thing to come of the character or his parody sci fi universe is the ride at Disneyland. If the kid sees this on Disney+ I’ll allow it but I’m not interested otherwise

This movie is supposedly the 90s film that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear action figure, IIRC? And it has almost little to nothing to do with Buzz LIghtyear. Its a rather bland, boring, and uninspired work that feels like it was nothing about Buzz, but they forced him in it for name recognition.

If you enjoy Buzz LIghtyear, just go back the cartoon series. Its infinitely better, with stronger writing, memorable characters, and actual heart.

Pixar is hit or miss for me. They tend to follow a formula. I'm either going to love or hate their movie. Hope I love the movie when I see it

I knew that it is a "Spin off" so to speak, that it is not really Toy Story.

For me, what killed the movie is with all the respect it deserves, the inclusion of the Gay kiss and the Easter eggs of the LGBT movement.

I'd imagine It's because of the recent push back against Disney at the moment.

Quite a few parents have some distrust towards Disney because they don't inherently trust the company anymore to provide moral values that are accepted by all compared back then.

You were right, Disney is no longer like before... this SWJ nonsense is killing it... Besides, Pixar doesn't come out of the same sequence of scripts.

I used to see Disney as a high-quality company, now everything they do from Star Wars to movies or series... is lowering my expectations little by little.

I still enjoy the Disney movies of the 40's until 2000

There is nothing morally wrong about having LGBT stories in a Disney film.

The issue, at least when it comes to Lightyear, is that it doesn’t feel like it even belongs. Each moment it is referenced on screen and the “Easter eggs” all feel like forced inclusions. They add nothing to the plot, nothing to the characters, and feel wholly out of place with the tone and nature of the narrative.

That doesn't bother me as much. But if i find out a film/show is Anti Male and really blatant about its feminism I tend to skip watching it. Black Widow is a recent example of this. I pirated it and didn't give them a dime

Well that's most companies though. Same thing is happening to WB. I think Disney and WB will be dead in 5 to 10 years

As for Star Wars Disney had a license to print money with that franchise and they just killed it with the constant man hating woke stuff. Especially when Star Wars as a franchise is for boys.

I just got back from watching it with my son.

It's a solid 8/10 animated film and I actually liked it more than most Pixar movies.

The marriage/kiss is innocuous – it's the child that comes from their relationship that had me scratching my head, and it led to an interesting conversation with my kid afterwards.

I'm going to say that I respect the inclusion of LGBT-type issues... But putting it in a children's movie?

I think it shouldn't be like that.

Putting it into movie for adults or rated +18 would be fine... but not in a children movie.

It's a "why though?" movie. Toy story is a moviw about toys coming alive. That's the draw. What's the draw here?

I fail to see it, so I have no interest. Buzz on his own is not aninteresting enough character for me to take a chance on.

Speaking of which... I've always had the idea that WB has had a lot of envy and frustration for the great success that Disney has had... even in the golden days of WB... that's why they made so many parodies against Disney , either in Tiny toons or Animaniacs.

Im sure the kiss offended some people in middle east but its not whats wrong witht he movie. Its just not a great movie. not bad but nothing special.... and the bigger issue was its wasnt marketed corrected. People do not know where it fits in the toy story universe.
As its the movie andy saw it makes perfect sense that buzz has a different voice.

But yeah disney let its film and tv studios run wild with injecting sexual preference into kids cartoons. its not "dont say gay" its "dont talk about sex at all to my 1 - 12 year old" and parents will vote with their wallets
