Planning trip to E3 2005, need best hotels near the expo.

Alright, it's planning time, and I need a little help planning this stuff.
Could some of you tell me the best hotels in the area, not too far from the expo? I'm planning this early, this way I won't be sleeping in a cheezy motel.

thanks.

LA convention center website

Don't know any specific hotels to recommend - just try and get one close by. If you wait a little longer, the E3 website has an accommodation section.

I know that the times I've gone to LA for E3 we stayed in Santa Monica. I can recommend that, as its a nice relaxing place to stay, and good for quiet evenings out.

Sofitel Beverly Hills is v good.

Great location, shopping, food, etc all across the road, (Beverly Center) safe and populated at night. Nice enough area.

Right, I really wanna go. I'll pay whatever it takes, it'd be an awesome holiday. I could watch Star Wars Episode III with an American audience, which I hear are a lot more enthusiastic than UK audiences too. I don't work for anyone though. What are my chances?

As it turns out, the promoters of E3 are making it tougher to get in this year. You will need a pulse.

Just apply online and put either your real job in, or make a position up. Doesn't really matter, just remember it'll be printed on your badge.

As long as you are over 18 you should be fine. Next time I go (if I go again, don't work in games anymore) I'd like to take some time out for a vacation. Good location for it - San Francisco is just a car rental drive away too.

If you're willing to taxi you can save yourself a shit ton of money by staying at the best western.

If your gonna have transportation I'd stay outside of downtown LA. I always stay in Hollywood, it's more entertaining and if your lucky there might be some big movie premeir going on which is always cool.

Or even if you don't have transportation, you can easily take the L.A. subway from Hollywood to the stop near Staples Center, which is right next to the Convention Center.

Just check and see how close your hotel is to a subway station. Yes, L.A. actually does have a subway and one of the few routes it covers well is Hollywood to downtown L.A.

Here's a map. Pico on the blue line is the E3 stop:

"best" would be long gone by now. Back in day when I went you had few months to get top 3 hotels for next year after a E3. Now, dang dont ask me but industry gotten better so must be worse.

Doesn't Star Wars Episode 3 come out on the 19th, same week as E3?

I second this.

There's a hyatt in downtown la that's supposed to be good. There's always a cab around and you'd be just across the street from a subway terminal. There's a small mall in the building too.

Figueroa is hip, reasonable (if kinda oldschool) and has a good bar and is absolutely the closest. After that, Sunset is a good bet - Mondrian, Chateau Marmont and all that. Check which hotels are on the free E3 shuttle route.

Stillwell, man! Represent! Heyy-ohhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Stillwell is cheap cheap cheap, and not TOO bad. Not able to get a room online, but I called a reservation in on New Years Day. Fun times!

You will not be able to find a hotel room close to the convention center unless you are very, very lucky.

Although you might be able to book one now for E3 2006...

Could some give me an 'average' figure of how much it would cost in canadian.

Round Trip, Hotel, Food Etc...

Maybe Bish could help us.

Media registration came thru -- I'm E3 2k5 bound.

Anyways, the housing section also opened up today on the E3Expo website. I'm staying at the Ritz Milner 3 blocks from the convention center. There were still rooms available there as of ~6PM. ($99/night, single - $114/night, double)

Yeah, it's a difficult one. Wait until you get back or have to put up with "whooping".

I have a semi-related question: My dad owns his own Art business and he was interested in going and taking me with him. He figures if he puts on the application that he is an artist and would like to visit for artistic reasons he might be able to get in. If he were to get accepted to go, how would he add me to the form to go as well? He printed and filled out the E3 Attendee form, however we are not exactly sure how he would add that I would be going with him representing his company; and what about adding the cost for both me and him? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
