It's just some internal prototype demo/vertical slice. Nothing representative of the final or full game which doesn't even exist at this point.
Still it's unfortunate that developers at Insomniac have to see their work exposed like this. Security must be taken seriously.
Just a reminder as someone who works in Cybersecurity there's plenty of mitigation alone in least privilege and separation of duties in terms of access control but companies just don't take it seriously until there's an incident like this. Also, don't get into cyber if you don't want a sense of paranoia or anxiety

It does incentivize the hackers to do it to other companies, but they're going to do it anyway. That's not really Sonys problem.
They could also pay the ransom and the hacker group still leak everything, there is simply no upside to paying tbh

Other companies have paid these ransoms. There's absolutely no incentive for the hackers to lie and leak anyway.

I don't think companies pay them in general because the feds tell them not to, but I bet every single company that has dealt with this has thought that they should have just paid.
As crazy as it might sound, sometimes it is better to pay the ransom. People probably have the instant reflex of thinking, "Do not negotiate with terrorists!" but in certain cases, it's the better solution.

Not in this one though. They had data but it's not like they stole it and Insomniac didn't have a backup copy. If this were the case and they risked losing millions of dollars worth of data, then yeah, paying might have been advisable. In this scenario, it was sensitive information and Sony likely didn't know exactly what they had so they said fuck no.

I know next to nothing about video game development, but aren't the controls/tightness of the gameplay usually one of the first thing to be 'finished' in an alpha build whereas graphics and other visual anomalies are usually polished last? Because if that were the case, this looks very clunky.

All these groups stick by their word in 99% of cases in the past, their word is their bond and how they continually extract money from companies after extracting information.

This is Sony so they went the publicity route, but they reach out to companies continually who pay up it's pretty well documented out there and of those groups who have the best track record of sticking to their word.

If the groups where ever known to release the information they would never get paid again. This is way more common than people realise.

Over a decade ago another kind of Wolverine leaked, I still have it on avi on my server since was interesting look at unfinished moves which are very hard to come by in that state.

What's with the "feels gross" comments, are we resetera now lmao? As a consumer it would be cool to see the WIP footage, same as when the GTA VI build leaked

Fucking sucks because of the spoilers. I watched a 2 min gameplay and that was enough. Game is gonna be just as i imagined and im happy. Now to wait 3 more years.

Clearly going to launch on PC day one. Otherwise nixxes would've been porting it.

Told you all that this was the end game. And not just for gaas games.

Also lol at the whole thing. They got greedy and paid for it. Karma is a bitch.

after watching that video i feel this game needs a slow down as combat like that in small interior locations is a mess, no reason for him to be super zoomy everywhere

People really excited to play a game 20% into its development, man, some people really wanna be pro bono game testers.

This shit is just so funny to me. Do these devs not understand that this is all we need to see?

Not the Spiderman 2 demo that was like 8 minutes long. Just show me a minute or two of actual gameplay from the least spoiler heavy section of the game, the end.

Makes me wonder if Sony regrets not paying the hackers. There was so much information that they stole, and actual source code and playable game. I'm curious if they regret their decision.

This remind me of the infamous Half-Life 2 code leak. Rememeber that the game was delayed more than 1 years because of that, no complaint if Wolverine will be pushed back heavly because of this leak. Really suck as a situation, people that are cheering because wanted to see couple of half hassed animations and gameplay set pieces in a game that basically everyone already know how would have been because how the hell would have it been if not as a third person action are the worst. And the same that will complain when the relase internal date will be pushed back.

I wouldn't say that. It's very likely they start working on the PC build early on and then Nixxes jump in at some point. They're both internal Sony studios now so they probably start working hand-in-hand early into the development to allow for a smoother transition for the PC port.

Don't think day and date on PC is coming as long as PS consoles exist, which honestly probably isn't for that much longer.

I bet sony regrets doing pc ports now. This will cost them big time.
Console exclusives -or even mobile only games- are developed and tested in PCs too, so they make fully playable PC builds like the leaked ones.

It has nothing to do with Sony making pc ports.
