PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

It's sad this thread has turned into talking about crates, skins and patch notes. It used to be full of great gifs, videos and stories.

The first few weeks of a MP game are always the best. :(

Heres some videos then :p

Fun bug on the test realm

One shot left and need revenge for my team

Roadkilling a guy who just landed with a chute

Noscope footshot

Edit:

I find that a pretty absurd thing to say when they've made far more than enough to do that several times over without the need for any sort of microtransactions already. They don't need more money to be able to afford to support the game.

You do know that the more copies they sell the more their costs go up right? Also its not a charity, the more money they make the longer they can keep the development of the game going, or they can fund another game. They are not suddenly gonna stop wanting to make money....

yeah, servers for almost half a million people playing concurrently at any time are completely free to run, i heard.
How is needing to buy the game screenshots are advertising in any way even slightly similar to those screenshots advertising that game with something that needs an additional fee (ontop of buying the game) despite no mention of that at all?
No need for the additional fee at all. You can just steal those clothes from people you kill in game and use it during that match. And you can sell your crates for steam money, and then use that money to get items you want.

If the game wasn't one of the most successful games on Steam at this time and they weren't still making huge amounts of money off of game sales alone or it was free, then that would be a valid reason for microtransactions.

I'm alright with crate & key for cosmetics but damn the drop rates for anything worthwhile are pretty abysmal.

for 2.50 + huge amounts of in game BP you should get a lot more than orange shirts repeatedly.

Being one of the most sucessful games on Steam doesn't decrease the server costs, it increases them.

That doesn't change that they've likely made an insane amount of profit. If the amount of money they've made from game sales alone couldn't cover the cost of providing the game, then what would be the point in them even doing it? Even if there weren't suddenly microtransactions they'd still have the servers running and be able to support the game to the same extent they were planning to. They aren't needed, certainly not at this stage.

Not necessarily suddenly needing servers for 500k concurrent players is pretty different from needing servers for 50-100k the prices goes up pretty rapidly especially with maintenance and all of that. And what makes you think the micro transactions where planned as a source of money to keep everything running beforehand?

Still its pretty moot if they need it or not. The game exists to make money and to fund further development of PUBG or new games and future games are not guaranteed to make any money at all so you make sure you make money when you can.

Also wanna point out that the current crate key sales are going toward the prizepool of the upcoming PUBG tournament.

Yeah they should only start introducing it when they are literally running out of money, that will end up nicely that's for sure.

All this crying about optional cosmetics(that you can even steal and use during a match) is extremely amusing. Hell you can even make money yourself just by selling the crates you get for free, and can use that money to pick up the items you want directly from the market. It's by far the best system there is.

Part of it is also going to charity.

I'd like good servers as much as any, but just bringing up money isn't enough. Whatever their plans to handle that, they need time and manpower to do anything. Just because they sold millions doesn't immediately mean they have the money ready to invest in other places, and most of all it doesn't mean servers pop up as soon as money appears on an account. Give them some time with their early access game, damn.

I do, unless it's a free game i don't see any place for microtransactions.

Of course as the player number goes up the cost of running a server is going to increase, but it's not as if they're having to run those servers with the same amount of funds. I don't know what you mean about keeping things running beforehand but Microtransactions were said to be something they'd only add after it left early access.

Obviously games are there to make money, but that can be done without doing it in a way that is just greedy, which is unfortunately how most microtranasctions are done. The way PUBG does them at the moment isn't too bad, but i still don't think it's a good thing they've been added at this stage with items used to advertise the game being limited to microtransactions.

Seems you live in a fantasy land where service games that are supposed be in constant development with constant new cosmetics, new content, new weapons, free DLC, half a million people playing at the very least at any time, is supposed to be funded on wishes and unicorn farts.

If "earning over $1 million USD a day on average over the last month even after Valve takes their cut" is considered "wishes and unicorn farts" then sign me up for some.

Lol, had bp for a couple crates.

Opened first one, charcoal tank top. What was my character wearing already? A charcoal tank top.

Opened second one, white combat pants. What was my character wearing already? White combat pants.

Probably best to just sell all the crates and then buy individual items that I would like to have.

Just sell the crates imo. The Gamescom crate is going for ~$3.30, the Survivor crate for ~$3.00, and the Wanderer crate for ~$1.65 each.

Edit: Just noticed blue hi-top trainers are going for $11

Just discovered I haven't ourchased anything on Steam in over a year, and now I can't use the marketplace. Guess I'm not selling my crates.

Now try and use that money over a decade of constant development and server costs and will see how long you last.

Regarding loot.

Strike while the iron is hot, plans probably changed when their player count EXPLODED beyond anything they could have envisioned (do you think they went into this thinking - "yep, this will have the highest ever concurrent player count ever on Steam by month 5 of early access". They can actually retain these earnings for later, and not spend it all on lambos.

I would love to see what their projections in terms of sales and player counts were to their initial investors / management, and compare it to what actually happened. If you don't change your plans when things change, then your plan will suck.

I don't care if they wanna make money with the crates or the tournament, esports, bla bla.

The game is worse than it's ever been right now, it's really unplayable (yes even after the 400mb patch).

It depends how much the servers costs are and how popular the game remains. If it stays popular for a decade yet very few people buy it, that would be highly unusual.

Can I reconnect to a game now if I crash, or is it only if the game disconnects? Because I never disconnect, but the game crashes on me constantly. If I play maybe 5-6 games in a night, 3-4 of them will crash.

just tried the first person mode - it's great. I can finally use my spatial awareness without having invisible enemies spot me.

Anyone else getting terrible performance with the new patch? Stuttering and lag it seems everywhere.

For the record I'm running a 1080 with a i7 6700 and 16gb ram.

Yes. It's a known problem, likely relating to being able to reconnect to a match on disconnect.

At least it's being worked on. My last game was so laggy I couldn't hop between crates in Georgopol, and then got disconnected shortly after with the "Network lag detected."

Still getting 60-80 fps however!
