Servers are fucking trash currently.
Enemy was 2 meters away from me, I blast him with UZI 25 times (full clip), every shot hit, but somehow he turns around and one shots me. HOW?!?

I only got 4 hit points from that. Full UZI clip and 4 hit points? C'mon now.

Does anyone play this without headphones and just using speakers? I hate wearing headphones and have a 5.1 surroudn system. Trying to decide if that would be decent of not.
I usually play without headphones, and it's a HUGE disadvantage.

Played a game of FPP duos, dropped into Gatka, and for some reason like three other teams dropped in. We got eight kills in maybe five minutes and decided to shack up there after another team rolled in and delivered us decent gear. As the game area closed it confined to center on our area. The building we camped out was safe all the way to the second to last close in, right before the final killing field just south of it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say how FPP has changed the experience for me. Seven players remained for the final battle, and when everyone went prone in that tiny area it was still impossible to see anyone. It came down to me vs a duo, and despite knowing the approximate location of one another we were missing with nades, and it was a standoff with nobody firing shots. It was so intense laying in the brush trying to scope them out, and I felt like I was just as concealed from their view as they were from mine. I finally saw one of them, had him dead in my sights, and got shot as my guy sighted up.

I'm pretty sure an encounter like that doesn't happen with third person enabled.

That's what I'm afraid of.. I have 7.1 headphones, but hate wearing them..
Yea I have 2 crazy kids and a wife I need to keep an ear out for lol. After they go to bed I throw the headphones on and its night and day difference. Really helps you appreciate how great the sound in this game is.

Chicken Dinner with my wifey in FPP duos!

A funny gif from the game:

Got a 1pp solo dinner, and I think I might prefer it to 3pp. Feels way more isolated.

This game just pushed me to get a headset (HyperX Cloud II) and it's a game-changer after just speakers. Also nice to not have to play with my system blaring so that I could hear footsteps!

All those chicken dinner posts make me sad. I have something like 40 hours on the clock and the best I got was second a few times.

Wait, the game can be FPS?

Think Im going to drop the bone to play this, but theres a lot of negativity in this thread haha.

Despite the negativity everybody can't stop playing it.

Just purchased it, Im excited. Hoping it doesnt end up like the others (Day Z, H1Z1, etc). Do I need to download the Test Server, or can I prioritize the PUBG game first?

Don't expect to win often if at all. Sometimes I play without headphones just because, and it never ends spectacularly.

If you don't want to test patches before they roll them out you can cancel the download for the Test Server.

Whatever happened to DayZ? I thought the guy who made the original mod was doing a standalone

IDK but it was all the rage and then it seems like something happened to the development. Im hesitant to have bought this in case it makes a terrible turn or doesnt make it out of pre alpha or something.

Its weird to me that this genre has been tried before and then copycats came but then they all just drop off the radar.

DayZ is on Steam Early Access since 2013 and I think it hit Beta earlier this year iirc. Dean Hall, the lead and guy behind the mod, left to start his own studio. His new game, Ion, was canceled earlier this year.

I think I like playing FPP more than third person in this game. It's way more intense and, in some ways, just feels better. I might just play this mode exclusively from now on.

I've only owned this a week and feel I've gotten my money's worth, and am enthralled to think it's only going to get much better. If it was more than $29.99 I'd hesitate, but at that price, nah.

Good to hear.

I love round based games and slow games. Just a completely superior rush to games where you're running around the map.

I havent played a PC shooter since like Halo CE

An audio trick that some might like to use (I've used it in CSGO) is using your audio card/motherboard/software (such as Razer) to "normalize" the audio feed.

What this does is it balances the quiet and loud sounds into a closer range and makes soft footsteps wayyy louder. It has saved my butt when my squad said they couldn't hear anything.

Got tagged again in the final 3 by a guy lucky enough to be in the boundaries. 3rd place.

Quite a shake I got once those hits got me. Got tagged too much as it was so I was too easy.

Holy tits what a thrill.

No updates since? So it's just stuck in development hell?

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
For those of you who also defy common sense on occasion, just know you should only click the 'OK' button for character re-customization once.

What are people doing with the gamescom crates? I sold my first one for about 5 bucks. Is there a school of thought that paying $2.50 and opening them is worth it due to the high-value items inside you could get and flip for hundreds of dollars? Are people stockpiling them to sell later?

So if you click OK a whole bunch of times can you underflow and get billions of BP and buy 10000 chests and become Steam rich forever?

...I mean I've already gone this far, I may as well keep going for science.

*edit*

Nevermind, I can't. Apparently you have to have enough BP to be able to do the customization in the first place. At least I can add that to a bug report now.

I figured as much, still might be a good exploit can someone click the mouse fast enough and the servers be laggy enough.

Nothing ever happened to it. That's what happened.

It laid stagnant for years with no significant changes, no major bug fixes, etc.

That's why people were a bit upset when PUBG folks started talking about keys/crates and not major bug fixes or content creation.

My take away as well. When moving is more blind than ever you don't want to move.

And a lot of streamers are playing FPP now because it's new and because they've just spent three months bitching about third person peaking so they'd better try it. Whether it sticks remains to be seen.
Yep. People just hole on one place and see if anyone is coming by. No wants to be out in the open anymore.
Camping isn't really as viable in 1PP. You'll always be spotted first as a camper, and if you're camping inside a house you're trapped. You have no advantage at all.

And I haven't lost a fight vs. a camper in 1PP so far. :p
Categorically false. It's more viable, if anything. You always have the advantage as a camper.

Its not gonna be decent, headphones are kinda only way to play it.

I'm using a pretty good 2.1 system(Swan M50) with an Asus Xonar Essence sound card and I have no issues with sound or direction of gunshots, hearing footsteps etc. and I've won around 10 solo games. I use sound normalization to balance the sounds though.

I do have some good headphones(Sennheiser HD650) so I probably should give them a try. Just given the amount of time I put into this game, I don't want to expose my eardrums to prolonged gunfire etc.

As above, I use it and it was a game-changer for me. Makes footsteps super-clear.

Bohemia Interactive(Arma 3) are still working on DayZ, it's been in "Early Access" for 3.5 years now...

Is this as simple as changing some quick settings? I'm interested in trying this out to see how much of a difference it makes.

edit: A quick google shows going into the sound options on the system tray and enabling "Loudness Equalization" under enhancements. Would this work?

Enjoy that first time feeling of jumping out of the plane knowing you can go anywhere you look, rummage inside any building you see and, oh yea, there are 99 other people out there that want to kill you.

Yup should be the same. I think it's called that inside of Realtek audio

Sorry if it has been asked before but do we know the exact drop % for each category of loot (colors) in both the Wanderer and Survivor crates?

Jumped on board with this game. Having a lot of fun, hope some of my friends pick it up too.

But good god damn it is difficult. Are there any decent beginners guides or do's and dont's?
