PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

You'll get better (and calmer) the more you play. My win rate when reaching the top 10 is still abyssmal and I have an embarrassing # of 2nd place finishes, but it gets easier to keep your cool in the end game the more you get there. You'll also start to figure out what works and what doesn't as you get into the last few small circles.

I'm at 55 hours lol

This was my first game in a few days

Adding in one extra ammo type would not make this a simulator. It would allow for more depth in looting than "Pick up all the 762 cuz everything big uses it".

Trying to decide whether you should carry a bunch of the heavy .308 or lighter 762/556 is a pretty compelling choice. Armies the world over struggle with this same dilemma all them time. Hell thats why the US moved to 556 even thought it isn't so hot at killing. (Slinging more lead down field is more important than clean kills to US Military).

looting is tedious enough as it is without having to search for even more specific types of ammo

i dont give a fuck what real armies have to deal with im just trying to bang some boys in cyberspace not balance the budget of a major branch of government

I think 55 hours is still fairly new to this game, especially the end game because so little of your overall play time will have been there and the only way to get better is to keep getting into the top 10 or so. I know I hadn't won any solo matches yet after 55 hours. I think I had a 2nd place and a few top 5's. I'm sure there are better players who were dominating by that time but I'd say those guys are outliers.

I tried 1 match and I can't get past the low camera. I'd probably prefer it in concept for the more immersive and realistic experience. Hopefully they adjust the view (a lot).

The camera height is correct. You can see that you are eye to eye with other player models. The issue is world scale and that is a bigger problem. It's an issue in 3rd person as well but much more apparent in 1st person. The only way to fix that is to rescale the assests for map. The narrow FOV was addressed with the slider in the options.

In fact, when you load up initially, you can see your characters eyes before the game removes the head model from your client, which is kind of nightmarish for a second but shows you that the camera height is correct.

If they addressed the asset scale in the maps they are working on it's going to feel like you are in Alice in Wonderland when you transition between the current map and the new maps.

Honestly, I think I'm starting to enjoy the FPP mode more than the regular. Feels... less cheap I guess? I'm trying to think of a better word than cheap.

finally had an M24 yesterday and great positioning but the circle was closing in by the blue warehouse near crater. i ended up getting killed by a crossbow late into the game. really had no idea where he was

Out of the 11 assault rifles and sniper rifles, 6 of them chamber for 7.62, it's very easy to see why they might do it. Adding more strategy to the loot game is totally ok with me.

Getting #1 with 1 kill feels equal parts awful and amazing. Circle let me camp out on a boat and alt-tab to do something else the whole round. At the end I swam to shore and got the last guy as he was healing from the shoot out with #3.

I'd like to get #1 with zero kills but I'd need to get real lucky.

Sounds really fun and engaging.

I've won two so far and quite a few top 10's

its not strategy, its luck. i guarantee you 99% of games you wont be making a decision which to carry, youll just be searching for the right type for half the game.

I never realized the massive difference between third person and first person hip fire. The ump is even more godlike.

You can still walk out of windows, right? Couldn't do it in the first person server but it might have been just me not adjusting my position properly since i'm used to third person.

My crates and items don't show up. I'm assuming a it's due to server lag. There are squares with Xes as if there was supposed to be something but the image never fills in.

I wanna open my crate. :(

Finally got my first kill at 3 hours in. I had the drop in open field, sprayed wildly and barely tagged him with my rifle, but then closed and switched to uzi. Swiped his bandages and crept away to shack to heal up. Ultimately 13th, my best yet.

That got me enough BP for my first reward and I opened it to find... a blank square. And then all my inventory is blank squares too. PUBG, you truly are Early Access.

Of the readily available rifles (not in air drop crates), isn't it just the AK, SKS, and KAR? That's on par with 5.52 (SCAR, M16, M4).

Of the 4 ammo types, the .45 is the only type I rarely use. So if anything, another gun or two that uses that might be worthwhile.

Yeah, something is definitely wrong with the game for me and I don't know what.

My connection is fine, but I keep getting network lag errors at the start of the game again, and just now I shot a guy five times with an M4 as they teleported around, and they ended up shooting me through a tree.

edit: point blank shotgun, all pellets hit, no armor, i hit him multiple times, he turns around aims 90 degrees to my left and headshots me with a saiga

My serious end game problem is moving too early. I tend to jump way before I need to and end up getting popped. That and terrible placement ha

This is a bad idea

The game punishes spray and pray very harshly. Even at 5 - 10m strafing and shooting you will miss every shot

Rather stop, crouch, and do single shots or 3 round bursts. Ive killed so many people who are shooting on the move by just standing still and returning fire

And for the love of everything that is holy don't stand still to shoot in the middle of an open field. If you can find some cover and then start shooting.

I got camo hotpants in my first gamescom crate, I noticed today the blue hotpants are selling for almost $400. I am nervous as hell right now LOL

Very interested in this game when I heard of the concept, but then I saw it was third person and a common strategy was just hiding behind walls and using the camera to keep an eye on your surroundings while you're completely hidden. Huge turnoff.

Is this game worth trying out solely for the new first person mode?

Watch some streams and decide for yourself? A lot of steamers are strictly playing FPP now.

That is definitely why First-Person was a godsend. It's made solo play enjoyable to me again. If that was your biggest concern, then yeah. But there can still be a lot of waiting and camping. It's just not as advantageous to campers as it is in third person.

I had a Pulp Fiction moment the other day. It was me vs a duo. We were circling around one of the white look out towers. I shotgun one of them to death but I'm left at one sliver of health. I hear his friend on the other side and we keep circling around, changing direction trying to catch one another. We both round the corner, I unload 2 shells at him and miss completely at point blank range. I figure I'm screwed and he empties his entire UMP clip at point blank and misses every bullet. This gives me enough time to reload and finish him off. Man we both sucked lol.

Great stuff, thanks. I'm terrible at this game but I enjoy pretending to be sneaky.

Is there any audio tweak that will help me decipher where bulelts are coming from? I have a really good pair if headphones but I always seem to end up hiding on the wrong side of a rock or a tree when I'm under fire.

It's just crazy seeing streamers immediately knowing EXACTLY where the bullets are coming from.

Yes! First Solo FPP Chicken Dinner!

Man, I don't think I'll ever play third person again, FPP is so much better.

.

Edit: When someone fires a gun, there are three sounds. You hear the whiz and the crack of the bullet first, and the actual gun sound (the sound the gun makes when it's fired) last (the bullet travels faster than the speed of sound for guns not called the VSS, so the bullet actually reaches you before the sound does). You hear the bullet whiz and crack roughly perpendicular to where the actual shot came from; the gun sound (the last sound you hear) comes directly from the direction of the shooter.

I played for the first time last night. As I was rummaging through a house hoping to find a better weapon I heard a vehicle quickly approach from the distance. I was so nervous I could feel my heart pounding. I was going to try to peek out the window but before I knew it I was dead. I can tell I'm not going to be very good at this game but I'm in it for the tension and I'm completely hooked.

Is this legit from PUBG or just real life? Did not know they were simulating acoustics so much. There a time delay on traveling sound ala Halo 1 PC too?

You: "I'm using a Kar98 with a 8x."

Me, an intellectual: "I'm using my Kar98 with a red dot."

This is my bane.

A SKS with a cheek pad is amazing though.

Recoil on the SKS kills it for me. Even with the new foregrip attachment i'm not a fan. I'll still use it barbecue i like sniping, but meh.

I haven't had a chance to use the EBR yet, but I fear it's the same thing that does 5 more damage.

I just had some really weird visual artifacts where edges of distant trees and terrain took on a weird pink hue when moving the camera quickly. It looked almost like color banding/CA, it was quite noticeable, never had that before. I got slightly worried that my GPU is dying. Anyone ever notice anything like this?

Just lost a fight in first person because the current first person view is so terrible. We could not see over the grass because we are 3 feet tall and he was on a hill that was like 1 foot higher then ours. If we were actually the right height it would have been fun. Please fix ASAP.

Worth an early access purchase at this point?

Looks neat, and when the FPP mode came out I am seriously considering, 30$ worth it? And first early access game, will I pay additional for full release?

Land in Yasna, grab an overunder, rush four houses down to where I'm pretty sure I saw someone's chute land, I get him just before they shotgun me. I realize the circle is all the way on the west side of the island, so I try to perimeter around the south edge looking for a vehicle and watching north to catch anyone off guard. I spot and tag one guy across the street, but he ducks behind some wreckage and doesn't poke out, so I decide to flank again, only to see some other guy following behind him, who I sneak up on and kill. First guy has vanished while I loot and boost up, I only survive because I find a boat in a river. I pull up near ruins, manage to get near Gatka on foot, just barely spot a half-damage bike outside of a compound I was sure would be occupied (I thought it was a player prone at first), and race across the Gatka field to one of those hilly foresty compounds on the west of Gatka that I never go to. I barely hear a guy shift in his building (doesn't help that he closed the only door) and bounce some frags in just right to get him hiding in a corner behind a dresser. As I try to determine which of the shots I heard came from a building, glass breaks and I get M16 quick tapped in the head from one of them... which was actually pretty impressive considering both of his and mine window were at an awkward angle to each other, and I wasn't even in the room, but in the hallway.

Worth every penny, especially with friends. You only pay for the game once and you get full release.
