PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

MUnited83

For you.
Smoke grenades are severely underrated

Using them for cover is worthless. Past 150-200m the smoke doesn't render, so snipers can easily pick you off

However, i have gotten at least 15 kills in the past two days by throwing smokes far away from myself, only to have the guy im looking for peek/run out to investigate.

Ahaha, you just reminded me of something that I did yesterday.

Game starts, I drop in a house. I see a dude going for the other one. I loot my house and all there is, is a pan and a smoke grenade. I see dude peeking outside of his house with a shotgun, and i send the smoke grenade to the right of the house. Then I run to the left of my house, exit, and run in a straigh line to him with the pan at the ready, and dude is completely distracted by the grenade. I knock him on the head with the pan, he tries to shoot but when he hits me i'm already mid swing for the second hit and I kill him :D

I think people are extra pissed because Grimmmz has been publicly doing exploits but hasn't received a ban for it.

This happened months ago to be fair, they weren't really banning anyone then.

I don't think that's it, since only a small portion of the 6.5 million players are watching these streamers. If they want people to know, be more clear with the players directly, either via the game, twitter or a blog.

There's not even an explanation for the ban, or how long it lasts. And I'm still curious what they think these players should do. Is quitting the game the only acceptable option?
They made it clear that you aren't to take advantage of any exploits or teamkill, and now there's a high profile case for both. This is a good way to show the fanbase that there is zero tolerance. It was clear that they DrD wasn't really being punished since he made an alt account and wasn't banned on that. These are just good ways to spread the word, I'm fine with it.

But yeah I think if you were to land and notice that buildings haven't loaded in the only real option is to leave.

I'd hardly call killing someone underwater an "exploit". Being able to kill someone underwater is literally something that will be in the game when they get around to fix the water.
Invisible walls are nothing like that.
Huh? How was that not an exploit...There's a reason you can't shoot people underwater from any other angle.

You got a source for that? Everything I've heard is that bullets break in water so if somebody is under the surface then you shouldn't be able to shoot them.

I think he just did it again which is what reddit is freaking out about.

I think this game would be so much more enjoyable without silencers. It's so incredibly OP. The matches would have a better flow and opening fire should always present a risk to yourself. I'm okay with silenced pistols because of the low damage, but rifles and snipers? It borderline ruins (receiving end) or wins (if I have one) the experience for me.

I really disagree with Bluehole banning people because their game glitched out.

If you want people to quit the game when their game is glitched out, be clear and convey that to the community. I mean, it's the only thing you can do to avoid a ban; you can't continue and not use the glitch when you can see people through walls. Are you gonna pretend they're not there?

Such a weird banning policy these guys have.
To me and some other people who've commented on it, the obvious answer if I'm in an early access competitive game and don't see walls rendering is to quit and just requeue. Maybe I would have won, but I'd rather be fair to other players and skip the rest of the game than exploit a bug.

Got this yesterday -- I really enjoyed the couple games I played.

I am a little annoyed that there was no heads-up on the store page or in the EULA that it uses Battleye, though. I don't have a problem with anti-cheat itself, more that I wasn't told ahead of time that running the game would install a system-level service onto my machine without my consent. Not knowing what this was before yesterday, I spent more time than I'd care to admit figuring out what it installed, and where.

Good news is that it looks like it only installed into one folder outside the game directory (to set itself up as a Windows service). That directory is Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Battleye. Running the Uninstall_Battleye.bat in PUBG's TslGame\Binaries\Win64\BattlEye folder also seems to *actually* uninstall everything, including Registry keys (a novel concept in 2017).

I spent quite a bit of time diff'ing changes to the registry ad filesystem compared to a backup I made earlier in the week, and it looks like Battleye is actually trustworthy enough to fully uninstall itself if prompted.

I would've been more comfortable if the game installer actually prompted me for my input on this, just so I could control what gets installed on my machine, but after researching this I feel somewhat more comfortable with the situation.

Anyone who doesn't want a system-level service installed on your machine when you aren't playing PUBG, you can run that Uninstall_Battleye.bat and it'll wipe the Battleye service from your machine (no reboot required, as far as I can tell). PUBG will reinstall the Battleye service the next time you play automatically.

Anyway, investigation/rant over -- I'm looking forward to playing more today.

EDIT: Just ran one last test -- Battleye is NOT uninstalled if you uninstall PUBG. You have to run the Uninstall_Battleye.bat before you uninstall, otherwise the Battleye service (BEService) will remain on your computer until you reinstall the game and run the bat, or try and manually uninstall the Service (which may not purge all the registry keys). Running the bat file is the safest option, but you'll have to do it with the game installed.

Wait, theyre banning people for this?

Last night I landed at the school and all the walls were invisible...so I shot two guys to see if it actually would go through the invisible walls, it worked, I laughed at the absurdity and left.

I'll be pissed as hell if I log in today and see I'm banned.

Well, I had a weird round.

My day was made because I finished off a guy by hitting his foot (he was behind one of those wrecked RVs), then I raced to a compound that was near the final zone (I also noticed summit was in the game).

A guy walks up my stairs and I hit him twice point blank with the shotgun. Except... there's no blood spurts. At all. My cursor is directly on his center mass and I fire twice each time, and there's no damage at all. He potatoes with a SCAR and close range and eventually kills me after like 5 seconds of fumbling while my pellets just pass right through him.

You'd only get banned if someone could prove you were doing it. Destiny only got banned cause he was streaming at the time and abused it live - from what I can tell

Tried out FPP for the first time, seems okay. Hate that my framerate tanks to 25fps sometimes.

The game isn't very well optimized honestly. I have a 1080 and the memory leak really gets to my card after a couple hours of play.

Early Access and all that.

Early Access and all that.

Oh yeah, it's been like that ever since I bought into it around launch. It's mostly steady at 30fps though.

is the EU server geographically located in the USA..

how is that hard to understand?

Then it wouldn't be a EU server if it was located in the USA.

Tell that to Square Enix. At the launch of FFXIV: ARR, the "EU" servers were located in Canada. They got around to getting proper EU servers eventually, but it took a loooong time.

The player that got banned was banned because he was using it to rack up kills and actually said during his stream that he was going to get banned for it from what I read. I think him realizing he was doing something banworthy probably played into it also.

tbh if you're game glitches out, I would quit out and start a new one and report it that way you dont get into an issue like this.

and the original ff14 servers were in japan.

its not unheard of for a region or country server not actually being located there. I asked a reasonable question.

Tried FPP again. Got 2 Pan kills off the bat in the military base, then ran around and got three more in the area. 7 kills total before I suddenly stopped paying attention around #23 :p

Had some fun in my first solo fps game.

Punched a guy to death within the first 30 seconds, then I go in to loot and hear a car pull up.

The only thing in the house is a crossbow, so I quickly grab it and load it, open the front door and fire as soon as I see the car.

Well that sucks not having FPP on Oceanic servers yet. Why the rollout to AS and not OCE, SEA or SA? Surely it isn't that much of a drain on server performance or else they wouldn't have opened it up so quickly.

First Person is the best thing to ever happen to this game.

Yeah I tried it out last night for the first time and I love it. There's places you previously couldn't hold down because someone would 3rd person peek you, now you can hold them down because people have to expose themselves to even know you're there. I played a match last night where the last few circles were on the mountain near Georgopol, and where before someone could sit up the top and 3rd person-peek everyone coming up the mountain, now they have to expose themselves to get a look. So players tend to try and stay out of sight and it becomes more about using sound rather than camera-peeking, which leaves a lot of players exposed.

I'll still play 3rd person a bit, but first-person is where it's at for me.

Where are the SEA servers located..? I live in Japan but the game defaults me to AS. I always assumed that meant Asia, not Australia.

The SEA servers are in Singapore. Australian servers are listed as Oceania in-game, AS are the Asian servers(Tokyo and Seoul). It auto connects you to the closest server in your case I believe.

I think they mentioned it's because FPP is still in beta. I've been playing from Australia on the AS servers and it feels pretty good to me. There's hardly any lag other than at the start of the game where there's a tiny delay in picking up items.

I have no audio sense in this game. Ill do well because Im mooching off my squad, but then I hear shots or have a car pull up and get murked.

It's really frustrating, but it seems sound works differently in this game and Ill have no idea where its coming from.

Im really awful and it just feels like it comes down to luck when it comes to spotting someone. My squad will be doing really great and then get wiped by some other people who seem to get the drop on us. Is there any advice for me?

Sometimes you feel bad when you start the game with a cheap campy kill

But then it's all good when you parley that into a chicken dinner you definitely earned

First off, don't have your headphones on backward, like I do half the time.

Then, it's really all about zeroing in on the sound of the gunshot from the enemy location and ignoring the snaps and whizz of the bullets when they're at you. I wouldn't stake my life on it, but I'm pretty sure that the game does supersonic ammunition right so that you'll actually hear whatever sound the bullet makes near you before you hear the pop from the barrel of the gun. But yeah, the nearby sounds of the bullets won't do anything but throw you off. Listen for the dull, distant sound. Unless they're like right next to you, of course.

I just had a round where

It crashed on the starting island
When I reconnected I was bugged out and couldn't eject from the plane until it kicked me out
I was forced to try and loot Primorsk super fast
It crashed again the first time I opened the inventory
I ran around because there were no helmets or backpacks anywhere
The server died due to a network lag error right as I was about to grab a car and leave

Okay I feel better now. I landed Novo docks and immediately killed 5 people, then swam under the bridge to avoid trolls, got shot while halfway inside an unbroken window, managed to make it barely into a circle which covered a single compound, jumped off a garage balcony onto a roof to avoid running through a courtyard, and then got into a 3 way shootout in a barn where unfortunately I went down first (I think 3 of the 4 remaining players were all in this one building).

Got downed by a M416 in 2/3 shots with a level 2 vest and a level 3 helmet.

Not even full auto. All single shots.

I'm sorry but WTF?

There's a damage bug that happens occasionally where it ignores your armor values (apparently rare). Maybe it happened to you or maybe it was lag/de-sync giving you poor information on what actually happened.

So many weird rounds.

Played 4 rounds in a row where I basically went a little too aggressive and got unlucky, over and over. No kills, only death.

Then I played some of my best killing rounds right after.

I actually managed to take a bridge that was already heavily defended (multiple people on it), but after I controlled it for a while someone with a better scope or something happened. Seemed like they shot me from a boat underneath, but I was nowhere near an edge where I might be visible.

It was all over so quickly. I opened a door into a shack and before I made it through the door frame a guy in the apartment complex behind me shot and I was down.

I see, thanks. Im not using my headphones admittedly, as I can't get my dumb PC to pick up my mic (Cloud Core headset)

No idea how to fix it, so Im a terrible teammate that can't communicate, and theres no text chat.

Anywho, outside of the sound direction, I just feel like once I get shot at from a distance, its game over for me. Ideally, Im running into a house, but I just feel like I can't force an engagement like I can in nearly any other shooter because I either can't see the enemy, or by the time I do, Im getting shot to death.

Coupled with the terrible feeling hit detection (in terms of feedback and putting shots in, etc), it just feels unfun

For example, Ive gotten into many face to face confrontations that have just been about holding down the shoot button and seeing a lifeless/unreactive body shoot back.

Its hard to explain, because obviously when you are face to face, thats exactly how it should go down, but this game just feels like I have no idea whats going on, or die instantly despite shooting at an enemy as well.... are they just better equipped than me? Are headshots instant kill?

Lack of a kill cam really sucks because it could help me understand.
