PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Just had two solo FPP wins back to back.

The first one was just general good play, wrecked shit with M249 including a vehicle explosion kill and flanked the last two dudes on final circle. Second one was just easy mode, rain + silencer = win.

To be clear, you're not invincible in the water, you just can't die to guns. Grenades, vehicles, etc, can all still kill you. But I agree bullets should have a foot or two of penetration.

I've been watching streamers like Shroud, Doc, and Ninja...and I just don't understand how they see everyone before they've been seen themselves. It's like they know exactly where to look. And quite frequently, I'll watch them shoot into a field or windows or something and get kills, and I didn't even see anyone on stream. It's just insane...don't know how they do it.

Big 144hz monitors at 144fps, plus thousands of hours of game experience. Typically they can also hear a little better than you as well unless you're watching their stream with headphones on.

Someone just stole my buggy while I was inside a house because it didn't make any noise when driving away...

I heard the steps, I heard the engine turn on, then it went silent, so I thought he was baiting me. Waited for a bit, check out the window, buggy gone. wtf.

Known bug right now where a buggy won't make sound.

Just being true to the source material.

Bullets small and large will lose all of their energy and even disintegrate within like the first foot or two (smaller rounds actually Pierce a bit further than larger ones). The water providing protection from bullets is actually pretty realistic. I imagine realism is the reason for it since the game seems to be pretty concerned with detailed ballistic simulations and so forth.

One thing to remember is that you're not seeing what they're seeing. They're probably seeing at least 1080p or higher with decent frames. Meanwhile that gets compressed until it looks like a cow just vomited on your screen. Maybe they saw a few pixels of a helmet, pixels you won't see at all after compression.

They are looking at a much higher resolution screen than you are. Also once you play enough you get a feel for where people are going to be. There are good spots and bad spots all over the map.

You mean someone like shroud? He have 1080p screen.

That's what I'm saying, the plane path covers a bunch of high-building areas such as Pochinki (and I'm advised to hunt the plane path for high kills and high aggro play). Because the circle stays on the high-building areas for 15-20 minutes, those people have no motivation to leave their buildings, and thus I never see them.

Therein lies my confusion about how I should go about killing them without waiting 15-20 minutes. :p

I'm late to continuing this conversation, but you're not supposed to go on the literal plane path to get kills. There's a bunch of common paths, landmarks, and small house that people pretty commonly pass through while moving towards the circle or near the edges of it. Based on the plane path and where the circle is, you can get a pretty good guess which of those common areas people will be at or be heading towards.

Example: Plane path is like NW going down towards SE, starting over Zharki and ending at Military Base. Now you know Yasnaya and anything East of it is probably fairly safe and devoid of people, so you chute or get a vehicle on drop to stay near those places and loot up. Circle appears near Sverny. Since people will most likely be moving from the West and South, you can rotate from the Eastern part of the map around the hills by plane crash and shooting range and pick up quite a few people who are just trying to move. From that point it's probably not hard to figure out where most players are going to be, so you just try to rotate towards the skinny sides of the blue/white circles and grab kills as you go.

That's a pretty basic idea of how to play out the map. Ideally you can get positions first, and ideally the circle will force people to eventually move out of houses so you don't have to push them. The only exception is when there's a decent set of structures very central to where like the 3rd or 4th circle are. That's when you can make a pretty realistic guess on whether or not to push/camp structures. Pick up grenades so that when those situations pop up you have options to make going into buildings a bit better. It's that or just be patient on LoS and catch people leaving once the circle forces them out.

Not to mention that their hearing is really well trained on the game by now, and when they hear a shot in the distance they make a mental note of where people are engaging in gun fights with each other

Why does no one drop at Yasnaya? It's not the best loot on the map, but damn, at least in duos and squads people seem to avoid that town like the plague.

All that is needed is bullets to be damaging up to a foot or 2. It would make coming up for air almost guaranteed death if someone is within a reasonable range and knows you are there. Right now, the water is a shield and coming up for air only exposes a small portion of your head. With the waves it makes shooting someone even on the surface excessively difficult. Allow bullets a foot or 2 of penetration would make a massive difference.

The city layout isn't very dense, so it takes a long time to loot. The city layout also makes ti a pretty bad place to get stuck in a firefight in with all the tall buildings. Vehicle spawns near there are kind of lacking generally. The terrain around the city is also kind of a pain in the ass and easy to caught in.

It's not a terrible place to start and loot if the map plays out for it, but it can end up being a pretty miserable place otherwise.

Yeah, I can see that, especially the vehicle part.

Funniest underwater moment: myself and two others were once "trapped" underwater at the corner cove south of Mylta. It was late game and none of us could safely exit without taking sniper fire, so we kept brushing up against each other like mindless goldfish, no way to harm each other underwater.

I've been spending a lot of time in vehicles lately as I'm committed to the lulz. Easily go through 2-3 gas cans in a match. Mostly boats and UAZs- seat 5 is life. I just chill out somewhere and wait for a gunshot or a moving vehicle, then I throw myself foolishly into a bad situation.

Yasnaya is easily one of my favorite cities to loot on the map.

I am super bored at work right now, so I drew up a little map of how I think about Yasnaya. I always loot the red buildings and then if I have time head to the old buildings (marked orange) before I peace out. Check the garage in the west of the city and then the field south of the old buildings if you need a vehicle to leave.

I'm not super opposed to dropping Yasnaya or something and you can make it out okay, I just think it can turn miserable quickly due to the layout. I just prefer the more dense cities since I'm more likely to want to get moving quickly.

In general I tend to despise areas heavy on apartment buildings >_>

I actually think the lack of density makes it a good place to fight from. You have lots of midrange lines-of-sight and the skyline of the city is kind of angled, meaning you can utilize the roofs fairly well. Just my opinion obviously :)

This game just refuses to click for me, I'm not improving at all. I've put in 70 hours but I'm terrible and normally I'm really good at shooters, like getting abused for cheating good so this is quite frustrating for me. It's for several reasons, the game runs really poorly for me with almost constant freezing, something I'm just not used to as I always prioritize frame rate and smoothness above all else. Another huge reason is just because of the nature of the game, you don't get to practise the combat mechanics that often, I've started hot dropping just to get more action so the muscle memory starts to form, I really wish there was a practise range of some sort. I also feel like the weapons are really inconsistent, like sometimes people die quickly others it feels like the bullets just aren't registering properly. I've had instances tonight where someone has popped out and killed me before my gun has even finished ADS, lightening quick, so either they're amazing, the game has awful lag compensation (so they're getting extra time on me before I see them) or they got extremely lucky. Either way it's frustrating.

I think I need to take a break for awhile as I'm just getting angry and not having fun anymore. I do enjoy the concept of the game a lot and when it's going well I really like it but there's a lot about it that just pisses me off. I wish I hadn't jumped in for another 6 months or so, but now that I have I'd rather not quit entirely but I think a break is a must.

I turned Windows Aero back off last night and I think the Steam framerate counter immediately jumped up by like 20-30 frames on average, really weird.

I should stop going to the apartments in the top right of Yasnaya. I'm consistently disappointed by them.

Those jigsaw apartments are good for squads to loot because there is a good amount of loot in them, it just takes a while to get through them. As a squad you can clear a complex of them in a couple minutes if people are going quickly. Solo or duo I think you're better served going to buildings with more dense loot allocations though.

Magic houses exposed!

I'm consistently surprised by how few people know about them, honestly. They're so good because of how many loot spawns are in them and how close together they are.

The way the netcode in this works is frustrating. Basically it's client side hit detection, combined with low tickrate servers, and together that means there's lots of desync. Some dude can know you're coming, pre-aim (and pre-fire sometimes), pop out and kill you with 4-5 direct hits, and they're all going to register almost instantly in your game.

I'm not going to tell you it gets better (although I expect there to be high tickrate servers eventually) but knowledge of that informs how I make lots of decisions about when to shoot and how to play certain tactical engagements.

That's how it feels, sometimes I die in a blink of an eye from SMG/AR fire and it never sits right with me, I don't feel like I was out played it just feels like nonsense as most of the time I don't even see them on my screen before I die due to desync apparently, and it makes me want to log off. Technically the game just feels so poor, and I'm having trouble getting past it, any other game I would have dropped for the performance alone so it speaks to how much I actually like the game that I'm still playing it.

Thanks for putting this map together. I frequent Yasnaya but land on apt. roofs. I almost never check the buildings you have marked as having the best loot but I was aware of the vehicle spawns.

If you're talking about the houses I think you are (two story, balcony on both sides, can be duplexes), those things are godlike. Extremely dense loot spawns and you can get out of them fast. Some top leaderboard players I've played with a couple times have said they're the best kind of house to loot in the entire game. There's a cluster of them in Georgopol that can loot up most of a squad in like a minute.

I'm ok with bullets not doing damage to submerged targets. I would like, however, is that players have to dry their ammunition once they come out if the water. It would deincentivize loitering in water and act as an offset to their invulnerability. It could be the same amount of time as a first aid.

I can't wait for this game to be better optimized. Seems like my FPS just shoot all over the place for no good reason.

Every time I turn my camera in a building my game freezes for a split second. The same when I open my inventory. I can keep my FPS above 60 but nothing I've tried stops the freezing.

The hitching is the only thing that bugs me these days, it's also bad for me when I open up my inventory. Gsync on my new monitor hasn't helped.

It really sucks at the start of the round, you're rushing around trying to loot a weapon and you freeze every time you open the inventory or make a quick turn in a building, it has lost me gunfights many times.

I made a quick GIF of the issue, look at my frame rate when I open my inventory, plus you can see it freeze.

I've tried maxed out, very low, a mix of both and nothing helps. I actually just uninstalled the game so I can say I've tried reinstalling although I doubt it'll help.

It's a sync issue on match start. It won't go away no matter your settings and how beefy your computer is. I've found once the white appears it'll smooth out.

This was a thing the Giant Bomb guys had on one of their PCs. Looked super frustrating. I think they improved it but I have no idea how.

I tested the magic house thing, definitely appears true in Yasnaya. Got an AKM, M16, 4x scope, medkits etc., level 3 backpack, level 3 vest, level 2 helmet.

I killed my 2 rivals in town (one person obviously knew since they dropped at the identical house next to mine). Unfortunately I never saw another person, dying to someone named "LAGBOOT" that I could never see using an SMG in a random forest while I drove through on a motorbike.

OK I get you're trying to be funny, but as I said it's not often and I get shot plenty. It's not normal for the camera to shake like that.

Rust + nerves? Had a game Sunday night, flanked a guy, ADS via Holi sight 10m away and... I manage to rustle my jimmies and miss every shot.

I also tweaked my control sensitivity. I'd cranked it up too high.

What magic house thing..oh just going to the marked red ones?
Yeah.

I just tried another game, and there was a single other player in the entire town. I never heard or saw them, nor did I ever see a single player, dying at #13 because the circle repeatedly spawned at the far edge as I sprinted across the map endlessly. I tried going without a car that time since cars almost always result in my being shot.

FPP mode is like the loneliest thing in existence. I was even scanning with a 4x most of the game TRYING to see anyone, and watching bridges, paths into the circle etc.

Well I saw 2 people in my latest game.

Some of the people don't even seem to be trying to win as much as they are to get kills or something though. I was at the edge of a lategame blue zone pushing in, and someone drove a dacia straight into the blue, hopped out, and started trying to shoot me. Of course between the final two shots that would have killed them, they managed to die to the blue zone so I wouldn't get kill credit. Either way, they weren't making it back alive, and pretty much the only outcome unless they got a crazy instant kill would have been just ending the game earlier for me.

Since they're already stationary and have their gun lined up, they usually kill me in the car or as soon as I get out, before I can orient the shot location (and/or they have a scope).
