I'm at the point where all I care for is the M16, some nice attachments and a Red Dot. 8x feels like too much in most situations (unless I'm able to safely camp on a really good overview). 4x feels too much when the circles are getting much smaller too.

AKM is fine and until I'm in the top 10, then it'll just feel really inaccurate and bad for Panic Mode™️.

AKM + Compensator is amazing for full auto spraying, but without the compensator its a pretty bad rifle.

You often dont need a scope to win thats right but some circles really really benefit a scope. Like the north slope of Stalber is a pain if you don't have a scope and your only option is basically hiding until the circle closes and hope to catch people but you will have a hard time clearing the space you need.

It does seem the M16 has the higher velocity and travel distance than the AK, probably why I was shit with it haha. Though if I do end up getting a decent kitted SKS I stick with AK for shared bullet pool, gotta save that space.

Also, keen for the Ruger. Clearly it'll be based on this: "George Clooney uses the Ruger Mini-14 as a sniper rifle with collapsible stock, side-mounted scope and large homemade silencer in the 2010 film The American."

For some reason even with an 8x scope and my cross hairs on someone at a distance that should hit my SKS shots seem to always fail to connect.

Bullet drop, travel time etc. Basically at aroind 800-900m the bullet takes 1 second to hit the target, which is a lot but at shorter ranges where the sks is most common (100-300 meters) you still have a pretty significant traveltime on the bullet)

Also the SKS bullets travel faster than the AKM and slightly faster than k98 so if you are used to lead with those weapons you might have to change how much you lead.

Cause it's 556 think less punchy sks.

Im thinking basically m16 with sniper attachments rather than AR attachments. So if you find an SR supressor, SR extended mag and a cheekpad there is a 5.56 rifle to use that on if you cant find an SKS. So basically you pick either m16 or mini-14 depending on what attachments you can find.

Then thats just you missing :p

Where you leaning? That can impact how accurate a scope is, missed a lot of AKM with 4x shots when leaning at like 150-200m. But the SKS is accurate, its only real drawback is high recoil so you need the recoil dampening attachments to do follow up shots quickly.

In case it wasn't obvious, I was making fun of whoever here originally used the term "overwhelmingly stagnant" after the hand wringing about the loss of static update schedule got, well, out of hand.

I'm pleased with what we've heard about this update, and also intrigued by the preview of the fog map including vaulting. I'm expecting either this update, or the next, to include vaulting.

My only contingency before being completely sold on the new patch schedule is that they do this release right: Test it properly, and if there are problems fix them before letting it go to the main live servers.

Oh. Okay.

Should've worn a helmet! Safety first. :D
 
Swapped out my AMD A10 5800k rig with another one that uses an i7-2600k, still old but oh my god the difference is ridiculous

It must've been a horrible CPU bottleneck because I went from Very Low being a slideshow to Ultra being 100% playable

Similar boosts in Rise of the Tomb Raider too

I think it's a little premature to be making fun considering the paucity of what's been announced to be included this time.

I'd love to be proved wrong by the full patch notes.

I'm pleased with what we've heard about this update, and also intrigued by the preview of the fog map including vaulting. I'm expecting either this update, or the next, to include vaulting.

I would love to believe this, but see no evidence for it, hence my rather negative attitude to how development is progressing.

No vaulting next week, and there is no "fog map" afaik, its just a new weather condition.

Ok definitely not coming back to play for next patch then. Why is it taking so long?

Because its a massive overhaul and they probably need to redo a lot of the map and assets to account for people being able to get everywhere in a "legit" manner now? Nothing about the vaulting update looks its a small addition.

Edit: I mean hopefully vaulting will be fairly painless once released so we can all point to it and go "see, better make it work before releasing it". But vaulting is gonna introduce an incredible amount of bugs and glitches that they will have to deal with.

What special grenades do we need? The ones we already have are rarely used from what I've seen. Has anyone ever used a stun grenade effectively? I don't even know what happens when it hits O_O

I stand by my suggestion for a heartbeat sensor (like in Rainbox Six).

Somekind of fake gunshot grenade like CS have I think. That would be useful in PUBG.

I now want every shooter game to have a compass like this has so you can call out directions/numbers to team mates. When playing some Destiny co-op yesterday I was constantly like "there's a guy at your... direction... over there, crap".

That would be hilarious, I admit. The ultimate tool to fuck with people. They could just add firecrackers. Or make it a grenade, whatever.

Only downside is that distinct grenade sound could give away that the shots are fake.

There is a subtle idle animation that causes a small delay when firing weapons. Has anyone noticed this?

Whenever you haven't shot, ADS or targeted for a while, the character lowers their weapon a little. When the character is in this state, the first shot will have a noticeable delay of 50-100 ms. This can really mess up your shots, especially when firing something like a shotgun or a pistol.

I wasn't really weighing in on my suggestions, it was more the question that was important.
 
So the MIni-14...is it an auto rifle?

In real life a Mini-14 is a semi-auto, magazine fed ranch rifle.. usually chambered in 5.56 and some people would call it an assault rifle. A fucking great ... great firearm in real life (I own one) and I can't wait to use in PUBG. A mini-14 is not a sniper rifle, its caliber ammo is slated for 200-300'ish yards at max.

I'm not understanding it's role in the game, unless it's not filling a niche and is just an M16-like gun. It seems like a worse M16 that I guess you would take if you can't find an M16.

Like i said above, my guess its role is to do the same thing the m16 does, but take sniper attachments rather than AR attachments. Something that is currently missing for 5.56 rifles.

Edit: Every now and then i find a full compliment of SR stuff (compensator/silencer, extended mag, cheekpad) but no SKS to fit them on, this would add another weapon those items fit on and if im rocking 200+ 5.56 i can use my existing ammo instead of carrying extra for an SKS.

Im also guessing its gonna be less reliant on attachments to be good, because the recoil will be lower by default. The SKS is a great weapon with attachments but kinda bad without anything.

Ya in short, the Mini-14 can be classified an assault rifle. But it doesn't have a lot of the "scary" features, like being painted black or having an adjustable stock, full pistol grip, forgrips etc.. Its the same caliber as most AR's with a standard stock, fixed features and a removable magazine. In real life, most people living in states with heavy AR regulations just buy a Mini-14 since its basically the exact same thing but never falls under those rules.

Definitely not a sniper rifle in real life, but like an AR you could put scopes on it to achieve range outwards of 200-300 yards max due to bullet velocity. Some custom ARs you can chamber in bigger calibers to make as 1000 yard guns, but the Mini-14 is not such a thing. I do suspect however, PUBG is not real life.. people are going to slap 4x and 8x scopes on the gun and try or may have long range successes... its a game. The mini-14 may take SR attachments instead of AR too.. to make it different. In real life I've seen people take Mini-14s and put scout scopes on them to try and simulate a scout rifle, semi-auto.

I would stick to a KAR98 for range. They are probably avoiding (for now) adding in real sniper rifles for obvious reasons. PUBG seems like a medium range game when its at its best. 100-200 yard combat. It seems at its weakest at close or long ranges. This is part of why the game feels sooooo different. Most video games focus on close quarter combat, or sniping. This game really focuses on in between that, in wide open space.

A midranged semi-auto that takes SR attachments and uses 5.56 is something the game could really use, so I hope that's what is actually happening. Even if it stops being great past 300m or so, it's still good variety. Right now the options outside of crates for SR attachments are too weak to realistically justify wasting inventory space holding onto them.

Holy shit. #2. Closest I've come to winning in solo FPP. Hit the other guy twice, once direct in the head (I thought). Perhaps my two other shots went over his head.

Unbelievably clutch last few minutes:

- reaching top 5 (by waiting for last leg of plane flight, landing at and looting some outhouses for two great rifles and a 4x scope, then lucking out with the Zones while thwarting/avoiding people (was literally in the zone at starting position until top 15))
- lucking out with top 10 zone, a small gulley with sporadic trees and bushes
- getting high-damage blue zone'd in the fourth-to-last zone
- just escaping it
- using my only first aid kit to heal
- head shotting a dude behind a tree, crawling for his corpse
- spotting someone at the top of the hill, deciding to ignore
- getting head shotted just before reaching the tree corpse, from down the side of the hill - almost no health left
- hide behind the tree corpse, loot it for 2 first aid kits
- heal
- crawl further up the hill
- get shot at again from the marksman off the hill, can't see where tf he is
- realise he's sniped the dude on top of the hill and it's just me and the marksman left
- down to the last zone
- get hit while roadie running towards the marksman, shotgun out
- almost no health, duck behind a big rock
- heal using last first aid kit
- throw a smoke grenade over rock towards marksman
- SMOKE GRENADE LANDS PERFECTLY WHERE THE MARKSMAN WAS SITTING
- go around the rock out into the open
- spot the marksman sprinting out from the smoke in a panic towards more cover, but don't get my AK out in time
- see him hide in a bush
- take a few steps, aim at his head, see him notice me
- shoot once, head shot
- take a hit
- shoot again, seemingly head shot
- take a hit
- dead

FUCKING CLUTCH AF MANNNN

Genuinely shaking, heart pumping

I've gotten a few Top 10's and my best has been 3rd in Solo FPP but the times I've came Top 10 I only had 2-3 kills and I came in 3rd without killing anyone, so to me that's not impressive at all.

I felt more accomplished in one game where I dropped down in school and killed 7 people in a minute but died a few minutes later in like 60th place then coming in the Top 10 with 2 kills.

Am I the only one that loves the SCAR? Melts people at close range, has very stable sprays at mid range, and can be even used as a decent enough sniper in a pinch. Put a silencer on it, and it' s heaven.

Exciting to read this! I had a similar game 2 nights ago. Strangely enough, my 7 year old, and my wife were sitting in my office watching me without blinking an eye. Without telling them much about the game other than you have 1 life, and the world has a barrier that shrinks.. they were engulfed the in action just as much as I was.. by just watching.

I know the feeling you're trying to describe here, its that adrenaline rush that PUBG gives.

also what DPI are you playing with? If it's 1000+ try someting like 650-800.

I know some people who are on 5k DPI or someting like that. When they move the mouse 5cm they do a 360° ingame. How the fuck do you even hit anything with that?

Could be desync issues or he just turned around and headshotted you. What did the kill feed say?

Try lowering your DPI if you feel like you're over aiming.
