PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Game doesn't exactly look amazing maxed anyway.

I have to at least have textures on ultra as well. The game doesn't look amazing, but textures make it look at least somewhat decent. Luckily I have no problems being competitive with those settings.

I get that and would probably agree. But the implementation... But I just found a Tweet where they said they will improve this quite a lot in the future. It doesn't feel fine to me personally at the current state.

I know there are improvements to be made, but "hilariously bad" seems like a bit of an exaggeration.

Vaulting is all I really want for FPP at the moment. The movement is the exact same as third person so I don't see them changing any of that.

So many people praise the AKM, but whenever I get it I can't make it work. Even when I have a compensator on it I feel like the gun shoots everywhere but where I point it. Am I doing something wrong with it? I put an 8x on the AKM today and pointed it at a player about 100m away, didn't zero or anything and the bullets went about 5 feet above the enemys head, I had to point the gun below their feet to land shots. Plz help.

Just won around where I didn't see a damn person until the final 30. Nobody wanted to loot Vasnaya so I had it all to myself. Then a supply crate drops and suddenly 18 people show up. At one point I had a sniper shooting at me so I hid behind a house. Then someone in the other direction started firing at me with an automatic. So I just started sprinting towards a car with like 15% health. I don't know how I survived....

Managed to get into a house on the other side of town, heal up, and make it to the final 4. Killed everyone with my silenced SCAR and won. Wooooo!

I should not have survived this.

I love this game.

The tree strikes again, what a valorous death.

Their explanation implied it was mostly during OCE off hours there may be less than 500 people in certain queues which would result in slow matches. I don't know why they took so long to at least try them for you guys, but it seems like so far it has been a success.

heir response has been weird. In one of the recent "PUBG sells (insert number here) million copies" threads, someone posted a graph showing PUBG sales by region and Australia had ~300K sales IIRC. How that can't be enough players to sustain TPP and FPP matches across all game types I'm not sure. That's not including the shitload of Asian players that play on OCE servers as well.

They should at least trial OCE FPP solo/squad matches for a week or so and see how it goes, instead of saying it flat-out won't work.

See that's what perplexes me, in that we very clearly have a decent chunk of the 10 million sales pie for our region so why are we being treated like shit when it came to FPP? I'm glad we finally got duo so we can at least show Bluehole that we are very eager to play that mode, but it just felt off with their messaging when even in the most off-peak times (I'm talking 2-4am) I can get a duo FPP going instantly. I understand their intentions on wanting to add in these modes when players have a chance to actually match with decent wait times but I would also want to just have them across regions no matter the wait time just so all modes are available.

I had a bit of a story last night. I was off by myself at the far bottom left corner of the main island. I don't think anyone dropped near me. Finally with 30-40 left a crate dropped not far away, but it was off in the water from the corner of the island. I don't usually mess with crates, but this one was way out in the water, not even near the military island. I was alone, figured what the heck, and went to the lighthouse to hunt for a boat.

I then promptly saw a guy far in the distance start running out onto the beach. Since I'm trying to practice shooting on the few rare occasions I can find humans, I started taking potshots. He ran back towards the center of the island.

All right, so I figured he was scared away but watching. I went around to the left edge of the island for a different boat...bam, just when I got close, a white clown car showed up with some dudes inside. I wasn't sure if it flipped over, was smoking, or what, but clearly they were hunting me and my boat so I quickly hid, sneaking around the hill they just drove over. No engine noise, no footsteps, no shots. I carefully sneaked around the entire hill to flank them. No car. It was a ghost car. They silently vanished, like gorillas in the mist.

After a while I gave up and just ran for the boat. Nothing. I got all the way out to the crate. Unlooted, with M249. That's an interesting gun, working at long distance for some reason, but with permanent full-auto. Naturally I didn't have any scope, or maybe a 2x.

When I got back to the island to push the circle, the clowns show up again. I tried shooting but they sped off into a swamp. I'm determined not to let them be behind me, so I eventually found the car in the swamp and M249-sniped one of the guys (who were hanging out practically in lategame blue at this point). But wait, there was only one. As I tried to circle the swamp to kill him while he's knocked out, his partner apparently materialized from somewhere closer to the circle and killed me.

My one consolation was that I assume the knocked out guy eventually died, and his partner "Saltynutz" definitely died outside the circle like 20 seconds later. I hope those shenanigans were worth it!

Has anyone ever gone to that island in the far NE of the map?
You need a good flight path and a good boat spawn, but it's easy to get there and have a few minutes looting if so. The loot is military-ish grade so you can get geared up if you don't mind being lonely for a while.

That's actually really cool. I've never tried going there before, I guess I'll try the next time I play.

Get into OCE FPP, instant match. Hmmmm 🤔🤔 See this is why their response felt weird. I know they have the stats but unless I'm just fucking magical everytime I play any mode at any time I get into a game perfectly fine. Am I the 1%?

No it's fine for me.

For you.
The time where I dropped in Lipovka and had it all for myself and all it had was bike helmets over and over and over and over, and one pistol, won't ever be beaten.

Northernlion and his crew have the best videos.

Their PUBG series is enjoyable indeed. But don't watch it if good gameplay is most important to you. They're about having a good time first and foremost. Except for Austin, who's the only one, to his frustration. :)

The red zone is some useless RNG bullshit. Second time now I got killed mid-game randomly as I was having good gear and won some fights.

Why does it even exist? Ran out of Ponchiki into the field east, as I was in the field red zone spawned and I just died. The only good mechanic it entails is that it masks footsteps and you can rush people but you don't need the bomb rain for that. Did they ever talk about removing or fixing it?

Im sure they have talks about what to do with it.

Originally they said it was ment to flush out campers, but like we can see it doesnt really do that.

I vote for removing it too.

I've played this game a ridiculous amount yet I don't understand any of the bitching around the red zones.

I've never been killed by one and it's extremely easy to avoid. I don't see how you can get caught up in one proper unless you're damn near negligent.

This is the first game I've really played that has made me realize I need to upgrade my graphics card.

RIP my 770. These FPS drops....

The game is extremely CPU heavy, and even using a regular HDD and not a SSD fucks your game up

Dont feel bad if your system cant handle it

One of my friends has a 1080ti and a i7700K and only gets 60 FPS, even when everything is set to low

I also feel it adds a little chaos factor to the mix and I really like that. Being forced to walk through a red zone is thrilling!

You're playing without anti-aliasing? I usually prefer having no AA in games, but I just find PUBG to be a complete pixel crawling mess without it. How do you cope?

It's simple to understand even if you haven't experienced it yet. Exactly because the probability of getting actually hit in the red zone is so insanely low it becomes an annoying RNG mechanic when you get hit because 99% of the time the right play is just to disregard it and do whatever you did before the red zones spawned. The other time I got killed I fought a dude on an open field and the red zone spawned. You don't get out of there and go for a risky escape - you just continue the fight as usual because the probability of getting hit is so low. But when you get hit and he doesn't? Yeah, that is just random bullshit.

And even as a mechanic against campers, it's useless because it doesn't affect the people inside the solid houses - where most red zones occur. It needs a complete rework.

The game is very blurry with AA on plus of course it eats at your FPS.

Every competitive FPS I play goes without any AA usually. It just never bothers me and I can see things at range with it off. This game gives me so many random performance issues I'm scared to turn anything up :v

I do actually recall messing with settings once and shit got super blurry super fast like that dude said. Is there some post processing or some shit attached to it? I don't actually know much about graphics settings besides what pros tell me they use :p

Edit: Also yeah, red zones suck. I don't even care that they can be lethal 1/100 times or something. It's just random .001% to fuck you and it really doesn't add much. The only useful thing it does is give you some sound and RNG lethality cover to move or shoot. That's kinda cool, but I wish there was a better way to make that a thing.

Your friend have some terrible problem somewhere if he only gets 60fps.

Yeah it is pretty blurry on the lower end of things due to whatever Unreal Engine 4 AA solution it uses, though I've found on high and ultra it's not bad (and iirc Shroud keeps his on high). In most games I've just turned off AA as a habit, I'm weird, I like my jaggies, but it's just been the complete opposite here as there's just so much shrubbery and distance is so much more of a factor than any other game I've played in a multiplayer space. I sometimes fiddle with turning it off again but then I have a really hard time detecting motion. These old eyes just ain't what they used to be.

The AA in this game seems like it's just FXAA which is a blurry mess. I keep it on low for SOME AA without getting too blurry. It might mix in TAA at higher settings but the blue is too strong.

I still get a ton of pixel crawl (at 3440x1440) that I sometimes mistake for people moving. Ugh.

Unfortunately I'm also the type that wants to keep the framerate at above 100 at all times too. I might try fiddling with AA if it's not gonna end up blurry and laggy, but I'm worried about the performance hit too.

I set AA to high long time ago with reshade sharpen to get rid of the blur and it was pretty nice, it was fine if it ate some fps.

Then I gave AA OFF like 2 weeks, fps was nice but oh god I never got used to the terrible pixels running on screen everywhere and its sooo hard to spot people compared having AA on.

This is with 1080p, it might be better with higher res.
Went back to AA ON + reshade few days ago and its easy and nice to see things again.

AA is pretty cheap in this game. Going with a lower setting with help a little. Turning down shadows and effects seem to help a lot for performance.

I mean I run everything on the lowest settings and I still have some areas of the map that drop down under like 80FPS. I guess AA can't make it any worse but I wanna figure that out before anything else. My rig isn't that powerful but running a 6600k OCed and a 970 it already gets kinda rough :T

I'm probably just being a paranoid bitch about it though. I used to play the DayZ alpha/beta mod in similar conditions so I guess I just got used to it.

I love Vasnaya simply because if it's even a little out of the way, people won't go there. But I always drive there if I can. Last round I left with an M416 (fully modded + silencer) with 2\2\2 armor and bag, not to mention a silencer for a sniper rifle (which I got from my first kill).

Was down to a sliver of health twice but still won!

Pro-tip: load your kar98 before trying to shoot.

Is the AWM a 1-shot kill even to a level 3 helmet? I had one last night and a guy clipped me while I was running. Damn good shot, but I didn't think it would kill me.

Wonder if cheat tools have been released recently.

Had one obvious cheater one shot me today

(I was riding on a bike with level 3 armor and a level 3 helmet and he headshot me once with a P92 insta killing me)

And one highly suspicious squad wipe

(Two of my squad upstairs, I'm in another building, guy in a buggy drives in gets out and headshots my squad with one burst of fire and then insta turns to where I was flanking and headshots me.)

Now the second guy may just have been that fucking good but I still find it highly suspicious.

The AWM and crossbow are the only weapons that can one shot a level 3 helmet. The AWM headshot actually deals like 330 damage or something ridiculous, so you still take almost 150% of a healthbar through a level 3 lol

Ugh. I'll never get to use a silenced vector with an extended mag....

(kept the vector and died like 2 minutes later)

I had the exact same Vector as you and I died when I tried to take out two people from behind because I had put it on burst instead of auto.

SMGs should not have a burst option and they should be on auto when you pick them up.
