PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

Not being shown where your killer was - not even their general direction - will always be infuriating, because it will always feel cheap.

Just had an excellent gunfight with someone at 25 left, then got shot from behind at random. I spun but couldn't place them. Not seeing where they were just made it feel janky and cheap.

Yeah that will help - but even in group the general direction would be useful

It would be cheating. If I was able to find a good hiding spot and kill one of you with a suppressed weapon, it wouldn't make sense for the rest of your team to know where I am just because the game told you the direction. If you can't tell from the sound, you should be screwed.

If enemy / enemies don't have suppressors you get general idea about direction and even location from listening to shots. Suppressors make it insanely hard to spot origin area if shots come over distance.

It wouldn't be fair to the person who successfully killed someone without being detected. He would be punished for getting the kill because his victim will call out to his teammates the direction he was killed in which they wouldn't have known otherwise.

Show it to me when the game is over/whole team dies then. Would be an interesting innovation in the genre even. Assuming they can actually accurately display what happened. I don't trust that at this moment.

That being said I am fine without it.

An actual revolt would happen if they implemented something that dumb.

Very well.

I literally never play competitive games with friends or in teams so I didn't think about it in great depth.

Edit: worth mentioning i mean it as a REALLY general direction, like in old Battlefield games. You die, the camera hovers up, then it just rotates to face the killer's direction. I suppose in some instances that's good as a pinpoint location though.

2nd place with zero kills.

I don't even do that intentionally, it just seems to happen.

No idea where the final guy was who shot me though =/

I'm pretty bad at this game, but I had a wonderful kill earlier.

Beginning of the game, in some big reactor area, I picked up a Shotgun and spotted another player who was still unarmed. He was mumbling something into his microphone while charging at me so of course I pulled the trigger.

I realized afterwards he was shouting "heywannateamup" and with his dying breath he said "oh okay good game I guess".

I felt a little actual remorse.

My proudest hour: seeing a guy in Pochinki running into houses while I'm on one of the little second story balcony, I think he sees me and he runs into another house with roof access. I watch the door and he pops up, and he definitely sees me as I think I have a shot but don't. I carefully line up a Molotov and throw it, burning half the roof and destroying the door and blocking access back down. I jump off the balcony...

...and the guy pops out of an unburnt corner and pops me in the head as I fall.

I'm not even mad, that was legitimately impressive.

Do solo players and team players play together?

I was doing surprisingly well, 12 left, but when it got to the final area a whole bunch of people came down on me.

I was watching the second floor from the third floor stairs. Guy runs by real quick, I take a shot, miss, he shuts the door.

I go and lay on the floor in the room opposite and just wait. And wait. And wait.

And then he blasts a hole in the door, we both see each other, he gets the shotgun blast off quicker than I can.

Fun.

solo, duo and squad queues are separate from each other.

I just got unlucky, then.

So far my favorite moment was swimming side by side with another player for a couple minutes. Basically racing to dry land to get a shot off. At a point a sniper took shots at us and we both submerged. Almost felt bad shooting him after that.

Got a fascinating molotov kill without actually molotoving the guy. I guess I shot the dude down as he was lighting one (a weird move, given we were in the final 10) and when he went into knocked-out mode the thing exploded around him.

Car thing? Sooner or later they have to address it because when car is placed right it's godmode. Have good circle RNG and you just got godmode for rest of the game and guaranteed #1.

No, the lack of a kill cam.

This game makes me more scared than any horror game. Even if I have the advantage I always feel like someone is out there watching.

I am finding this only to be any fun with a group. Solo is just so boring for such a long stretch only to die instantly to someone who is way better or just hiding in a corner. At least with a group there is chatter and some planning and potential for more shenanigans.

Got 4th twice in a row, there was a player hiding in one of those wooden surveillance towers, we saw each other but his SKS and reflexes got me good.

This game.

Decided to pickup the game last night after seeing so many having a good time with it. Just got my first win (solo) this morning after only 10 games. Felt great! Looking forward to putting some time into this game. Although Trails in the Sky 3rd comes out this week so will have to play around that.

Do people have a general opinion on the 'right' or 'wrong' ways to play the game?

My style is to typically avoid confrontation for as long as possible. I pull my chute early and glide as far from the main path as possible (ideally to a good looting location) so I can loot and arm up in relative peace. Then I usually grab a vehicle and drive through the woods and mountains (nowhere near roads or towns) to as close to the center of the current play area as possible and then head out on foot from there.

This lets me stay in games for a very long time, but my kill count is usually very low. I've made it into the top 5 a bunch of times now with only one or no kills at all. I thought maybe that makes me seem weak, but the point of the game is to outlast everyone else, so maybe not?

This is how I play basically as well... and I enjoy it.

No right or wrong way.

No rules. Just the controls.

This is usually how I play. I often don't see anyone until the last few circles. It enjoy playing like this but I also feel it puts me at a disadvantage in some firefights because I don't get in them that often and am not as experienced in them as others near the endgame. So lately I've been trying to jump into a crowd and get into shootouts earlier. It's hard though to go against your instincts and I usually end up just hiding in a building lol.

At least in singleplayer you can exit right out and enter a new game immediately when you die

I usually play like that too. But the disadvantage is that you'll not have as good loot as the other remaining players, lowering your odds of winning.

This sounds amazing.

I know a member mentioned that they dreamt of a game like this as a teenager, I did too when I saw Battle Royale for the first time when I was around 14. I can't believe it's finally happening and it's as popular as I hoped back then.

I bought a thousand games between Black Friday and the Switch release that I still haven't played very much of
and yet
if it weren't for Mario Kart this would be the only game in my rotation

I'm glad I decided to bite on this. It's kind of like a fucked up cross between SOCOM and ArmA mods, but with a constant tension to it that I've only -ever- had matched by Arma sessions where I was fully aware of being surrounded by hostiles. And BG is like that all the time. Shit's great.

I think the only other multiplayer I've played that captures that visceral tension is The Last of Us.

Frankly i felt far more tense and adrenalinised in many Last of Us games, but Battlegrounds is much larger, more chaotic, and easier.

Siege good too, but faster than either.

Battlegrounds is really great.

Is there a single 1st person only custom server in existence? Every time i look at the custom server list it's just a bunch of garbage, for whatever reason.

Anyone else having terrible server lag right now??? Using NA servers.

Had one laggy round on NA, but it smoothed over for next.

Absurd how NA servers are better for EU based players than EU servers, but here we are.

Only streamers can host custom lobbies currently so they are what they feel like them being. Every now and then there is 1st person only lobby without other modifiers.

EU is smoother for me almost every time. I can actually open and close doors behind me quickly unlike when I play on NA servers.

This game needs .50 BMG weapons - had an AWM but apparently .300 mag wasn't enough to penetrate the frying pan the guy was carrying.

I wanted to see how small the circle got so I played as passive as possible. And man, as soon as I drove into the tiny circle about six people I couldn't see unloaded onto my jeep. Then a guy stepped in front of my jeep and sniped me through the windshield before scurrying off into the bushes. I wanted to see their stand off at the end.

Its the only way I've had any real longevity as well. However I worry that the lack of looted good weapons puts you at a disadvantage in late game.

Also trying to spawn away from everyone else usually means on the outskirts somewhere and the area reduction has got me a few times because of that.
