PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

The most incredibly weird set of duo rounds tonight.

-Died inches outside the blue in the Top 10 because the game hitched and it looked like the blue stopped a second before it actually did.

-Partner was killed at the very start of the round, actually made it by pure luck into the one house remaining in the semi-final circle as nearly everyone killed each other in a massive battle outside, died at team rank #2.

-Killed a bunch of dudes in the apartment buildings near the school and discovered the amazing prone reload animation for the double barreled shotty. Squadmate knocks me out while in the motorcycle sidecar with their Vector, they insisted that on their screen they were never aiming at me, they get popped trying to revive me.

-Was looting and was terrified when I found an AFK player inside a building who I thought was my squadmate until I looked up and realized the hair was different (we killed her with pans), then did a bunch of city fighting in Polyana. I deflected a gunshot by swinging a pan when I meant to pull out a grenade, then I tried to cancel my grenade when my intended target was killed, then it blew up in my hand and knocked me out. We managed to survive but were stuck in a courtyard wall corner with the blue right behind us, except for a single crumbled section of wall you could hop over from the top of a car. Squadmate gets shot, I manage to knock out their attacker with a Vector before being hit also trying to jump over.

Im interested in buying this, but Im very skeptical due to wherever it's fun playing online without friend and how barebone the gameplay is.

Let's say I feel lucky I never bought DayZ and got H1Z1 for 5$.

It's still pretty fun solo, but yeah Duo's and Squad are much better with people you know.

I play solo often. It's very fun, although as with any online game, you'll sometimes get a run of a few games where you get wrecked and it becomes more annoying than fun.

But then you'll make it to top 5 and it's clutch af and you'll remember why you love it.

The best thing is that it's Early Access with a very definite release date and it's going to improve very quickly and in substantial ways. I think there's at least one new map incoming.

Already have 49 hours sunk into this game. Considering the price, it's well worth it imo.
Game will only get better with time.

I disagree. I think this is the best time to play, when everything is new and fresh and people haven't figured out all the 'right' things to do.

Just like DayZ. Great for the first few weeks, then got shit.

Still worth playing during the early period alone though.

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
my friends and i are thinking of picking this up

is there controller support?

is there a "meta" set of unlocks that you get over multiple games (cosmetics, gear, etc)?

There are no right things to do, I see people listing strategies when I've won or lost in every possible way. Getting the best loot or being in the middle of the circle isn't always gonna give chicken dinner, having a bad start and having to kill your way out of the drop zone doesn't mean you ain't going to eat at the end of the round either. The game is highly unpredictable, which is why it keeps my interest.

That plus new animations, new weapons, new maps and optimization is only going to make the game better. As of now, the game's performance is a huge turn off for many.

Dk about controllers, but yes only meta unlocks are cosmetics based on loot boxes.
.full game will have microtransactions for them

Don't think I would have anticipated the asian adoption to the game. I knew there was a good sized asian GTAV player base, but wouldn't have guessed battle royale since H1Z1 never seemed to make a dent.

do beta unlocks carry over to the full game?

It's essentially guaranteed since items are tied into the Steam market. Only thing I imagine them to reset once live are maybe leaderboards.

After the game crashed on me twice, and having to verify folder, restart pc, turn off any overclock I finally got a chicken dinner... TWICE IN A ROW! Thanks of course to gaffers!

I jumped over a desk to camp when my character did the falling animation and died. Ugh. I've only been stuck in the environment 2 other times in 30 hours of play, so not too bad. Sucks when you're on a roll, though.

It's surprisingly harder with teams too. You get constantly flanked either by a squad or by multiple squads converging. But it's way more exhilarating and rewarding to win a match. Like that one that ended in a field with all of us alive (except mere_immortals early game sacrifice).

yeah I find squads a lot harder too. there's rarely ANYONE that's completely alone, so you cannot really engage people the same way as duo's or solo, so you have to be very strategic in how you approach the engagement or even just the game in general. Very fun though

I've been watching stylishnoob (Japan) a lot, the guy is a total beast. The way he'll casually wipe and control an entire hot area of the map is immense.

It can be hit or miss, but I mean, you're playing with 100 people on a huge map. Networking in this game has more challenges than a game of Counter-Strike.
There have been other games doing similar player counts. The network issues are comlpletely inexcusable. Hell, the game quickly falls down to a small number of players and still has the network issues.

H1Z1 is very popular in China.. until recently NA servers have been filled with Chinese players - often more than NA players in a single game.

Aw fudge, I had one my best and most fun rounds yet but I screwed it up at the end.

Last ~20 I managed to off a guy with my silenced M16. Looted his corpse and got a silenced SKS. Spent a good amount of time on a hill sniping at people with the SKS (man is it hard to aim with this thing). Even took down a poor guy like 400 meters away who kept crawling around while I spent like 30 bullets on him. When the circle got smaller I ran up to nearest jeep and just drove right down into it. Another guy was in the middle of the circle proned right next to his jeep. I drove past him, did a quick U-turn and smashed him against his own jeep forming a smaller barricade of the 2 cars. People were dying everywhere, but I managed to kill a guy sneaking up on me and another guy right next to me hiding behind a stone. Saw suddenly that it was just 2 left. Heard a car and thought that he must be driving around in it. Ran up, saw the car moving (though it kind of lagged in a weird way) and started shooting into it. 3-4 seconds later I'm dead. He wasn't in the car, it was bugged and I just gave the other guy a free win. Oh well fun match.

Edit: Forgot another really fun part of that match. I started off at the edge of the map far away from the circle. So after looting some decent stuff I decide to take a motorbike thought the woods. Suddenly I hear gunfire right ahead and jump off the bike. Just as a sneak up I'm treated to a jeep coming right towards me. I start shooting at it in panic and it crashes into a tree. The driver steps out but gets killed from someone behind. I see the killer coming up around the car and take a few shots. He runs out of sight but I manage to sneak around and take him out from behind. Just a random crazy fun event.

You've never seen people fight the Red Army in h1z1? It gets pretty crazy

Jesus, had a match where I ran around for like 15 minutes with only a pistol, looting like 10 houses finding nothing but more pistols. Ended up getting killed by someone with a M16 who I had no chance against even with a lvl3 head and lvl2 body.

This game is really something, just nearly had a heart attack from getting shot by a guy hiding in a random bathroom just outside the zone, thought I was totally alone! I killed him but he managed to get a Molotov away which killed me after he had died so we both went down in a burning bathroom in the end.

It's so tense every time right now, I'm loving it.

YUS!

Closed circle, I hid behind a crate, he in the grass. He made the first move and payed dearly for it. The UMP did me well this round.
Fun fact about the match, I was away for like 10 minutes showering at the start of it and still alive when I came back xD.

So has anyone actually ran into hackers? I feel like it's inevitable yet I'm surprised I have yet to encounter one.

Not hackers but I often ran into very obvious lagswitchers. Terrible really since it's SO easy to do, but the game trusts the client too much so it gives them a huge advantage.
