PLAYERUNKNOWNS BATTLEGROUNDS Early Access Thread: This Is Battle Royale

It's a pretty common thing to do in PC competitive games, for better framerate and to remove effects and complexity that make it more difficult to spot enemies.

It's also a thing I very much hate. I basically have to look at an even shittier version of the world (which isn't much of a looker to begin with) because of this.

Where's all the pc master race bullshit 4k@120fps all of sudden? Oh no, I can get an extra kill so I'm playing in 640*480 EVGA kthxbye.

You can play it at 4k/120 fps if you want, just turn down foliage and post process k ?

The 640x480 comment is just plain stupid though.

FFS, not my day today, think I'm safe as possibly nobody in the area I am, and I get shot out of nowhere.

I think I need to really turn foliage down.

high framerate and resolution help visibility way more than turning down foliage settings so this is wrong

Man, I had two chicken dinners last week and last two days I can't shoot a goddamn thing. Got a couple kills running people over, but any time I'm face to face with someone I just get wrecked.

The only things I can think of that give you a noticeable advantage the shadow and texture settings. Very low shadows means that some areas are brighter than normal and lower textures make the ground look like a potato so players stand out more. I guess ver low foliage/render distance helps to see people really far away, but that doesn't really help much.

What does post processing do and how does turning it down help? I've played around with it while trying to improve frame rate but haven't noticed much of a difference. Turning anti aliasing all the way up seems to have the biggest effect on giving me a sharp vibrant image quality.

Unrelated but is anyone else getting an occassional very brief flashing screen since the last patch? Happens at least a few times every game for me. It's like the screen flickers or flashes bright white for a split second and then goes back to normal.

We had a squad game end like I've never seen before. 15 people alive, our full 4 man squad alive as well. The circle is still relatively large, maybe 300 meters in diameter. Our squad is sitting at the top of a hill overlooking the white, which is wide open farmland, no houses or cover aside from grass and shrubbery. We see people moving all over the place. Left, right, everywhere except the white circle. And we just open fire, none of us are even bothering calling out targets because there are so many. It goes on for 1.5 minutes or so, and I get a kill as the blue is coming in forcing us to move, and we are all shocked that the game just ends. Somehow no one was in the white circle at all, everyone fighting on edges of the largest final circle I've ever seen. What a weird game...

Damn man I just want to get one. I get a couple top tens in a row, start feeling good and go on a run where I can't get out of the top 50.

Geting better with the guns, but I am still struggling with visibility and spotting opponents in time. Had a couple of t5s fall apart bc I just couldn't spot someone in that split second before they saw me.

I need to get in on a squad game or atleast a duos game. I am guessing there is a gaf group for pubg too?

Yeah, shadows is the one I set for visibility. There are places in the military base for instance that are extremely dark with high shadows but with low, the room is brightly lit. I have a mixture of settings for fps though. Effects seems to be the biggest offender. I have a 1080ti and a 5820K @ 4.2 Ghz and I was getting 10-20 fps in a game with rain when I set effects to high. In other circumstances the setting was fine but something with that setting combined with the rain destroyed my performance even though GPU and CPU were hardly being utilized and ram/vram were not a concern. Some weird bottleneck somewhere in some unoptimized effect.

Has PU given any kind of timeframe for when the window jumping, vaulting, and other parkour stuff comes in?

Not really, other than it's ways off. I look forward to it but I guarantee it's going to introduce some insane bugs early on.

Turning it up gives it that vaseline smeared look on my screen and gives some serious CPU load.
I turned it to very low, game looks better and 10 fps gained.

Walking while crouched most likely is quietest.
What I thought, thanks.

Interesting aspect that any movement makes noise. Audio is such a massive, massive part of this game. Everytime I'm looting a building and hear the floor creak from somewhere inside the house, every part of my body tenses up.

Stutterstepping barefout in a house is silent though.
Stutterstepping outside with boots seems silent ? Had it work a couple of times but sometimes it just doesn't.

Sound does have some bugs at times.

Wait, going barefoot is actually quieter in this game? Why even wear boots, then?

Also, sometimes when I switch weapons in a house I get the extra little rattle noise from the gun, and I freak out thinking someone is in the room with me, haha.

Barefoot is more quiet indoors, boots are better for outdoors.

The difference between boots and no boots is insignificant If anything not wearing boots just makes you stand out because the sound is very distinct and the majority of people just wear boots.

Uhm, that must be your system somewhere, I've played loads of rain maps on my 980Ti, 4690k with 16 Gb RAM and never had low FPS since day one of playing.

I play at 1080p ultra FWIW.

Man, this game is fun as fuck. Played probably 20 games since I bought it and have had 5 or 6 #1's with friends in a squad. I still am absolutely horrid in a fire fight but at least know what to look for when fighting at a distance now. I feel like 1v1 close up standoffs are complete crapshoot though unless you have a shotty. Also I think I was oneshotted with a fucking bop to the head by the frying pan once. Probably the most hilarious death so far.

It only happened in a single round and I dropped the setting down. It could have been a memory leak after playing for sometime or maybe an effect extremely impacted by resolution since I play at 1440p. I don't know. I set it to low when they had flash bang crashes when effects was set to high. I set it back to high that day played several rounds without issue and suddenly rain map and it went to complete shit. No exaggeration between 10 and 20 fps the whole round. I only stuck around because I didn't want to abandon the squad.

the items bought individually are under $15 at the moment. I never would have thought keeping the box would have made such a goddamn difference for digital items.

Effects on ultra (GTX 1080 at 1440p) kills my frame rate if I'm in or near the red zone. Goes from 70's-90's down into the 30's). I think I turned it down to medium. Everything else except shadows is currently high or ultra and I think my resolution scaling is at 110.

"PC Master Race" has always been about having the options to play how you want.

60€ for the box? Nice! Almost didn't bother to get the it but there was that Overwatch promo at the same time which I had to have. Not bad for free prime trial.
