Have you used PSN for long? People forget how much worse it was 4 years ago. With the influx of new systems, I'm surprised it has held up as well as it has. They certainly have been making improvements, but outside of completely rebuilding the network from the ground up, you aren't going to see any huge leaps.

I suppose, it's not going to sell multiple millions like Uncharted would, but the game's impact would have a secondary effect in terms of perception really. Having some widely received and varied games is always good for the platform.


Also weird omission from the PR I noticed, where's talk about Gran Turismo: Sport? I was left deflated after Paris Games Week with that announcement as a big GT fan, not hearing it being GT7 and I don't know what GT: Sport is at all really. I wanted more at PlayStation Experience but didn't get anything,

Agree. Multiplats are selling consoles more than exclusives. Hence why both MS and Sony are pushing more "console exclusives" than they ever have before -- the extra money in making a game a true exclusive is becoming less worth it these days.
 
Make the best platform and price it right, and this is what you get. Absolutely bonkers performance, and a great sign of industry health.

Awesome numbers, but I'm gonna have to agree with this. I have a decent gaming PC and have had one for years now, and it feels that more and more big console games get released on PC too, so there have been very few reasons to own either PS4 or Xbone so far.

Is it really going to reach 50M by the end of FY 2016 (End of March 2017)!? Because I'll say HOT DAMN if so.

It's going to reach way more than that - that's only 14M to go ... and they sold almost 5 M in one month ...

They're selling pretty much 18 million units a year at this rate. Console hasn't become significantly cheaper yet, no Uncharted, GT etc still. I guess its at 50 million this fall, perhaps before holidays.

PS3/360 was just the PS2 audience that was split in half. This gen, we know people who buy PS4's were also lapsed 360/Wii owners.

In 2014 I think someone at Sony said they didn't know why it was selling so well.
TBH it sounds like something Shu would say.
 
Aside from the network (and elite controller :p) it's the superior console in nearly every way.

Well deserved.

Their lineup in 2016 is so solid, it might even be better than the Ones incredible 2016 lineup.

So, can't see it slowing down any time soon.

Well deserved result, achieved without a single major AAA franchise title. In 2016 we'll finally see - amongst others - Uncharted and Gran Turismo, and of course PSVR. Nothing will stop this train from reaching 50 million units by the end of 2016.

Keep in mind that 5.7 million also includes the Black Friday sales, which are already included in the November NPD results. December NPD results will include Cyber Monday sales though. Either way, I don't see it being higher than 1.7 million.

30.2 million is for the third week of November, so, not Black Friday week.

5.7 million is Black Friday + December.

IS likely that PS4 has sold AT LEAST one million WW during Black Friday ( and most likely 1.5m or so), that's mean PS4 sales in December are almost for sure under 5 million.

1/3 of 5 million is < 1.7 million, in short, 2 million in the NPD won't happen.

It'll definitely do more than 50 million LTD (that's SNES's number) and 60 million LTD (NES number), so the only question marks are Wii, PS1 and PS2 tbqh

I own a PC as well and have managed to play quite a few games on my PS4 this year.
