i think the expectation is that xbone won march. i mean, it's the month when their biggest game dropped.

is it just me or did ea/respawn never use the "from the creators of call of duty..." sales pitch on any ads?
I think GameStop used it, if I remember correctly.

I'm going to guess Xbone is lagging behind PS4 by not an insignificant margin, it was pretty much expected to keep pace or even surpass PS4 for the month considering Titanfall. Can't think of other reasons to run for the hills.

Either this or they did even better than expected.....or the Wii U flopped to unprecedented levels.

It has to be this. No one is going to be surprised by big MS sales. They released their biggest exclusive, bundled into into the freaking box, and had retailers practically fire-selling them.

Either PS4 outsold XB1 by an insane margin like January or vice versa. Those are the only two bunker worthy outcomes.

Big accomplishment for Sony. The PS4 is really off to a fantastic start - 20.5 million games sold is great news for developers and publishers.

I'm expecting PS4 to sell XB1 or at least be very close behind.

XB1 probably sold about 350k-ish in NA. I'm expecting PS4 to have done 400k or above.

If the PS4 outperforms the XB1 in March US sales, then something has gone terribly wrong for Microsoft at retail.

The high amount of price cuts, bundles, in-store promotions, online coupons, banner ads, TV ads etc. for Titanfall and the XB1 should have been more than enough to give the XB1 a big sales advantage over the PS4. In fact, I would honestly be surprised if the PS4 sold half as well as the XB1 in March.

Bunker scenarios:
- Xbox/TF sales surpassing most estimates, US sales gap closing up
- PS4 outselling Xbox by a significant margin, meaning TF, bundles, and price cuts were all for naught

-Wii U outsold both PS4 and XB1 because people are getting "real" hyped for Mario Kart 8

I think it's possible that the XB1 has outsold the PS4 by a lot because of that aggressive Titanfall bundle which is like 100 $ less (50$ game and 50$ price cut) than a XB1 and Titanfall bought seperately.

Interesting times.

Did those sales happen in March or early April?

No one I know seems to be pumped enough for Mario Cart to buy a Wii U so I doubt it.

Are we sure this bunker stuff is related to NPD? I mean NPD results shouldn't be available to anyone for at least 14 hours.

Could just be info he's heard from around the industry that could be reflected one way or another in tomorrow's NPD numbers.

as an owner of PS4 since day one. i am really happy for this news. at least this will give developers more push to create amazing games on the PS4 due to the high sales.

however, as a recently "since yesterday only" i am an Xbox one Owner, i want this console also to sell very good.

at the end of the day, i do not get a single cent out of those sales annoucment. but i do want to get my awesome games. whatever that console is.

PS4 can sell 200 million for all i care, i want my good games. where are they ?

also, i know this is very selfish. but i LOVE exclusive games. like,, i really do. i hate multplatform games. they don't take the console power to the extreme. all my games aside from COD "PS4" are exclusive games. Infamous, Forza 5, Titan Fall and KI are all exclusives. i want to see more of those games.

That was my first thought at the bunker pic but Sony increased supply in March and I still rarely ever see PS4 on store shelves. It's hard to believe MS could have outsold them by a large margin.

I have a feeling the X1 outsold the PS4 but it will be by a much slimmer margin then most would imagine with the X1s biggest title till Halo in 2015 releasing.

Could be wrong of course, just got that feeling.

That wouldn't explain the bunker, since most people are expecting that.

i want to ask, is Halo a system seller? i do not know how many Xbox 360s were sold when Halo 4 was released, or Halo 3. was it big difference ?

because i assume people buy Xbox before Halo is out because they will know they will get a Halo one day. same reason why would someone buy a Playstation because he assume he will get a GT game for example.

Good for Sony.

Luckily, I'm one of the few that couldn't care less about the NPD numbers since there's so much more to happen so early on in a new generation. If MS outsold Sony, good for them because they SHOULD HAVE with their biggest exclusive coming out in a bundle, retailers dropping prices, etc. If Sony outsold MS, then it's nothing new and the trend continues.

I would be surprised if MS struggled in March, but I also sit there and wonder why retailers would start doing deals on the X1 if it was selling well? It just seems counter-productive to lose money if it was selling anyway just like how we don't see PS4 deals.

It's interesting but nothing to get heated over. I'm interested in business in general, but I don't feel like I should enlist in this console war because war changes people.

They should probably have waited a little bit longer before announcing this, in case Xbox won the NPD numbers, which is very possible considering the Titanfall launch.

We'll theoretically that would be the reason as to why they announced this now, to soften the blow of losing NPD tomorrow (loss U.S for one month but showing that they are still dominating worldwide).

Bish posting a bunker is suggesting that there will be a megaton so who knows now.

if they did that, it would be damage control. but they say it now to impress. so when the numbers of march are out, people will downplay it as not a big deal and will point at how awesome the PS4 is selling

Realistically, is there any chance for Sony to sell more units on the NPD? How is their stock situation? If I'm reading it right there are units around if you want to order from Amazon but stores are still sold out.

Xbox seems to be in stock everywhere and retailers are lowering prices to dump units that aren't moving. That and the bundle with Titanfall and a pricedrop seem to move some units. And it's up to the legs of Titanfall to move units in the coming months.

So regardless of how well they sell the thing to take away is: PS4 can't sell that many more, Xbox can sell a whole lot more.

Anything but the X1 winning hardware is going to be seen as a disaster for a number of reasons. Losing by a single console would be bunker time for many. If there's a single month the entire year--Actually, until further notice if we get some Microsoft exclusives with release dates--It was going to be March, and was before all the bundling and other deals that got tossed around come into consideration.

Titanfall winning on software wouldn't be unexpected but I think it faces some legitimate competition from Second Son, Ground Zeroes (total) and FFX/X-2. The X1 massively outperforming the PS4 wouldn't be entirely surprising but I can appreciate why it'd be seen as a something of a shock. It getting tossed into a bundle where it won't count here will skew things.

Anecdotal evidence from Amazon shows their Titanfall bundle has sold roughly the same number of units as the "standard" X1 console for this calendar year. If you added January + February = March console sales you've got perhaps 600k? At the same time, the PS4 has had better stock but it's impossible to even guess what kind that actually meant until hard numbers. Would be a little surprised with the X1 at 500k+ but not shocked. But I'll agree, that would count as a "bunker scenario" for many as well. I'll be eating popcorn in the NPD thread but I'm more curious as to the overall global situation now with a round of bigger titles having dropped.

Truth is Xbox should win March. Microsoft was basically giving away free copies of TitanFall. No one should be surprised by that.
