Realistically, is there any chance for Sony to sell more units on the NPD? How is their stock situation? If I'm reading it right there are units around if you want to order from Amazon but stores are still sold out.

Xbox seems to be in stock everywhere and retailers are lowering prices to dump units that aren't moving. That and the bundle with Titanfall and a pricedrop seem to move some units. And it's up to the legs of Titanfall to move units in the coming months.

So regardless of how well they sell the thing to take away is: PS4 can't sell that many more, Xbox can sell a whole lot more.

Sony is selling ~1M PS4s per month (worldwide) so while their stock is questionable in some places, Sony is pumping out systems at a very rapid pace.

The issue MS is running into is that people aren't buying the XB1. They appear to have done an amazing job with supplying retail channels as well but their systems aren't selling to consumers as quickly as PS4s are.

So while it's true that PS4s can be hard to come across and XB1s are readily available, there's a sizable difference in the demand for the two systems and thus far, PS4 has been outselling XB1 nearly everywhere.

The popular theory is that Titanfall will have given the XB1 enough of a boost in the states to win NPD for March (likely a one time bump). We'll see tomorrow whether or not that is the case.

Nobody would be surprised at March being won by the Xbox one or Titanfall coming first so this suggests either 2 things

1) Microsoft did win but by an amazing amount
2) Microsoft didnt win

I think it has to be number 2. I don't think ANYONE would be surprised if the XB1 sold tremendously the past month given they released a MONSTER hyped up game AND gave it away with every console (on top of the other great bundles they had).

Personally I think XB1 outsold the PS4 by a substantial margin in the US, which probably prompted the Sony 7 million announcement.

Great success for Sony, they are really selling well. Situation in the stores [especially in EU] is still not perfect, but summer is arriving. Situation should stabilize by E3 and then remain good through summer months.

Pointless dreaming but if they can hit 10 million by E3 - that would make for a nice feather in the presentation cap.

E3 is just ~6 weeks away. Realistically they can hit 8 mil with the help of MLB 14, Wolfenstein and Watch_Dogs [8.5m if the sales are VERY good].
