I like exclusives like Bloodborne. Games that simply wouldnt be possible without Sony's funding. FF7 and FF16 though? I dont know. Square Enix would make those games regardless and make a bajillion dollars from them.
It seems Sony has let Ueda slip away which sucks. I really hope it's an "extra" game we are getting from either Platinum games, Kojipro (MGS), Capcom or From Software. Something Sony fully funded and said hey, we want this as a playstation IP from your talented studio. here is a blank check.
I too prefer them using their money to fund stuff which isn't going to be made, but at the end of day, buying exclusivity is a lot easier than building one. Timed exclusives are a necessary evil because games just take so much time to be made.
Sony will always have exclusives from 3rd party, BloodBorne, Until Dawn, Order 1886, Detroit, Death Stranding. I'm missing some names but there will be a fair share of Sony funded exclusives from 3rd party. They lost Ueda, but his games will still come to their platform. It's time for perhaps some new projects from different studios. Let's see what it is. I think BloodBorne II will be made this gen, Sony should be keen but maybe they don't want to meddle with that IP without Miyazaki involvement who is a very busy man. Perhaps, after Elden Ring? I doubt Kojima is touching Metal Gear ever again, his next project is a horror game. Let's see if Sony have somehow miraculously resurrected that Silent Hills from Konami.
Sony generally make the game which fans want, The Last Guardian would've been longed canned by any other publisher but they finished it. The interest in new BloodBorne and Silent Hills project has been high for number of years, so there's hope in them pulling some strings to make it happen next-gen.
