PlayStation 5 [OT] Taking Over The World One SSD At A Time

OHHHH PLOT TWIST. Not Guerilla games but San Diego studios?? Kind of makes sense as that has some Naughty Dog employees. Uncharted multiplayer exp would benefit a Socom game. As that is 3rd Person.

Hmmm... San Diego.

That's an interesting theory. It would explain why they hired so many devs with a background in multiplayer games as well as some others who worked on cinematic action games - obviously hinting at a story mode. Although I still doubt that it will be a launch game. 2021 sounds more plausible.

Nope.

Could it happen? I suppose.

Do I think its going to happen?

Okay, I raise you a question, HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 . Do you believe the system contains technology more advanced than RDNA2, as they claim it does? Does that narrow the power gap moreso than anything they could do revision-wise?

Just curious. Anybody can really answer that who is tech savvy.

Like I said, America Fuck Yeah! kind of games where you are a modern day soldier killing terrorists and evil Russians/Nazis just doesn't do it for me.

To be fair, many of us did quite the opposite in online mode playing as the 'terrorist'...they had the PM mines. In retrospect though, the 'terrorist' plot post 9/11 was very cliched and based on prejudice.

Thats honestly above my pay grade.

This is 100% rumor so take it for what its worth.

I have heard more then once and this goes back quite some time now that Sony gave up some brute power to be slightly more advanced.

Again, mountains of salt with this.

I think the holes in the back could be to remove the "shell"

Sounds like something APU related. Less CUs in exchange for something else.....

Hmmm that I/O is taking up plenty of space on the die plus that GE as well.

Interesting though.

It corroborates with everything we've been hearing about the PS5's APU rumours and how it incorporates features from future AMD roadmaps, specifically RDNA 3. But I guess it's all still in the realm of leaks and speculation.

Not going to spoil it but there is a 2nd ending to the game you get after "beating" the game for finishing a certain story line. Your gonna be abit like 👀

Yeah, don't you need to just drive around for a little while after beating the game to get to that?

I've been thinking about this a bit.... and they already manage 15 or 16 studios, I think adding too many would possibly lower quality and impact budgets.

So my thinking now is to buy a larger publisher that other platforms are used to getting games from..... make most of their games exclusive or timed and push the FOMO on PC and other platforms.

Zenimax is profitable on it's own, so they could just let them work away with minimal interference and selling on PSN would give them bigger profits as they would be 1st party.

Other cheaper target would be Kadokawa (From parent company)

Kadokawa would net them From, which to me, would be about as big as acquiring all of Bethesda! ha!

I liked those rumors about Sony scooping up Remedy. While they definitely have a very “safe” relative-to-Sony’s current 1st party FEEL, I think that’s exactly what Remedy needs to finally get the love and budget/backing to be Recognized.

I believe they’ll go for Bluepoint though. That’s my guess if I had money on something. It would be an good acquisition too. Versatile and capable studio.

I don’t think Sony should buy either Bluepoint or Remedy right now.

Buying a studio is effectively buying the assets of that studio - office equipment. The staff can come and go as they please. Buying bluepoint wouldn’t guarantee Sony keeps that studio at its current quality of output - in fact it often goes the other way. A lot of the people there may not want to work for Sony and up and leave.

Same for Remedy...

Buying IPs is valuable though. So I can see a strategic purchase if they come with a studio, but just buying a studio is pointless - Sony can hire the staff from those places direct if they’re interested in working for Sony.

In the meantime, contracting out to bluepoint is cheaper than buying them, it mitigates development risk and allows Sony to pick and choose when to spend money on them and when to cut them loose.

Now buying into something like Bethesda would indeed net some IPs for Sony so that might make sense.

But Sony have a lot of quite popular IPs that they don’t produce content for right now and they have studios creating successful new IPs.

So really you’ve got to wonder what Sony would gain from any acquisition at this stage when they could be renewing their existing IPs with the cash.

Maybe they’d buy their way into the PC free to play space and that’s what Leyou seemed to offer - perhaps there are other acquisition targets in this space.

Other than that I think Sony keeps their money in the bank for now. They may acquire Housemarque - especially if they believe Returnal will be a hit. That’s about the only move I can see at this stage.

I've never bought one of Sony's gaming headsets before. This one that's specifically made for the PS5, how much do we think it'll cost? More than $100?

Bluepoint has yet to prove they can ship an original idea. So in that regard sorry but I rather have Remedy and I don't even like Remedy (enjoyed Control however). But if they are cheap who gives? I'll take From Software though, no doubt about that any day of the week. All that team needs is a good programming staff shipped from Europe and America to Japan, translators included.

I was wondering the same thing. It's always the price that's put me off headphones and it'll kill me if I have to fork out $130 or so. But I probably will just to see how much difference it makes.

I'd love some way to have it easily hook up to my TV too. It should be possible to connect to an XBox controller via the 3.5mm jack, so that's 2 of my use cases covered. I suppose I could run a long headphone cable to the TV ...

Looks like some sort of access to a reset button? They are meant to be firmware upgradable this time.

Replying to myself! Was just comparing PS4 controller to new shots of PS5 controller and noticed PS4 controller has this small hole too! It's for resetting the controller when it won't sync/respond etc.

This is a really good point. I agree! It is more a of purchase of the IP/Talent than just buying an office space. To your point this is why we may see more FF7R and Death Loop deals style deals. The dreaded 3rd Party Exclusive!

To me, Insomniac’s purchase was largely symbolic. Like the couple who’ve been basically together forever and go - AH FUCK IT LETS JUST GET MARRIED WHY NOT. I’m sure there was incentive built into that deal that kept Ted Price at the helm for X years, as his leadership is likely such a key to their success.

for Sony, and I’m sure this sounds kind of dopey, I think they may look at purchasing studios as a way to bolster PlayStation Studios. Just buying bigger names that have talent inside - therefore locking in that talent with the purchase of a marquee studio like a Remedy or a Bluepoint - almost nets them an investment in them being able to say - LOOK WHAT WE HAVE HERE AT SONY. and, if the wave of the future is basically giant mega-publishers, then no matter what Sony wants with console generations, building up a chunky stable of OWNED studios with known IP - From or Bethesda -Or the investment of studios that can Shepard and create new ones - Bluepoint or Housemarque - are key to that overall image.

I'd really love to see how Bluepoint do with a brand new IP. They've more than shown their chops in the remaster space. Very talented studio.

I think I'm gonna dig days gone, thanks for pushing me to play it Bo_Hazem Bo_Hazem

I think I'm gonna really dig the gameplay loop.. started on Hard and like the challenge. The writing is so terrible but I'm getting a laugh out of it so there's that lol

Sony needs to stop making us follow people in games though... lol.. becoming one of my pet peeves. But at least with Days Gone they give you the option to skip it it seems some of the time.

Don't jump to conclusion this fast, and don't skip cutscenes. Enjoy, thank me later. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I haven't skipped anything... yet..

But it's not just the cut scenes I find laughable, it's all the little things the dude says/does. The gruff tough guy voices, the swearing.. it's just funny to me and I don't think it's purposeful lol, also some of the dialog is just bad in general.

I think there could be one more point about 3rd party exclusives. Yeah people hate them but ...

There is a console market and while the PS5 and Xsex have similar amounts of gpu and cpu power and VRAM, there is a big disparity in SSD performance and throughput - more than 100% difference based on current published specs.

As a multiplat dev what do you do? Easiest is designing and coding for the common denominator and make games that run on all platforms pretty much identically. That means ignoring the enhanced capabilities that the PS5 SSD solution may offer, not to mention dual sense and the tempest engine.

But Sony don’t want that - they want games that work to their console’s strengths regardless of whether they’re 3rd party or not. They want a string of third party games that look like the Epic UE5 demo because that will drive hardware sales

Moneyhatting 3rd parties is one way to get games focused on using the PS5 HW and assuming they’re timed exclusives, leave the problem of porting/supporting multiple hardware levels for later.

The same happens in reverse of course with those timed exclusives on Xsex eventually going the other way.

That’s true!

PS5’s SSD - from what I can tell - is kind of overlooked in the discussions about power v power of these new consoles. It seems the disparity here between them with RAW power is arguably minimal; while the SPEED between them is much more vast.

that alone may be enough to get devs to focus on PS5, regardless of monies being offered.
