PlayStation 5 share in France vs Xbox reaches 93% vs 7%

So we know Spain is a wash.
France is a wash.
Japan is a wash.

We also know that the gap in sales is growing rapidly in the US and the UK.

Any other reports?

I didn't expect things to get like this. I expected a comfortable PS5 'win' everywhere but this feels like a bloodbath.
UK is a wash too apparently.

I read a conspiracy theory that Europeans are silently boycotting Xbox due to MS large publisher acquisitions. EU citizens have rejected Xbox hardware since the One release but the twisting of the knife was still slow. But after the acquisitions, the knife twist have accelerated, sales have totally collapsed and no one is even looking at Xbox anymore.

All of the tings you listed are based on your personal preferences/needs, evidently most other people don't care about them and there are other platforms that they've found that suit their needs and preferences better.

Owning all platforms doesn't prevent you having a distorted/biased view towards things or from being a fanboy.

If you feel the need to preface your opinion with "I'm not a fanboy" then we likely aren't off to a very good start anyway.

But to answer your question on a deeper level, catering your product and it's marketing to local cultures is a thing, it's very important and it's something Xbox have never got to grips with very well anywhere that they operate outside of countries that are partial to an "Anglo/American" approach. It's actually something I didn't realise first hand until I moved away from the UK.
Also I see people constantly diminishing the importance of Xbox games launching day 1 on PC ... xbox has ZERO exclusives... all their games are out on PC since last gens ... and with console hardware being more close to a mid-low PC it boggles my mind any hardware company cannibalizing their hardware sales by supporting another platform. (I know that pc is windows and therefore microsoft either) but Im talking about the XBOX division here.

I can pretty much guarantee that if sony started releasing their games on PC day 01 it would eat a lot of ps6 sales , I would not buy the ps6 if I could play sony FP on pc .. shit even with 1 year later games realeases and I am already starting to think to go Pc only nextgen

Well that's what it is, a conspiracy theory. I can tell you as a french/european no one gives a shit. Acquisitions are a thing for people on forums like this one.

Those "tiny markets" combine to a massive market, one of the most important ones. You have America, Asia and Europe.

In Asia Xbox is non existent, in Europe it's almost non existent and in America it's in the third place...
Maybe Africa, Australia, South America, the North Pole and the South Pole make up the difference...

What are we talking about here? Just over a million consoles total between them BOTH is maybe 1% of the gaming market, probably less. 1 million consoles is 2% of playstations market share. This is such a nothing story. Xbox outsold Playstation 4:1 in my household, make a thread on that cause my numbers are just as relevant. I don't like either console this gen, but come on, quit acting like these numbers mean anything. Nobody cares about France.
I bet that 1 is laughing really fucking hard right now and locking his ps5 away from you all

PS4 sold over 6 million in France and Switch crossed 7 million there last year. Its a significant market.

The acquisition has been bad PR from the start. Specially at a time when people see corporations as individuals. Buying full-on publishers just looks desperate and neurotic. It puts people off.

Oh fuck off :D :D

Your household is what nobody cares about... You are now placing 1 household over an entire country...... Yeah, GTFO with that bullshit. Had a good laugh though. As did many with me I think.

UK is a wash too apparently.

Just to give a small amount of context to what the real situation might be like in the UK. I have a contract mobile with the biggest UK provider, 2 years ago when I upgraded I got 2 Series S for free as part of a mid-tier package. This month I downgraded to a sim-only deal and got 2 years of GamePass Ultimate bundled in with an even cheaper contract.

They have to be subsidizing the hell out of the UK market still.

And people are wondering about Xbox marketing in Europe. What's the point with such big marketshare difference? it is like 10x difference. No wonder they wanted ABK with its heavy PC (Blizzard) and mobile (King) revenue streams. Now post ABK it does not matter anymore as PC + mobile represented (in 2022 for example) 56% of the gaming market in France for example. Plus Playstation folks will work hard in COD mines from this moment going forward :messenger_rocket:

It makes me wonder who these people think they are kidding at this point.

Maybe the only reason they're still beating that old drum is to kid themselves.

Saying something is a “wash” means that things are equal or that no side has a distinct advantage. I don’t think that’s what you meant here.

As I see it, in winnning position PlayStation is putting out mediocrity. In losing position, Xbox is putting out experimental products that may knock one out of the park like Hi-Fi Rush. I do not think consoles are going to exist in two generations as younger players are predominantly mobile/portable gamers. (*I consider Nintendo Switch a portable.)

And it all makes sense.
Good Exclusives sell consoles - true... and sony is slowly botching it by releasing on pc.
Good gimmicks sell consoles - dualsense, 3d audio and vr
Good cool factor - xbox got none

360 was so fucking cool, I didn't even wanted to look at a ps3 at the time. I loved my 360. White, fat 360 was amazing looking console.
But xbox started botching it. Blades were amazing, NXE was still OK. But any dashboard after it was trash. Kinect was trash, avatars were lame, Slim 360 was never as good looking as original one, super slim was trash.
Retroactively, I think ps3 was a better console in a long run... that's how bad xbox one was. It made me ratroactively think less of even a 360.

Sony's plan doesn't eat into their console business at all. Their big single player games take a long time to come to PC.

Probably because Microsoft failed to destroy the PS5 when it came to specs. Which means the differences are not large enough that most would care about them.
They managed to basically match PS5 specs/performance this time with a simultaneous launch and same price (for the disc version at least) unlike the PS4/XboxOne situation, this is a positive. That is the initial disingenuous PR campaign which hurt them in the long term.
