PlayStation Network Launcher Could Be Coming To PC

Nintendo, if you want, I'm gonna install your poor launcher on my PC so I can buy all your interesting games on my favorite platform. Think about it ;)

Huh, I would have thought they might use the Epic Games Launcher considering how friendly the two companies have been.

You aren't getting synced saves without shelling out for PS+. That's a big difference between PlayStation and XBox. :(

Something I hope they correct at some point. It is beyond silly to have cloud game saves behind a paywall.

Worst case scenario and highly likely due to Sonys track record.

In typical Sony fashion for counties not in core regions like NA, Western Europe or Japan they will release a trash tier version of the service without regional pricing or local currency options.

Since they release PC ports at a snails pace not to piss off their console userbase they will never have a critical mass of content to lure PC gamers out of steam. (See Bethesda, Ubisoft, EA, epic launchers, MS Xbox live)

Their first party games will release as PSN PC exclusives. Selling 10 copies each. Sony will conclude there's no money to be made on PC.

Honestly I don't see why folks are so pumped up about this. Sony always half asses everything that is not development of AAA first party games for their home console (PS NOW, PS TV, PS2 games on PS4, PS Vita, SOE, backwards compatibility and more)

EDIT: Sony refund policy! Lack of cloud saves unless you paid?

What's there as a positive... Trophies??? Really?? Maybe I am too old school but I couldn't care less about that. Gaming was fine without that skinner box trash.

Only way I can see this having a small chance of success is by launching with a barrage of content right out the bat. Bloodborne and demons souls most of all but many other PS4, PS3 games as well

That doesn't necessarily mean that they're creating a launcher or store! most likely it will be just a client to link PC users with PSN so they can be counted as PSN users,
just like what Microsoft does with its games on Steam

Its great to be PC gamer these years(apart from crazy gpu prices lately). Consoles are X64 architecture, many PS/Xbox games are ported to PC,Xbox gamepass, cheap 144hz monitors, crazy good modding, huge steam growth,crossplay..

They can learn just like everyone else if it's not on Steam the majority will not buy.
And Sony can afford that, their main money maker psn will still be there. Considering the quality of Sony exclusives those who really want it will get it.

Sometimes I really wish if everything launched in Steam only!

I think the goal is releasing their games on both Steam, PS PC, and PS5. PS PC launcher would give you access to your save files across PS5/PC. That would be a plus, and imagine if you buy it once you own it and can download it through PS PC and on PS5.

To me thats the direction they should go.

Tall order for a company that strong armed a third party indie dev into matching their PSN game price on EGS. Fucking up PC gamers just because. (Salt and Sacrifice)

Hopefully just another launcher within Steam and EGS, like XBL for Microsoft's games. Sony recently confirmed that they will release more games on platforms like Steam and EGS.

Not another launcher. Of course they want their own storefront to cut out the middleman.

This probably doesn't have anything to do with opening their own storefront. Trophies synchronization and other online services just like every Xbox game on PC.

Discussion on a Playstation PC launcher is turning into the next evolutionary stage of cope now that Sony is clearly signaling a stronger multi-format strategy. Give it time and even Bryank75 will declare it a BIG WIN for Sony.

Will they do it? Probably, I'm guessing a basic store like EGS that'll struggle a few years to get wishlist and shopping cart features. That or a barebones "don't mind me, I'm only collecting metrics" launcher.

I REALLY don't want another launcher, but depending on how everything is handled, it could make sense. Utilizing trophies and then some. But we'll see. Of course I'd rather them just NOT go that route.

That's what I'm hoping this is. Incentivize buying Sony's games on playstation.com which grants both PC and PS licenses.
It could work over multiplatform games too, to me it would add a lot of value. I would pay a little bit more for Elden Ring on Sony's PC store if it meant it was also available on PS for me.

Or or and hear me out.

It could just be for integration into Steam/GOG/EGS games the way Xbox Games Studios games are integrated to XBL and Steam even if you purchase them on Steam.
It would make sense and let people who purchase on Steam to unlock achievements on steam and on their PSN account at the same time, and for Sony to have "control" over crossplay in their games.
As is right now Playstation Studios Games barely* acknowledge your PSN account.

P.S I think it will also be a launcher for PSPlus PC games that will be announced later in the century.

*They dont at all.

I think you are right. The job listing specifically says"PlayStation network Platform integration".

I don't care what they do as long as they don't start pulling epic store horseshit and money-hatting games already announced on steam to be exclusive.

Edit: It is a bad buisness decision on Sony. They are over-estimating how many PC-only players give a shit about 6 month old single player games with no marketing. I.e. If these games are not on steam no one will buy them. Not a problem for me but probably stupid on their part.

It's not perfect yet, but already MUCH better.
You are confusing "much better" with "accessible as a console" which are not the same. The price of a ps5 equivalent PC is at least 900 plus and that is just for the GPU(a mid ranged one) motherboard and a decent CPU. Even those parts will be second hand.

I was talking to a guy who could afford a PS5 + a XSX. He could sell both for ~1.1000 and for that price you can already get a nice pc. But whatever, all i wanted to say is that prices are dropping and they do. Right now you can get a 3080 for 899 Euro while it was ~1,8k in December/January..

I mean, their main focus is on the console and selling hardware and software on their own platform. Anything outside of that is just icing on the cake.

While this is good, what they really need to focus heavily is the PlayStation mobile division. I haven't seen much progress on that front.

For instance, TLOU 2 Factions, Destiny, Destruction All Stars, etc. should also have a F2P mobile port. They could rake in some serious cash with MTX.
A month or two ago they did buy the ones who made Fate/Grand Order, the mobile game that generates them $1B/year. They also have Fordwardworks, who is supposed to bring some PS IPs to mobile but as far as I remember they always made Japan only games and they didn't release a title since many time ago.

I'd keep away anything related to Destruction All Stars, or at least the one who decided to give the characters that ""cool"" Fortnite like vibe.

Regarding Factions 2, Destiny and future MP shooter yes, I'd make a F2P mobile version. They should acquire some dev to make them, probably someone like Gameloft or Scopely. I also think would be a good idea to acquire a big 3rd party like Square Enix who already is successful bringing their console IPs to mobile.

But I'd put also there more F2P casual (Singstar or Buzz) IPs and kid friendly (paid, not mtx) IPs like Loco Roco, Astro or Parappa, stuff that maybe could not be that profitable directly but that may help to expand the userbase reaching new audiences and demographics who maybe later can be converted into console customers.

And this is why people prefer pirating PC games because they have to deal with so many damn launcher. Having Steam, Battle.net and Epic Games is already overkill. Just put your damn games on Steam.

It's probably something that will run in the background. This was said recently, so it doesn't look like they are moving away from any major store:

"Yoshida also touched briefly on PlayStation's emerging PC business, company aims to "provide access to our games to as many users as possible" rolling out more PlayStation Studios titles onto storefronts like Steam and the Epic Games Store in the future."

Multiplatform is not Sony being 3rd party and bringing their games to Xbox....come on now

This is the obvious path to bring Plus to PC.

The entitlement to not click a program icon is hilarious

So the choice is you get Sony first party or you don't, you'll choose not to play those games?

Cause they are two separate launchers. Launching Cyberpunk on Steam opens a CDPR launcher that you then launch Cyberpunk from. It don't launch the GoG one.
Then there is a bunch of missing launchers on the list.

OP already admitted it was a mistake.
