PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | June 2014

damn, DW8 framerate on vita is really bad, this is barely playable/enjoyable for me :/

I am not sure if the rest is the same, but gamecatalog entry on Musou Orochi 2 Vita says that it is graphically inferior to Shin Sangoku Musou NEXT.

I wouldn't be surprised if the other games are the same.

So did I buy an incomplete game? Or just part 1 of 2? Ugh. Does Eternal Punishment go on sale as often as all the other Atlus games? Maybe I'll just play FFX-2.
Apologies if I just snuffed out your motivation, wasn't my intention. No, you definitely bought a complete game so no worries there. IS tells a complete narrative, but the consequences of IS feed into what transpires in EP.

So in the same way marathoning a season of television or parts one and two of a movie is enjoyable so is playing IS and EP back to back. By no means necessary, but enjoyable all the same.

Maybe if you play through P2:IS now by the time you're done you'll simply have no choice but to purchase P2:EP for $10 right away.

At least you didn't have to dig out a PS1 and play EP that way. Quite jarring to go from PSP to PS1 in a single duology.

Nope. I am not. I dislike everything about playing on mobile right now to be honest. The movement wheel is dumb. Picking actions is dumb. The art style is dumb. I think the actual font of the entire game is making me upset.
Yeah, sounds like you should cut your losses and look for another platform to play FFVI on.

Don't know about the quality of the FFVI mobile game itself, but those new sprites hurt my eyes.
Edit: Top of the page, buy Soul Sacrifice Delta and Project Diva f.

I agree. I think.
Trying to play Soul Sacrifice OG and I'll buy Project Diva f 2.

I don't want to come off as an elitist here, but so much of the art direction is lost in that Android port of FFVI. Are you sure you want to play it that way?
it's not elitist at all.

playing that version is a disservice to the game. more so than the PS1 version

I think most people absolutely dislike the Android ports with the weird smoothed out look, lol.

I can see them doing a 3D remake eventually though.

The sad thing is we've seen what S-E can do when they put in effort into a port as evident with the updated sprites of FF1, 2, 4 on the PSP. It's not just about upping the resolution of artwork either, but UI design and typographic choices etc.

As a designer it just leaves me disappointed that any one could see the Android ports and approve them for sale.

They know people will buy :/

Console games gone mobile tend to be pretty ugly... and those ones are pretty bad in general since all of the menus became touch screen friendly and just got all... blech.
And I'm not even against the idea of mobile ports, they're just a platform like any other. Having a touch interface doesn't mean your interface has to be ugly and yet time and time again we see poorly thought out, let alone executed, controls and menus and other aspects when translating console games to mobile. If anything those games should really be some of the best looking mobile games simply by virtue of their pedigree.

Small tangent, I haven't played it, but presumably the FFT:WOTL iOS port was pretty great?

Why?
don't bother with the OG
Why?!

Holy shit what the fuck? Persona 2 is a duology, FF6 Android and PS1 (apparently) suck, Soul Sacrifice OG isn't worth bothering with. Is there a single JRPG I can just buy once and just have the best experience with? This stuff is impenetrable. I shouldn't have to Google something to find out what's wrong with it. It should just be good and entirely complete.

There's a lot of things I don't like about Soul Sacrifice. It's confusing menu systems, the spell systems, it's visual fidelity. But it's slowly, forcefully, growing on me. What's it about Delta that's so much better?

The Legend of Heroes Nayuta no Kiseki!
What's this about a trilogy?
FF6 on PS1 has added load times. Not an issue if you've played any PS1 RPG, but can be jarring to SNES players (or GBA players I suppose). Not an issue for me in my opinion.
People said the same thing about Final Fantasy Tactics PSP and I didn't care.

I'll buy FFVI PS1 next time it's on sale or something. Blegh, I'm just gonna go finish my FFX Platinum...

What's this Chaos Rings PSM Square Enix title?

The PS1 FFVI is at least 99% actually FFVI compared to the iOS-Maker version.

The split second of loading between battles and menus in any of the SNES-to-PS1 Square jrpg ports don't bother me at all, but diff strokes for diff folks.

they just need to keep the original game, upres and make sure the UI and typography go along too

and add in some "emulator-only" function like a fast forward button, etc. all these things will help the "modern" gamer enjoy these classics more.

This is one case where you have thicker skin than me. I couldn't stand playing FFT:WOTL (despite everything else about it being great) after playing the original without the slowdown. Having CFW and the live patch saved that game for me to become the definitive version.

It's a pretty crappy JRPG by Media Vision.
That... Makes me sad. Little things like pre-rendered backgrounds were enough to have me interested in this game, but if there's nothing more to it than that I'll give it a pass.

Yeah, Sonic All-Stars is awesome and feels great on Vita. Such a tightly packaged and presented game. Multiplatform or not, it's one of the best things to own for it, imo.

Why?

The best experience with SS is the Delta version since they pretty much reworked on half of the game.

The menu is more or less of same but added bazaar and is all in one place, which makes it easier. The spell system has improved, tweaked and overall has better balance (OG is just spamming throws & close combat spell along with many other spells in OG are so underpowered that theyre basically useless), improved graphics and ai etc.
The added story and more about factions. they also keep adding DLC so you'll want... SSD. also has better introduction and it doesnt just throw you in the game.

FF6 Android and PS1 (apparently) suck

SNES = GBA (or it could go > depending on how you view the audio quality) > PS1 > iOS/Android

SNES and GBA is the way to go, but if you don't want to fork a pretty penny for a copy and have access to a Wii, then you can grab the SNES version from the eShop.

Should you not have access to a SNES/GBA/Wii then the PSN route is the only way to go. Sans the performance issues, it still stays true to its roots.

What's this about a trilogy?

Nayuta no Kiseki is the only game not related to the rest of the Kiseki series.

It's essentially Eiden/Kiseki-flavoured Ys.

Trails in the Sky "trilogy" (Sora no Kiseki) is part of the Kiseki "trilogy" (
so far, but I think there'll be another Kiseki game after Sen if Sen doesn't end in II based on what Falcom said
).

Get Delta, coola.

And you seem to just be choosing the wrong JRPGs to try lol

Any updates on the R&C trilogy for Vita?

Do we know if it's native-res?

I kinda want to call dibs on making the OT if no-one else has already.

Did you just recommend an unlocalized game?
SNES = GBA (or it could go > depending on how you view the audio quality) > PS1 > iOS/Android
No. Just... This'd be like me telling someone they need to get MGS2 Substance for the Xbox OG because it has the best performance. PS1 it is. It has the same art style and menus as the original.

...
I'm just gonna delete Soul Sacrifice. Download something else and wait for Delta to price drop into oblivion.

Agh. There's just... *sigh*.
What's the most recent "Best JRPG Ever" post-Persona 4? My 2 month stint of playing P3P and P4 was so transformative and defining, I just want more of that caliber of game.

I don't think anything has really lived up to that tbh... just wait for P5, lol.

But it's been 6 years. Good god, I'm gonna be forced to buy a 3DS with Bravely Default, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei 4. Fuck it, I'm gonna go ask beg my friend if I can use his second 3DS and then I'll use my $60 I got from trading in Killzone and Soul Sacrifice for Target on 2 of those 3. Seriously, what the hell, Japan?

Nothing tops P4 and P3P yet in terms of story and character development. Scratching that JRPG itch with Atelier Meruru+ and Rorona+ soon so I think I'm covered until Disgaea 4 and Danganronpa 2 arrives. So far.. it seems to be effective and I'm having a blast playing Meruru. :)

Wish we got more JRPGs though.. it's sad when your favorite genre is slowly fading into oblivion in favor of shooters and mobile games.

Like always, yeah?

You can spend six months getting enough knowledge for JLPT3 level and play all the Kiseki games within two years with a dictionary, or you can spend 20 years waiting for XSEED!
As someone that has JLPT level 3, I really do not think I would have learned enough through six months of self study to pass that level and I don't think most people would, especially not with the sole motivation for learning being to play a game that isn't localised.

hmm I haven't really found a cloud solution for my photos.. it's all on HDD... maybe insta or Facebook for the more social ones.

this should educate you about flickr

dropbox isn't better than google drive, i rather have that.

Iam using this: http://pic.fi/
Got a Finnish version of it www.kuvat.fi for several years, paying yearly for it.
I think there is free version too (with ads).
Uploading Vita pics by cable to PC and then to pic.fi
For example my DoS pictures are here: http://rixan.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Vita/DoS/
Got shitloads of other pics there too, mainly cats -> http://rixan.kuvat.fi/kuvat/Kissat/Viikon+kuvat/

Edit: Seems that they have changed it. It used to be 1Gb was free, now its 1 month free trial.

Persona 4 Golden
When do I get to play this game or collect waifus?
~2 hours. Just relax. Take a breath and keep the pacing slow (don't try to rush). The uptake for the game is incredibly long but also amazing, especially in hindsight. Enjoy it now, and you'll enjoy it even more when you look back on it. Also, you've got about 20 hours to best girl. Once again, don't rush, chill. It's a 100 hour game.
The atelier games.
Playing Totori on Vita right now. I'm finding it juvenile, both over and under complicated, kinda walking on the pandering line, and some parts of it feel recycled even though I have no earthly idea what they'd be recycled from. It is, perfectly paced though.

Someone once said that the most recent one (Dusk Something?) fixes the juvenile feeling issue I might have with Totori right now though.

That's incredibly saddening. And it has a spiraling effect where there's little competition so quality doesn't go up and sales go down and the spiral starts over. What happened to the Japan that shaped my childhood? I hope FFXII is better than I remember it being, and it's on the Vita. And P5 gets a Vita port. I hope that AAA Sony JRPG rumour is true. Quality sells, y'know?

Theres been ton of great jrpgs since 2008. They just aren't on Vita.

Yes, but nowadays, fewer and fewer seems to be considered exceptional or top notch compared to JRPGs of old.

Aside from trouble in HD development and the rise of mobile games, the quality of most JRPGs nowadays seem to fall between average and good. Developers are opting for more fan-service and less focus on character development and story which the latter is I think is the main selling point of the genre. Can't really blame them though since they have to make money and sex or its characterization sells.

Hope the things you say come true. More quality JRPGs means life. :P
