"PlayStation Plus is increasing its pricing globally starting September 6th."

$20 increase for essential. $59.99 -> $79.99
$35 increase for extra. $99.99 -> $134.99
$40 increase for premium. $119.99 -> $159.99
What the Fsck?!? It is insane.

I'm tired of every fucking service increasing their prices without increasing their output. Netflix, Disney+, MAX, Sony, etc. can all kiss my ass at this point. COVID really had their heads in the clouds and gave them all false hope for a new future.
They all knew it, they tried to lead a loss leading strategy for as long as they could to get consumers tied to them as tightly as possible as fast as possible… and then they squeeze. GamePass is poised to do the same when they hold you tight enough. It sucks…

They’re really embracing the “premium” label they’ve been approaching for some time. Frankly this fits a lot of their related decisions as of late. The PS5 ecosystem (Consoles, VR2, Portal, now Plus) is insanely expensive and a damn huge sink now.

Echoing others I’ll likely pick up a year before the 6th but this is genuinely a terrible hike regardless, fuck inflation.

Oh, hello another service increasing its price. Who is next?

$35.00 for Extra is kinda pricey. I'm debating If I'll renew it when I can barely clean my backlog. Fuck this shit, and Premium is still not worth it.

Luckily I only get PS+ 1 month subs for the games that have trophies tied to being in multiplayer(e.g. co-op related trophies in Dying Light 2 etc.) Otherwise I couldn't be bothered with online services. I am happy that the prices increase, if it brings the demise for shitty online subscriptions and paid multiplayer I am all for the increases.

I'll think about Essentials but I can't think of any game I play online anymore besides SF6 every once and a while and I don't need to do that, im fine just playing offline. Don't play Battlefield anymore other than 4 and I haven't played that in a long time. So even Essential isn't worth it for me now.

Technically you are getting value here so it's technically worth it but that's more so on whether you out paying for games to begin with. PlayStation wants to be full greed all while providing crumbs on whats on the timeline. A wannabe Apple without the premium products to be Apple.

you.
Not many have mentioned it, but this makes Nintendo Switch Online look better than whatever shit PS Plus or Xbox sub is cooking. Like, I feel like for single people at least 20$, or 35$ for family, is really a good price for at least one year, and that's with basic features. I don't know if they have any offers for family. But 35$ for Nintendo to cover up to 8 people in family playing online is a HUGE opportunity.

Of course, I don't ask people to excuse the pricing of NSO or having to need that to play games online in the first place, but I think it's not too bad all of a sudden now that the other consoles decided to increase pricing for subscriptions.

"Sony says it needs to increase the price of all three versions of PlayStation Plus “to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service”

Basically a 33% price increase across the board. Pretty fucking massive signal.

Unfortunately, I think this is just the beginning. Our entire system is built on near-zero interest rates and those days are long gone.

80$ for online and cloud saves. That’s 400$ for the rest of the gen if you start now. They don’t allow you to back up saves.

Feeling like a mug right now, at 450$ + high priced games with increasingly lower discounts, it has gotten to the point where a PC is the more sensible purchase.

Probably buying an Xbox now 😂 I can’t support this shit.

Compare this to NSO. If you had to start day 1 (assume new console, according to rumors a reveal is imminent) and given pricing doesn't change, 1 year = 20$, then on average it's 140$ per gen. With the fact PS Plus pricing is increasing and might not decrease in the future, suddenly NSO isn't that bad, is it? Having to pay so much just to play PS games online (that's what I saw according to searching) is... ugh...

PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
79.99 USD | 71,99 Euro | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen

Are these prices right? 6800 yen converts to $46.51 at the moment. The US subscription costs nearly double.

Why does Japan have it so good?

Motherland? Sony getting caned by Nintendo? Price reflective of the situation with each economy?

I don’t know.

Considering all 3 of them are charging for peer to peer online, yes - Nintendo’s offering is now the only one that represents anything close to value.

People were shitting on Kutaragi but the dude offer you an incredible console for 600$ with no Online pay, even back then i was saying it was much better deal than Xbox 360 that seemed cheaper, but it wasn't really because of paid online
An amazing console that is worse with almost every third party title, wow, so happy.

I think the problem back then was they were trying to be deceiving. For a good year they made it look like the Xbox 360 was expensive at $400. Plus Sony faked their demos. Kutaragi was looking down on his consumers. People got mad, and with good reason.

I would say that when the Switch 2 launches I’m full expecting Nintendo to get rid of the 2 tier online structure and make the Expansion Pass version the only version - probably with a small price increase (from £34.99 to £39.99 or something similar). Which would suck dick. Hopefully I’m wrong.

So in Canada, Essentials will end up around $100 CDN. lol. Amping up those MP fees when the hoard of GAAS games launch.

Xbox Gold is currently $70 CDN. $60 at Costco.

I have cancelled my PS Renewal. Price is too much for too little. If a pay to win MMO, an awful co-op shooter, and an insulting "modern" reboot of a cult classic are what Sony considers "high quality", then I don't particularly see myself enjoying their future offerings at the large price increase. Especially since I only used the service to play Dead by Daylight online and for the classic games, which come out infrequently.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Can only recommend to make a turkish account and buy it there. Costs like 17$ per year for the highest tier, but thats without streaming. Also cant use cloud saves, but other than that you can play the games and multiplayer with your main account. Stacked till 2030 that way.

Does it work if you have a US PSN account ?

edit: I mean, like how you can redeem cheaper codes from CDKeys on Xbox, is the same possible on PS+ for a US based account ?

I'm curious.

For a lot of gaming, you hear and read about regions like South America, Russia and maybe some more with dirt cheap games. So cheap, it's like they give them away.

For these companies and user profiles, is it that easy to just pick Argentina, get dirt cheap games and the e-store and console/PC will allow it? Or are the systems smart enough to only allow the ISP location locking you into that region?

Hell, if I knew gaming would be that cheap in the 2000s when I played online gaming on console for the first time (360), I would had made a South American account, get games for cheap and try to switch all game options and system dashboard settings to english mode.

So $80 for cloud saves/multiplayer. 😂. I opened this thread expecting a small increase, not over a 30% increase for all tiers. WTF.

I think you have to make new account over turkey?

It's better just buy 1 yr subscription over cdkeys while still cheaper $60 (Then Stack it).

I know if your sub ends you lose access to all the monthly games but do you get access back to those if you rejoin or does it start fresh from the month you come back? I've had Plus non stop since it started.

Shiiit, and right when everyone is happy with Sea of Stars appearing on extra/gamepass.
Might just downgrade to essential before the hike. Wtf sony, straying to close to the dark side.

The top tier was always a junk tier to buy. The best one IMO was the middle tier.

Top tier only worth it if someone is really big into cloud saves and retro games from old PS eras.

Oh I never cared for some ps2 games on Premium. Emulation on steamdeck is the way. But the middle Extra tier is very cool, lots of stuff that gets added that are actually interesting and more enticing than gamepass the last few months. Not anymore.

I also hate how they handle their + games when added to your library. Vice city keeps showing up on my library in ps app even though its out of the service. Add to the fact its a sonofabitch to actually buy games that are actually on the service. Wanted to buy stray and ffvii remake multiple times the past year but got roadblocked saying I already have it on subscription. Its a mess.
