I've let it lapse twice now, which I never did before. First time they offered me Extra for the same price as Essential ($80) so I took it. This time they offered me premium for $100 so once again I took it.

As long as Sony offers me a good deal I'll take it. But, if the difference is too high I'll just stick with Essential.

But, I'll never pay the standard price for the other tiers.

It's very sad that I can't casually enjoy Bloodborne and Souls-games anymore since online functionality is locked behind stupidly expensive PS+. I hope Sony introduce PS+ Basic/Elements with only online functionality; or they could sell online functionality coupons which are valid for a few hours and you have to buy lets say a pack of 10 for a small fee... but it would be such a mess...

...just give us free online for the games we paid for! It's ridiculous online is free for F2P games but not for paid games. That makes me very reluctant to buy PlayStation-games when I can rather buy them cheaper and play online for free on PC.

Where's the option for "Seriously considering a Steam Machine 2.0 if they're available by next-gen"?

Because that's where I'm leaning, personally. Well, that and a Switch 2 (which I'd get first...stock will probably be hell first year tho and I am too busy to micromanage preorder drops or stock drops in launch period). Mind, it's not just the PS+ price increase in a vacuum; it's the fact there's an increase with no new value added to justify the increase. It's all the other price increases over the years. It's them having ported so many games to PC this gen including all the GAAS where online multiplayer is free. It's the decreasing number of exclusives both 1P & 3P-wise. It's the bad customer service and shoddy-ish refund policy. It's the realization Insomniac are basically "stuck" on Marvel content until 2030 (assuming nothing happens to the planned R&C). It's SIE's bad mismanagement of several studios resulting in Bluepoint somehow getting stuck on a GOW GAAS that's now cancelled and setting Bluepoint back in having a new game this gen as a result.

It's a whole lot of causes, but I mentioned Steam Machines for a reason. I could just say "PC" but Windows is on some bullshit these days and just has a lot of unnecessary bloat. Valve's also several steps ahead of Microsoft in terms of console-fying PC gaming, so from a practical customer POV going with a Steam Machine (or if for whatever reason they aren't there, a Steam Deck 2...tho hopefully it's competitive in specs) just seems like a no-brainer option, unless Microsoft can REALLY impress with their (real) Xbox PC hybrid plans (not this Xbox ASUS stuff, which I have zero interest in even tho I like ASUS as a hardware maker).

If SIE could reverse course on some things, like cutting back on some of the GAAS and pushing genuine exclusives again (with a greater variety of Western & Japanese/Asian games plus AAA & AA), then some of the issues I mentioned earlier could be tolerated. But if they don't, and I don't have FOMO, then putting up with all of that (or worst) just to play 1P games 12 months ahead of a PC port just isn't enough of a motivation.

That's why I would still consider a Switch 2: even if Nintendo's kind of stupid for some of their games pricing (and some aspects of messaging for the system are just borked), they've still got a lot of strong 1P exclusives I'd like to play and seemingly will have some surprising 3P exclusives (full & timed) as well like Duskbloods. Sure I could buy the games and play them in an eventual emulator on PC, but I'd rather play on real hardware and not deal with software emulation errors, emulation bugs, or missing features.

In case the price increases in the US, I'm definitely keeping an eye out for black friday sales. As it is $80 is too much.

Only a valid strat if you aren't already subbed.

I'll be cancelling once they raise the price in 'Murica. Losing Cloud saves sucks, but that just means more PC games. I only play Marvel Rivals and Fortnite on PS%, so I dont need it for MP.

I only subscribe every few years (not even sure what prompts me to do that), so it doesn't really matter to me. Feel for those regularly subscribed though.

I'll be downgrading to essential.

Will upgrade back to extra if there are games I wanna try out.

Well, I think I've endured enough price increases this generation. If the premium goes up, I'll cancel that same day.

So far this increase doesn't impact me. I unsubscribed after the last increase and bought an annual subscription of Essential when it went on sale for the original price. I have auto-renew turned off but I'll probably re-up for Essential because I like playing Tekken online with friends too much to let a few dollars get in the way.

If I didn't manage to play everything I want to play once it runs out it'll have zero effect.

If, however, I manage to play all the games left tonplay for me on PS plus, I'll cancel my subscription.

But chances are I won't be able to play through 60+ games until november.

USA here, so the increases won't affect me, BUT I was already unsubscribed from PS+ due to the prior price increases. I'm not paying $80 per year for online play and cloud save storage. Fuck that. I'll re-up for 6 months or maybe a year when Elden Ring Night Reign releases, but otherwise, I'm not missing any of the online features.

I am in the US and I stacked several years using discounted gift cards on top of using the old capped upgrade method. So I'm locked into Premium until like 2029 but am paying the old Essential price (around $50 a year).

No immediate effect, but I won't be renewing once it expires in a few years.

It's almost a year since my PS+ lapsed (after a long run). No thoughts about coming back, but I'm not into multiplayer games so one of the main features isn't for me.

Similar to games trended to $70, and perhaps $80 will be the standard at some point just vote with your wallet. Buy games when dirt cheap on sale months later cratering their front ended full priced sales, or just balk and buy something else.

Media is the one industry that relies on front loaded sales (games, movies, TV show viewership etc...). On the other hand, a company making a new box of cookies will actually have crap sales at launch as nobody knows about it, but over time can be a billion dollar seller. So you can see the 180 in marketing tactics and purchasing habits media has. So if you feel they are ripping you off and still need to play the game, buy it when it's dumped at $20 or sub plan if you can wait even longer. Lets them eat a fraction of sales than full price.

It's obvious the game industry is trying to squeeze people, and when it comes to sub plans, it doesnt matter if it's gaming, Netflix, Spotify, cable or your phone plan. What they are banking on is any price increase outweighs lost customers. A lot of companies know most customers will just stick with it and eat the increase than cancel their account.

So as long as the overall net revenue > lost sales from bailing customers it'll be worth doing almost all the time. There are times a company will bite the bullet on low prices to build up the base. But once it hits that threshold they know it cant really grow anymore (no more sales from a bigger herd of cows), thats when the prices go up a lot assuming the current customer base sticks around (milk the current cows more). All companies are forced to strive for growth as thats the business thing to do, so if it doesnt come from more customer, than it comes from a price hike.

I knew this shit was coming and I bought 3 years.

I bought 3 years of Nintendo too.

I couldn't reason with 3 years of GP Ult so I let it go and now I kinda regret because this was a good year.

Probably unsubbing and I've been subbed since it's launch. I don't really play the free games and most of my online gaming is already on PC. I only really play single player stuff on my PS5.

I'm in the US so nothing changes.

I'm a ps premium tier subscriber and get a lot of value out of it, with game trials and the game catalogue.

It pays for itself by letting me play a lot of games I'd otherwise not play or try out if I had to buy them

It's like $10/month or whatever, if this is your hobby that's not exactly highway robbery.
Not to mention we get all the PS Classics releases free with PS+ Premium which in the last 8 months has saved me over $150 in purchases. That perk alone justifies the $160 annual price for me. Maybe if Sony quits releasing those titles I'll consider lowering to Extra or Essential but so far Premium has been good to me.

And thats the great thing about sub plans. You pay a modest price and get tons of content you can rotate games.

But naysayers of sub plans will say you are an idiot wasting your money because you dont own it. Any PS+/GP sub plan game is a scam and you should spend more money and buy out the game to add it to your collection of games.

when my PS+ Extra was up for renewal, I went with the lower tier PS+ Essential, because I could not justify the price for what I took out of the service.
If Sony does increase the prices even further, I will not even think about going back to the higher tiers

I unsubscribed last February when my sub lapsed and decided not to reup due to the last price increase. This does nothing to convince be to resub.

I, like many, just want to be able to play online ocassionally and the $40/yr i used to pay was pushing it.

Id likely pay $30-40/yr just to play online. No other bells and whistles needed.

I still have an active sub since it was first available on the PS3. But I've stuck with only Essential. After the US price increase to $80 I decided I was done. In July the stocked up time I have will finally expire.

With the PS3 and even 4 generations I had reasons to play on consoles. Now almost everything is on PC. I still have the latest consoles but barely touch them. The games generally end up as inferior, especially when I get around to playing them have a mid range PC could make them fly.

The fact it costs so much is already absurd. And they made it harder by not allowing retailers to sell cards, at least in Europe? So you have to pay the higher direct price since preloaded credit cards don't have as good deals.

So, f Sony in that regard.

I just want to play online, geez. Next gen, if MS want to be competitive in another way should just make playing online free.

None. It sucks, but everything in society is getting more expensive, so it's whatever.

If people think it's getting out of hand, find a different hobby.

I'm in EU and I always wait for discount to renewal my essential tier subscription. I'm not interested to upgrade to higher tiers (no time to play)

Yeah the game catalogue is enormous

Already played a bit of RE3, Doom, and Star Wars JS this year.

There's always stuff I'm not inclined to drop money on, and collectively it adds up to a lot of fanes each year.

The game trials is nice too since I can try out games before deciding if I want to buy. Ended up saving some money or even spending some money on a game I otherwise wouldn't have bought but ended up enjoying

USA here, my sub lapsed in February and I haven't renewed but its still $80 a year here which isn't bad and I still have a few games I want to play online. It fucking sucks though, im sick of paying for online access, the free games usually mean nothing to me.

Who cares. I will downgrade to essential and use my PS5 Pro for the things I bought it for - Sony/console exclusives, games with shit PC ports, and couch multiplayer.

Yes, it fucking sucks and Sony are greedy pricks. But, what can you do. Everything is expensive. My beloved WoW is getting an absolutely outrageous price hike too. I'm not going to stop doing the things I enjoy, since there are so few of those left.

I won't be renewing and ill probably sell one of my ps5s.

Locking cloud saves to ps plus is the worst imo.

Pathetic.

Im not moving my saves via USB in 2025.

Wait, didn't they raise the price a year ago? Are you telling me they are doing it again? 🤣. Last year I opted out after the increase, this is now just becoming a joke.

Converted ps now for a bunch of years when it was about to close, so I'm good till like 2028, but most like it I'll drop it after. I don't use consoles to play online anyway, that's what pc is for.

It makes all the posts about micorosft increasing gamepass prices even more entertaining.

Sonys the one raising prices left and right and all the sony fans point fingers at MS shouting "watch when they raise the prices. Stupid people enjoying gamepass. It will be expensive soon...Just you wait"

Don't be disingenuous, MS not only was the first company to start this bullshit paywall for online with the xbox360, but they have already increased the price of their subscription service multiple times. And will keep going up.

We can be against it for all sides right?
