PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for September Revealed

The fact that this thread reached a point or ridiculousness where a known poster had to post receipts of their console purchases is just...

So no one just has essential these days? I'm surprised to see so few comments about the shit tier games for essential. Definitely the worst month I can remember.
I wasn't sure if I would upgrade when they announced it, but the more I looked at the games, the more it made sense to just upgrade to the top tier.

Goes back to playing the PSPgo....

is it really? is this "ridiculous" amount of content?

you obviously have not looked at the competition

personally i think this is really meager content, besides deathloop (which is still a year old now..)
I mean last month they released most of the Yakuza franchise, Stray, and Ghost recon. Now they dropped those games. And the catalog has over 700 games ….. I think it is a lot of content for a couple of months.

For that price? Have you compared to gamepass? The output is pathetic on sonys service - we should expect more

I hope the many cancel the premiem tiers (i sure will) - then it will improve at least

Frankly we should have gotten Tlou part 1 - it is an old game after all

PS3 stream only should either have a download option, or stream in 1080. Pixel Junk isn't the same without clear graphics.

The Classics offering is a bit bullshit to be honest, I was expecting a bigger library and so far it's very lackluster.

Tbh the amount of content is ridiculous:

SLY COOPER franchise
AC ORIGINS
WATCH DOGS 2
DEATHLOOP
And NFS

They used to have like 1 biggish game a month….. they dropping a lot of games every month. Between Yakuza and all the launch games for extra (Death St, Ghosts, guardians of the galaxy ) I’m like super back logged lol

This is only if you have PS Extra / Premium. If you had Essential like before, you'd get just NFS worth mentioning and most people already had it. Sly Cooper is streaming only. Yeah you got more games for doubl;e the price of the regular PS+ tier. Thats what you paying money for.

How many game trails are now available on this? Was supposed to be a big deal, we are now in month 3 since launch.

PS Plus Premium is $120 per year, while Gamepass is $180 per year.
PS Plus Premium has over 750 games, while Gamepass has ~474 games.

So PS Plus Premium offers more games at a 40% cheaper price.

Shouldn't we expect more from Gamepass?

Looking forward to finally playing deathloop.

Nearly bit for £30 a few times but glad I waited as I’ll get it on extra now and see how it is.

Still so much to play in the backlog.

First of all, if you're paying $180 a year for GamePass, you're doing it wrong.
Second, how many of those 750 games came out this year? Last...ten years? How about day one releases?

Personally, I expect a helluva lot more from PS+Premium for that price, comparatively.

Watch out, somebody will spend three days calculating the metacritic average for each service and prove you wrong!
If it takes you three days to calculate that you must be a bit slow.

But since you ask:
PS Premium average MC today: 71.8
GP (console) average MC today: 77.5

25% of games in PS Premium are over 80 MC versus 48% of GP games (although because of Day 1 and early access, fewer games have a MC rating to begin with).

37% of PS Premium games are under 70 MC versus 17% of GP games (with the same caveat).

Shall we do year of release next? Takes a bit longer to script.

Not enough, like 15? Conspicuously absent is gt7 and the last of us. If Sony wants us to pay extra for premium the least they can do is at least make demos for the aaa sony first party games. The demos were the biggest reason I paid extra and so far horizon was the only game I've tried on it. Some of the ps1 games are cool but the streaming ps3 ones sucked for me.

Gamepass has better games (according to MC) and way, way more day one games. So no.

Yeah quantity is what this is all about. Especially love those amazing streaming ps3 titles

PS has 99% really old stuff - THAT is the issue

You said the "output" is pathetic, implying that you're talking about quantity.

But sure. Let's talk about quality then. PS Plus have games like:
  • Demon's Souls (92/100)
  • Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut (87/100)
  • Death Stranding Director's Cut (85/100)
  • Celeste (92/100)
  • Returnal (86/100)
  • Ratchet & Clank (85/100)
  • TLOU 1 Remastered (95/100)
  • Hollow Knight (90/100)
  • Spider-Man (87/100)
  • Spider-Man Miles Morales (85/100)
  • Bloodborne (92/100)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (97/100)
  • Uncharted Lost Legacy (84/100)
  • Dead Cells (89/100)
  • Stray (83/100)
  • Control Ultimate Edition (87/100)
  • Outer Wilds (85/100)
  • Final Fantasy VII Intergrade (89/100)
  • TLOU Remastered (95/100)
  • Uncharted 4 (93/100)
  • God of War (94/100)
Is that not quality enough?

Or do you only want the latest no-name AA games that don't rank beyond 70/100? I'd rather have higher-quality titles that I'd actually want to play rather than shovelware that no one cares about after 2 days of launch.

Yes, there are loopholes to GP, but if you're comparing services, you gotta do it at their retail prices.

I don't care how old the games are as long as they are good. I'll reboot God of War, Uncharted, Returnal, TLOU 2, every now and then (I'm about to start God of War's 5th run next week) rather than playing Outriders or The Medium even if they were available on day one.

Quality trumps all.

Each to his own -- more power to you if you like some other service -- but PS+ offers the best value to me. Having said that, I generally don't like subscriptions at all and think all of them should go away.

Also, remember when Gamepass launched five years ago and how it looked? It took Gamepass 5+ years to be where it's at, and PS+ Premium is already there in two months. That's important context.

That is stuff that is usually on sale - the monetary value is low

So yes your list only proves my point. Only older, hence cheaper, stuff. Sure, YOU might prefer Uncharted 4 over Forza Horizon 5 or Halo infinite, Starfield etc - but the monetary value is not even comparable

Sony is puttin the bargain bin in their service - this is just fact. Sure Bloodborne is amazing - but try buying it in 2022? It wont cost you much…

You are using Gamepass Ultimate pricing, so don't forget the almost 100 EA games you get access to as well.

Essential is a great deal. I have Premium for a year but I reckon Essential is the same bar PS3 streaming and timed demos.

Well, I browsed through it and saw Trials of Mana, R-Type Final 2 (which I bought on Xbox at launch, since X|S boosted), MK11, Crash 4, Miles Morales, Demon's, Death Stranding DE, Wreckfest, Ghost of Tsushima. Returnal, FFVII Intergrade etc. This is a great deal. I bought FFVII Intergrade on sale, some time ago but wish I hadn't. Returnal I also bought on sale but it was a year ago and I love the game anyway. On sale still meant they cost me about 50 bucks each.

But if you don't have these games and want a few of them, lowest price I can find on a new copy of Returnal is this:

https://www.budgetgaming.nl/ps5/returnal.html Cheapest spotted Returnal is still 66 euros.

Same goes for Ghost DE while Intergrade can be grabbed for 40 and Demon's for 50. Even Morales's lowest retail price here is 45 ish. These Sony games are kind of going the way of Nintendo, barely dropping in price.

Granblue Versus is an ArcSys fighting game, right? Might try that out.

Deathloop is awesome but I beat it on PC already.
As someone who played extensively Granblue I'll be blunt. It has great fundamentals and is easy to get into it, but the online is dead. They should have grabbed this and announced it last month before the Evo 2022 tournament. Such a missed opportunity by Sony.

I'm sorry but is that supposed to be a good thing?
NHL, FIFA, Madden, F1, UFC, Grid Legends, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, It takes Two, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Need for Speed.

Then all the BC classics like all the Dragon Age games, Dead Space, Skate, etc.

Seems worth it to me.

I imagine being one of the month Plus games will help that though.

"At this price, PS+ out is pathetic vs Gamepass. We should expect more"

But PS+ offers 300+ more games at 40% cheaper price than Gamepass.

"But the quality of the games is low."

I posted a list of 20+ 85+ MC AAA games.

"But these are old games"

Many of those games are less than a year or two old. Same as Gamepass.

"But the monetary value of those games are low."

Wow.

And seeing as the stuff on Premium is weak, we really should be comparing the Extra price to Gamepass, making PS+ an even better deal at under $100 a year.

You might want to check the games actually on PS+ Extra. I think you'd be disappointed in how good it is.

As someone who has both, PS+ Extra has a lot more high quality AAA games than GamePass right now. It just does.

I upgraded 10 years of Plus for $149.99. And if I'm generous, I'll say I paid on average of $25 a year for Plus in the first place.
I mean, three years for $1, my guy.
Not to mention the $200+ in my account from Quests. It's not really comparable, but hey, you tried!
