You do realize only reason we are getting that $35 was there was no parity between stores.
First US was getting weekly updates, EU monthly. EU users got butthurt, complained, SCEA switched the US store to a bi-weekly occurrence.

EU got better deals down the line, while NA was thrown basic run of the mill stuff.
US users complained why we get $7.99-$9.99 garbage PSN game (ie Mushroom Wars/Zen Pinball), while our counterparts are getting $35 games to play, there should be balance

The reason I'm also upset is the slippery slope can become an issue, if we don't complain, Sony will take it that PSN+ users don't care for repeats...guess what happens next. Being vocal does help, go look @ that blog, look @ the comments, look how many are pissed

You may take the high ground by saying let others people enjoy it, why let them suffer and not get a chance, we had our chance, it's been 6 months, but there's a reason why PSN+ content gets taken down, either join early or at the right time and enjoy the stuff given out or as the saying goes "Snooze, You lose"

If someone want Fieldrunners go buy it, but it was already offered to PSN+ users, we are only 1/2 a year in, and recycling is already taking place
I know this is a what if scenario, but what if Sony releases a PSN game that already was offered, remember we get 1 PSN game a month, lets say that in February they say we are giving Mushroom Wars again for people that missed out, guess what? early adopters will lose a month, and have to wait the next month

If recycling was going to be a part of this service, then they should have a disclaimer stating such thing that there's a chance of some games repeating

The service has no balance between stores, no communication at all or regarding what PSN+ requirements are in fine print, it's been a complete clusterfuck

New users will have an advantage over me, I have enjoyed 6 months worth of content, new PSN+ users who get to enjoy the 6 (9 due to get 3 month bonus) months I have left, and if I don't re-up my sub, they will have 6 months more of content to enjoy

So if the new users get all the old content, what about the old users who will lose their months stuff due to it, not fair

Best thing to do was offer old users a new mini, and the Fieldrunners mini for new customers that missed out or those whose 3 month subs ran out, that would be best

I know it's only a mini, a $2.99-$7.99 game, but I paid for a service and I do deserve to be compensated equally for said service
The blog comments are a joke on both the US and EU blogs. In both places, people complain the other group is getting much better games on every single update. It's a grass is greener scenario with neither side having a real advantage but both sides believing they have a disadvantage.

Thus, I see very little reason to pay attention to the comments There are virtually the same number of people complaining every single time on all the previous updates too. I guess it's a haters gotta hate thing, but that doesn't make it acceptable practice.

All I'm really trying to say is that you can complain, but if you want people to really listen, don't do it in a way that just seems like you want to latch onto something (anything) to hate. Give Sony a chance before assuming the worst and discuss things rationally. Rather than swearing, express your disappointment and state your hopes and fears about what it means for the future. Basically, continue to post in the way you just did rather than the previous one and people like me won't disregard them entirely.

I really do believe that these repeats will be relatively rare, perhaps once a month at most. I don't think it will lower the amount of new minis either. We've had a lot more than one a month so far, right?

Following up on the SCEE PS+ sub-thread within this thread...

  • Also, starting the game directs user to store?

Yes, it actually directs you to the very game you wanted to start.

  • However, the game cannot be found in the normal browsing means (e.g. Games -> All Games -> alphabetic choice -> list of games ... not sure how it's done on the EU PS Store).
  • The game can be found with PS Store search feature, but this results in some store error.
  • Net result: Free game is now completely inaccessible to user, even if they want to pay for it.

Yes, you can't find the games in the Store via normal browsing or using the search. However, as mentioned above IF you still have them on your HDD and start them up, it will link you to them and you would be able to buy them.
These free/rental games you downloaded during your PS+ time are now marked with a blue PS Store icon (not the red icon), basically showing that you once played that game (similar to when a full game trial expires, then the full game will get the blue PS Store icon).

So SCEE's system makes no sense at all because even if I want to buy them after loosing my sub, I can't if I don't have the files still on my HDD.

everything else is just as you wrote it, my PSN-ID is SolidusDave.

Do you have any free games that you did download, but have since deleted? Perhaps they show up in the search if you don't have them on the drive any more. If not, is there one you definitely would never buy that you would like to test with?

Oh, and please don't take any offence, but it's spelt 'lose'. You set the dogs loose, but lose your keys. I wouldn't normally say anything, but it's been said too many times in this thread lately...

I think we're all friendly enough in this thread not to take offense. I'm sure he'll be happy to know how it is properly spelled.</american> :D (Please take it as a gentle joshing...)

SolidusDave, thanks for clearing things up. Since it's the weekend, I don't expect any response from SCEE until Monday, but when I do get something I'll of course put it here.

Thanks for the effort you are putting in jvm. If we can get this turned around in our favour then we'll be making a lot of people very happy.

Touché.

I'm just glad neither of us fell into the trap of including a glaring spelling or grammatical error in a post about spelling or grammatical errors. That wood bee embarrassing.

Mind telling me where was it that Sony mentioned that PSN+ would have brand new games every month? because I have looked on the official page as well as the E3 announcement, yet I haven't found anything about it.

Also, what is it that you are exactly "loosing"? by now, you should have already gotten enough downloads to cover for what you paid, and that's without counting the other services that are exclusive to PSN+, unless you are not using ANY of them, but I doubt that's the case, right? :lol

Good god, people always find something to complain about

This is quite an interesting situation we have going on here. I for one love PS+ and think that it has definitly more then paid for itself. I bought the year subscription when it came out and have really enjoyed the games. I hope scee gets their shit together before they start losing customers when the periods expire. NA PSN BTW

Wait we are getting Fieldrunners Mini again?

The Fuck!?

Sony already recycling games?, it's only been 6 months (July 2010 started PSN+, really June but content rolled out in July)

That's not fair, either give us a new mini, or don't re-up the same shit to fill it in for a slot

So this is how Sony going to treat PSN+ users?

For the yearly users, heh your screwed, to all you late joiners we are offering everything we offered in the beginning, but now you can too join in on the fun, and when you are 6 months in, guess what? we do it all over again...FUCK!

I would prefer all-new content with every update as well, but if the "recycled" games are posted in addition to the new stuff (not "filling a slot") I'm totally cool with that.

I actually missed out on the first batch or two of PS+ stuff because I didn't realize everything would only be available for 1-2 weeks.
I'd love to see Wipeout re-upped (in addition to a full update of new content) and I'm sure some newer PS+ users would too!

I think I might actually subscribe to Playstation Plus next month. Sam & Max, Fieldrunners and Crash Tag Racing are all games I was actually planning to buy eventually, that's $48 right there.

I was about to test this, but now the games (including the games I tested earlier today) show up via search&store layout O.o (but not in my download list and I can only purchase them, so nothing changed on that topic).

edit: ah one of the minis still doesn't shop up / search yields a faulty link

btw I deleted some of them and it doesn't change anything, but as I said now I can find them in the Store again anyway.

oh and I'm not offended, things like that happen if you trust too much in the Firefox spell check as it can't detect correct words used wrong :lol

Thank YOU for going after them. I still hope that the different people at SCEE just don't know what they are doing, I can't imagine the SCEE PS+ Store team wants this policy (especially as they kinda want to compete with SCEA PS+). At the very least they need to do an announcement that their original FAQ was wrong on this... But as I said, they better change this for their own good.
You won't get the free/rental games back if you stop paying -> less people subscribe in the first place (though yeah, some of them might stick with PS+ to not lose ;) their games)
If you come back to PS+ later on, you will be greeted with all the free/rental games you snatched back then -> higher motivation to subscribe and especially to re-subscribe

The SCEE person did not respond this morning in reply to the email CC received from the SCEA contact. So I emailed the SCEE contact directly with our question, and I have received no reply. Given the hour, I'd imagine we won't hear anything for another day at least.

If you have alternative means to get through to SCEE, please continue to use them. (Twitter, blog comments, anything.)

Edit: When the EU Blog updates for the store this week, it would be ideal if a group of EU folks there could post in unison/collaboration, attempting to get a straight answer.

yeah planning on that, the PS Store guys are known to forward stuff to the PS+ team.

oh and I know I already mentioned it, but automatic downloading is shit :P (Aside from it only checking your 10 last played games)
The fact that it only checks every second day leads to my PS3 e.g. NOT downloading today's firmware, the GT5 update and the MAG update. I guess I have to adapt and only start my PS3 every second day :P

I had never heard of LittleBigPlanet Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves. I'm surprised they didn't hold it back and release it as LBP2 DLC.

Downloading now. I probably would have bought this, but thanks PS+ for finally releasing something I would have paid money for anyway.

Prehistoric Moves doesn't have online multiplayer!? WTF!!!
I got 2 trophies but you can't play this very well unless you have 3 hands.

I am getting rather annoyed with this now. No one is getting back to me over this, I have tried to get someone on their twitter to give me a direct email, just to let them know what a major over sight this all is and how bad for their image this will be. Yet no response, then you get ignored on the blog comments too. Shocking stuff this from Sony.

I've got the same response as last time when I rang them again. I think they are hoping that if they ignore us, we'll go away.

Free NeoGeo games have raised my mood, however.

Maybe bringing it to the attention of a gaming site like Joystiq or Eurogamer will help with getting a response (and getting it sorted).

I sent VG247 an email about it, but they don't seem interested.

I'm going to send another email to the SCEE contact -- still no reply -- and make it clear that I'm planning to write the details we have so far up for a Gamasutra news item.

I need everyone who has renewed after a lapsed subscription and lost free games as a result to make sure I have your information. I have SolidusDave's PSN. Anyone else? (You can also PM me if you'd rather not post.)

My PSN ID is the same as here Suzzopher. You write for Gamasutra?

I can get the PlayStation Universe guys to follow this up too. In fact, I'll be joining the writing staff shortly so I'll get another article out there to help push the issue.

Commented again in this week's update blogpost.
I added the information that SCEA has a complete opposite policy (the one BOTH announced) and that they should at least forward it to the PS+ guys. (got kinda ignored last week, the SCEE store guys were still replying in that blogpost but not to my comment)

Can someone shed some light on my situation; my UK/EU PS+ account didn't automatically renew. For whatever reason it didn't automatically add the funds or re-subscribe despite my account settings being setup to do exactly that. The next morning I re-subscribe manually using the same card assigned to my account and assume it's all fine only to read this thread and get worried. So I quickly check Media Go to find all my PS+ content is listed as 'expired' and panic (as you do). After calming down I check whether I can re-download the games and thankfully I could. They seem to install and work as usual. The only problem is it's listed as a different copy of the same product, with the expired content existing alongside the 'new' PS+ content. It also means re-downloading everything which is just ridiculous.

Checking my PS3+ content it's the same deal. Starting Critter Crunch it ends up in trial mode. I click 'buy full game' and I get to the store page where I download the activation to find it now works again. PS1 content worked straight away which seems odd given its expiration in media go but I'm not complaining about that. Not got around to trying other stuff yet, like trials, but clearly it's odd how this all works and far from satisfactory when everything was set up to automatically renew.

It's frustrating because prior to subscribing on a whim for PES'11 and possible GT5 content I was completely against the idea. Now that I've come around to the idea and appreciate the content and service it provides it's ended up slapping me in the face. I mean even if I get all the content back, it's a pain in the arse to do, and it's not like I let my sub lapse, I had it all set up to automatically renew.

Cigol, this is very interesting! You are in the UK ... who else was in the UK? Did something change?

Checking the store download page more carefully they've deleted and then re-added plus-specific content since they are listed as having been bought today. I guess that might explain why their antiquated system thinks it's a different product to the one I'd already downloaded. Is that how it's supposed to work if your subscription lapses (through no fault of your own)? If so maybe they have updated the way it works. Hopefully it's retroactive for others like yourself stung by it.

I should be grateful based on your experience, but it still leaves a sour taste.

Cigol, did you have enough money in your PSN wallet to cover the resub? If not, that could explain why it lapsed.

I wonder why you can redownload but the others can't, though. Perhaps it is new as you suggest and they've fixed the system in the last few days so that people that lapse now have it work like in the US. If so, hopefully they find a way to compensate the others who can't access their content right now.

It's all very strange...

Hmm, just checked my Media Go and my download history has my PS3 games I got for free but none of my PSone games. The PSone games have expired on my Media Go so won't transfer to the PSP. Can't understand how they appear on Media Go and in my PS3 download history.

Cigol, did you have enough money in your PSN wallet to cover the resub? If not, that could explain why it lapsed.
I thought it just uses the card assigned to the account? I'm sure there's an option for automatically adding funds as well as automatically subscribing - and both were enabled on my account. Either way I won't be leaving it to chance in future, but it'd be nice to have this sort of thing made clear.

@Suzzopher; They showed up as expired for me too, but they worked after redownloading them (minis and PSONE). They appear as separate entries so if you download one mini you'll still have the old mini but one will work the other will be expired. At least if you're situation is the same as mine.

We really need Cigol, SolidusDave, and Suzzopher to get together and compare notes, maybe with screenshots/photos of what they're seeing.

Hmm, it seems that the US PS Plus might be back to weekly updates, at least for the time being. A new free Mini next fortnight too. Looks like there's absolutely no reason to complain about the repetition of FieldRunners now. The repeat seems to only be in addition to the new content, not replacing it.

Yeah. In particular, we need SolidusDave and Suzzopher to try again. Perhaps the 3.55 patch has fixed things for EU or something (or is that patch only for US?).

Watch a bunch of people sign up for the PS+ now! :lol

Looks like they will be ramping up the online distributed games as well, Both prototype and borderlands this month.

This month is pretty big for US isnt it.

Yeah, well, minis and PSP Go were supposed to be a relaunch for the PSP too ... the grand new world of online distribution. Hasn't been as grand as it seemed at the time. :|

The EU store also has Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 available to download (non PS+). I think Sony is going to end up with a massive library of PS3 retail games to download.

So far they have:

LBP
inFAMOUS
Burnout Paradise
Assassins Creed
Borderlands
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Prototype (coming later this month)
God of War HD
God of War II HD
