PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

For people who are experiencing super long install times, I believe if you have a download going on in the background, it makes install times take longer so before you install something you may want to pause your downloads. Or wait till everything finishes downloading before installing anything.

I can second this. Infamous 2 with dl in background took over an hour (15 gigs) and warhammer (7 gigs) with dl paused took apx 10-15 mins.

Also imo Infamous 2 is already better than I remember the first one being.

best piece of advice in this thread..! I have done that for the longest time.. it really helps to make sure nothing is downloading while installing games..!

but damn EU servers were slow yesterday.. started 8 of the ten games, after 4 hours ít had only downloaded VF5 and half of that space 40.000 game. Normally everything would have been downloaded in that time..

50 Kb/s download speed - I'm in a new build area and it seems that the 1990's haven't caught up with it yet. Had a much faster connection in my previous place.

Anyway - are these full titles the same as before? I just need to purchase them within the allotted timeframe and I'll be able to play them into the future for as long as I have plus? I'm not sure that I'll be able to download everything by the expiry :(

Yeah it works the same. I am in a similar position, plus my 320GB is full now so I have to delete games before I download another, which on my connection takes a good few days.

So the digital copy of LBP2 doesn't access the game data of the disc version. What the fuck.

Is it like this for the digital copies of all retail games? I noticed both Infamous 2 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One also had th dubious "digital" moniker in their titles. If so, that's terrible implementation.

The thought of having LBP2 accessible at any time from my HDD had me really excited, given how much I love the series. It's pointless if I can't access my content. =(

I2 worked fine for me. Even got the extra powers and skins from LE in the digital version.

Hm. Infamous 2 and Ratchet both have the word digital in parenthesis after their titles, like so:

Infamous 2 (digital)
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (digital)

While LBP2 looks like this:

LittleBigPlanet 2 Digital Copy

And it has accompanying LittleBigPlanet 2 Digital Copy game data files. LittleBigPlanet 2 stores all save data in its game data files. Lame.

I seem to remember having similar issues with Burnout Paradise, basically it wouldn't recognise the save file from my physical copy. I think the trophy information was synced though so I couldn't get 2 Platinums for it.

So, I've been getting download speeds of literally 1 megabyte every 10-15 seconds. This is despite me getting downloads of 1.8 megabytes per second on my Xbox 360 and PC.

So, I tried this trick: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=36114814&postcount=142

Now I'm getting 1.8 MB per second on my PS3 too! Woohoo! Why I had to go through all this to get an acceptable download speed out of my PS3 I really don't know - and looking at the Internet it seems like I'm far from the only one with the problem. Anyway, the workaround works perfectly, so happy days! Now to download all the freebies :)

I seem to remember LBP (definitely the first game and I think the second too) has an in game option to export a standard save file. Maybe if you do that it will be portable between the versions of the game? I'm just guessing here but it's worth a try if you haven't already.

Good idea! I'll try that tomorrow.

The day they put up MGS4 , the subscriptions will rise. UC2 would be another candidate to lure folks in. Although i bet it would be Infamous 1 instead of Infamous 2 if they hadn't already gave that away for the PSN fiasco. So i guess Wipeout HD won't be one of the free titles again.

If Sony keeps rotating good PS3 games, this service will seriously rock.
Best spent 50€ in a long time.

Also maybe it's time for a title change?

Wouldn't they have to patch in trophies to do that?

Not happening. :lol

Does this assume either the PC, the PS3 or both are wired, or can they be wireless?

My PC and PS3 are both upstairs at the moment so are connected by wireless - could I still use this trick to get improved speeds even if they won't be as fast as they would be if I was using a wired connection?

The machines have to be on one and the same local network.

LittleBigPlanet users note:

You need to EXPORT your profile from your disk version then when you boot up the digital it should ask you if you want to import your profile (if not just wait until you are in the 'hub' and then import your profile).

=(

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's 5th Anniversary retail release had no trophies. They can get away with it because they are a "legacy" title, meaning if the old game didn't have trophies they aren't obligated to implement them now.

My PC is wired but my PS3 is wireless. I can't see why it would make any real difference though. But seriously, this trick is night and day stuff - before it was like a 56k modem, now it's maxing out my connection. As soon as I disable the proxy it goes back to slooooow mode again, so it 100% works. Why? Who knows. P2P port throttling or something. Baffling. I'm on Virgin Media (UK) btw.

Had constant 2 mb/sec yesterday but if i could max my 50mbit connection (6 mb/sec) with this trick it's worth a try. But i already downloaded all the free games :( except Renegade Ops (was not free for me yesterday although it was listed under "Plus".

Just as a note to new PS+ users. Under Settings > System Settings > Automatic Update you can turn on the auto patching system.

I think it remembers your last 20 games played. I'm not sure if counts all recent installs as part of that number or on top of it but it certainly patched LBP2 last night for me. Saves a lot of tedium launching games and being told to update.

I need some help, GAF.

When they announced this month's PS+ games, i was happy to see Darksiders on the list, since i've been interested in it for a while, but never got around to buying it. Since my PS3 is a bit low on disc space, i wanted to know how big the file size of the game is, therefore i clicked on the download button for the PS+ time trial version of Darksiders the other day (before the store update), but didn't actually download it. Last night i went to download the title from the PS+ freebie section, expecting it to be the full version, but after installing the game it still has that time trial counter if i look up its info. I've just now started it, just to see what will happen after the time trial will run out, but in the meantimne, did anyone have an experience like that, where a previous use of a time trial screwed up a latter free download? Will i have to redownload the game, or will the thing sort itself out after the trial runs out? Have i screwed myself out of playing the full game for free?

I knew something was up with my Infamous 2 install, ME2 install and other large installs were much much shorter but I had no background DL during those.

Enoying Warhamer 40,000 Space Marine, I thought it would suck.

normally when a trial runs out, you will get the option to buy the game. The trial on your XMB is locked. But you can buy the game from the store now.
So I guess that once the 60 min. trial is done, you can find the free game again on the shop.

Edit: (just found this on another forum)
As for the second part: When you download a full game trial, you MUST complete it (as in, play until it expires), before you can buy the actual game. When you do, you don't have to download the whole game again (because you already have it downloaded, it's just not activated), so when you buy the game, wait til it says "Activating please wait..." and then when it starts to download, you can cancel and go back to the trial, because now it's the full game.

Any word on how often and how many new games they'll be adding per month? I'm really digging the first batch of games and if the influx is decent enough I may sign up for a full year of plus. I kind of expect it to be neglected because Sony has been lacking in the support the products you release category lately.

Anyone having some real difficulties with getting things downloaded and installed? Beyond the process just generally being slow, I'm currently on my SIXTH attempt to get Space Marine. I've done it with background downloading as well as just leaving it up there on the devoted download screen but still every time I get an error during installation and I'm left with nothing but corrupted data, forcing me to begin the lengthy 6 gig download process again.

Any ideas?

No idea but it's possible the servers are getting hammered. Download overnight to see if it's any better.

I tried this morning at about 6:30 AM EST and watched the download hit 100%, but it still hit an error midway through the install. It's driving me kind of nuts right now

Same for me. Second download for Space Marine, Darksiders and Outland. All of them gave the corrupted data error while installing. Awesomenauts also took three times to install it.

Thanks! I just went to check and it sorted itself out like in your quote. When i looked up the game in XMB it said the trial has expired, but then the game booted up just fine and now the expiration date under information is the same as my PS+ expiration date. Thankfully everything is fine now, it would have been annoying if i had to redownload the game.

I had the exact same problem with my inFamous 2 review copy.. I downloaded it 7 times.. each time it gave me an error during install.. sometimes even during the download.. it stopped the download process at 24% and my PS3 froze.. had to cancel the download to get my PS3 working again.. I gave up and got a Disc version of the game instead..

Hang on a sec...I'm thoroughly out of the loop here, but you get to keep the games after they expire on the store, as long as your sub is active?

i.e. if I keep my sub active, I'll get 45 games over the next year, and they'll remain as long as the sub remains? Not just 10 at any one time or whatever?

If so...time for me to subscribe more permanently.

The best way to describe it is that the games are yours forever, and you can play them any time as long as you are subscribed to PS+.

if you download it (so that it appears on your download list), before they get removed from The plus part of PSN, then you can play them untill your Plus subscription runs out.. and if your sub runs out, you cannot play the games anymore. BUT when you start a subscription again, you can play the games again..

Yes. As long as your sub is active, you get to play these games. It's not 10 at one time - that's just what's available in the store. Any you've "bought" you can download & play at any time during your sub.

So...if I let my PS+ sub lapse, the catalog I accumulated up to that point doesn't reset? I get access again to my old catalog whenever I renew in future?

Have Sony fixed the problems with renewing subscriptions that had run out now? Mine is fine until October but I remember reading a while ago that some people who re-subscribed were still locked out of some of their previous PS+ games.

Yes.

Edit: RE: PaulLFC'c comment - I have no idea if there are any problems with certain games to being inaccessible. I do know that I never noticed any issues when my sub lapsed for a short time last year.

My PS3 is nearly out of space, and I'm reluctant to replace the HDD, because the machine itself is slowly dying. Is there a way to mark this month's free content as "owned" by me without actually downloading it this month? I'm hoping for a fall pricecut or storage increase before I replace yet another PS3. Thanks.

Sure! You can just add everything to your basket, check out and then skip the actual download step. That's what I did. I only have a 60 GB HDD, so I'm going to have to limit myself to downloading a couple of games at a time.

Downloaded Infamous 2 (EU PS+) and when i wanted to start it i noticed that the game/ps3/psn thinks it's one of the 1 hour trials...so its going to expire in 30min !? Is there any way to fix this myself ? My quick google search tells me i probably need to call the support...

Yes, just "buy" it and don't download it.
