Playstation Portal Cloud Streaming for PS+

This adds some actual value to the portal and now I’m interested in getting one. So this is for only your ps+ library? So what about your ps+ library of ps4 games are those accessible as well?

But everyone that buys the Portal at $150 isn't going to sign up for PlayStation+ Premium .

If they're waiting for a $50 discount they're probably not going to pay for PS+ premium for long

Doesn't have to be "everyone" but the target demographic that you're looking for who maybe can't afford a PS5 off rip, but can afford monthly payments.

I think the next step for PS+ is introducing family plans and integrating Crunchyroll as a value add on the premium tier.

Anyone know if they will update the Android app to allow this? I feel like that would be too coinvent. If not I may night had to sell my PS5 for finance issues a couple years ago but this would be nice, I don't play a lot of PS games.
highly unlikely

I'd assume that they will update the Android app eventually, though they might wait to roll out a more feature complete version and inline with an iOS release.

It's in Beta now and my guess is it won't be feature complete for another 3-6 months. A lot of these features are probably workable or near workable in an alpha build, but not ready for prime time in a public beta.

Wait what!

Please elaborate...
Well for a cloud streaming you don't need a console. But it's kinda tricky like you need two accounts with PS Plus Premium, or the one who is playing on console shouldn't using main account with Premium on it, instead it will be assigned to Portal.

I see .. you mean he can use the cloud services while the main PS5 is occupied? That make sense ... at first I was confused because I though he meant 2 people playing different games on PS5 which didn't make any sense to me ...

Not sure why that would matter being that the games are playing from your console.

Edit: I'm mixed up thought I was in the other thread lol

But that shouldn't be a problem because you can also have a fast SSD in a handheld
How would all that fit on a handheld motherboard?

No, you need a Premium Sub (the highest PS+ tier) and it only streams selected titles from the catalogue, not all your ps+ games.
Yeah, I got that. But technically you don't need a PS5, right?

Makes sense for Sony to limit it to some extent, at least for now.

Not sure what there would be to elaborate on.

This wouldn't require the ownership of a PS5, thus you could use it separately from the person who is playing the PS5 at home on a secondary account. This is a big win since the Portal is kind of useless if you have two kids or something or even if you have a kid who wants to play but you also want to play something else.

Obviously it is still limited to cloud streaming so they have to get that right and they have to enable the ability to play your digital library (which I think already exists on console) but this is a major move in the right direction for them.

Unless there is a licensing concern, I imagine that is coming post beta or post-this beta. On console you can't stream EVERYTHING you own.

My guess is some of the issue is licensing and some of the issue is simply logistical.

I actually wonder how cloud servers manage storage. Does each blade have its own storage and is the game installed natively on that specific blade? I couldn't imagine it is. So does it have access to seperate storage? How does it handle multiple users playing the same games? I'd love to a peak behind the curtain there.

I got it thanks, I misunderstood it initially as being able to operate 2 games on PS5 which didn't make sense.

So how is the quality of streaming cloud vs using your local PS5, does it feel like native after a while or you can see/feel lags/compression artifacts?

Honestly, local stearming from the PS5 felt a bit better than off the cloud to me. Of course it depends on how close you are to whatever data center Sony serves you the games from, so your mileage may vary.

This is nice. I'm going to get one eventually. I had one but returned it. It didn't work at one of the offices I'm at every other week. We got rid of that office though so now I'm only at one office and the portal always worked here.

So, just a few hours ago i bit the bullit and upgraded to a premium subscription in order to try the streaming. I am truly impressed by the quality and responsiveness of the experience. I think the image quality of streaming is even better then remote play via the PS5. It really feels like a native handheld experience to me....never expected that to be honest. So maybe i must consider that streaming really is the future. (I played ghost of tsushima and the last of us via streaming)

I think you’re right about the streaming experience being better than remote play. The picture quality is pristine - I’m playing Like a dragon and I’m actually gobsmacked by how good it looks and plays.

Wow that good huh, maybe the fact they can stream in 4K and downscale to the small screen on the Portal is doing wonders here hidding any possible artifact.

Now if PlayStation would allow us to play our game libraries also I would go all in

Edit- Game library without needing a PS5

For me Remote Play always looked perfect on Portal

I had purchased a portal a while back and returned it. I picked up an excellent condition open box from BB today on the cheap. Maybe I accidentally worked the system and got a discount on something I previously owned? (it has been a while since I returned it so odds are this is a different one :)).

Anyone having issues with the cloud save files? I was playing Kena from the cloud. But later tried to use that save on the ps5 and it fails to load. But then I went back to the cloud on the portal and the save works fine.

it's in beta right now, so that should be possible soon i'd imagine. I hope they don't wait too long, it works very well so no reason to be holding back making it fully available.
