But everyone that buys the Portal at $150 isn't going to sign up for PlayStation+ Premium .
If they're waiting for a $50 discount they're probably not going to pay for PS+ premium for long
highly unlikelyAnyone know if they will update the Android app to allow this? I feel like that would be too coinvent. If not I may night had to sell my PS5 for finance issues a couple years ago but this would be nice, I don't play a lot of PS games.

Another benefit people haven't discussed is that you could use it at home while someone is playing the PS5 (not the same account).
Well for a cloud streaming you don't need a console. But it's kinda tricky like you need two accounts with PS Plus Premium, or the one who is playing on console shouldn't using main account with Premium on it, instead it will be assigned to Portal.Wait what!
Please elaborate...
I see .. you mean he can use the cloud services while the main PS5 is occupied? That make sense ... at first I was confused because I though he meant 2 people playing different games on PS5 which didn't make any sense to me ...Well for a cloud streaming you don't need a console. How would all that fit on a handheld motherboard? Not sure why that would matter being that the games are playing from your console.
Edit: I'm mixed up thought I was in the other thread lol
But that shouldn't be a problem because you can also have a fast SSD in a handheld
That's exactly what this does, right?I hope sony will let you play ps+ games without having a ps5. Could be a gem then
No, you need a Premium Sub (the highest PS+ tier) and it only streams selected titles from the catalogue, not all your ps+ games. That's exactly what this does, right?
Yeah, I got that. But technically you don't need a PS5, right? No, you need a Premium Sub (the highest PS+ tier) and it only streams selected titles from the catalogue, not all your ps+ games.
It would be amazing if you'd get access to the full sony librabry through streamingYeah, I got that. But technically you don't need a PS5, right?
Makes sense for Sony to limit it to some extent, at least for now.
Wait what!

Not sure what there would be to elaborate on.
This wouldn't require the ownership of a PS5, thus you could use it separately from the person who is playing the PS5 at home on a secondary account. This is a big win since the Portal is kind of useless if you have two kids or something or even if you have a kid who wants to play but you also want to play something else.
Obviously it is still limited to cloud streaming so they have to get that right and they have to enable the ability to play your digital library (which I think already exists on console) but this is a major move in the right direction for them.
Honestly, local stearming from the PS5 felt a bit better than off the cloud to me. Of course it depends on how close you are to whatever data center Sony serves you the games from, so your mileage may vary.So how is the quality of streaming cloud vs using your local PS5, does it feel like native after a while or you can see/feel lags/compression artifacts?
So, just a few hours ago i bit the bullit and upgraded to a premium subscription in order to try the streaming. I am truly impressed by the quality and responsiveness of the experience. I think the image quality of streaming is even better then remote play via the PS5. It really feels like a native handheld experience to me....never expected that to be honest. So maybe i must consider that streaming really is the future. I think you're right about the streaming experience being better than remote play. The picture quality is pristine - I'm playing Like a dragon and I'm actually gobsmacked by how good it looks and plays. So, just a few hours ago i bit the bullit and upgraded to a premium subscription in order to try the streaming. Wow that good huh, maybe the fact they can stream in 4K and downscale to the small screen on the Portal is doing wonders here hidding any possible artifact. So, just a few hours ago i bit the bullit and upgraded to a premium subscription in order to try the streaming. For me Remote Play always looked perfect on PortalI think you're right about the streaming experience being better than remote play. The picture quality is pristine - I'm playing Like a dragon and I'm actually gobsmacked by how good it looks and plays.
it's in beta right now, so that should be possible soon i'd imagine. I hope they don't wait too long, it works very well so no reason to be holding back making it fully available. Now if PlayStation would allow us to play our game libraries also I would go all in
Edit- Game library without needing a PS5
Just realized that you can play now without owning a PS5 (I already have Extra so upgrading to premium won't be an issue).
From what I saw on YouTube and for confirmed by chatGPT, yes. You don't need to own a PS5 for cloud streaming. While we're on the subject, I'd like to know if someone could actually verify the "without owning a PS5" part.
Is it possible for someone to buy the PlayStation Portal and stream games from PS Plus Premium without needing to use a PS5 at any point in the process? That is, unbox it, sign into your existing PSN account (with PS Plus Premium) on the PS Portal, and begin playing? Or, do you need to own or have access to a PS5 in order to perform the initial setup?
I never knew this. If true, that shit is amazing. From what I saw on YouTube and for confirmed by chatGPT, yes. You don't need to own a PS5 for cloud streaming.
Important to remember that the cloud streaming beta on Portal is only a subset of PS+ games at the moment. Works great though. From what I saw on YouTube and for confirmed by chatGPT, yes. You don't need to own a PS5 for cloud streaming.

Do Sony allow streaming of Buy and Stream games on the Portal?
Xbox has been rapidly increasing their xCloud Buy and Stream library every two weeks. Closer to 350 games now.

Bump on this thread.

How's the streaming quality now a few months later? And the game library? Could get one for around 180€ and am really tempted
Oh, and how's battery life?
Thanks, just what I wanted to know. Probably biting the bullet next week. They also added Cyberpunk (without the DLC), so it's probably the best way to play it in handheld mode.Streaming quality is fantastic, honestly. And I try a lot of streaming services (GeForce Now, Stadia RIP, Switch 1 cloud games, Xcloud, GameFly, old PS Now), feels « local » on the Portal.
The game library grows every month, so it all depends on your taste. You'll find some of Sony's 1st party titles (Last of Us remake, God of War Ragnarok, Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank Rift Appart, Horizon), and recent 3rd party ones (Yakuza The Man Who Erased his name, Hogwarts Legacy, Jedi Survivor, Forespoken, FF7 Remake Integrade - from what is interesting to me)
Battery life is pretty good, as the device itself doesn't do much
You can turn off the light of the mic in the settings![]()
This thing takes ages to update … previous owner had it just lying around, it was totally empty and on the first software.
Will test it thoroughly![]()
Thanks, just did it.You can turn off the light of the mic in the settings
I considered the Deck but 150€ was a steal bargain. Had PS Extra anyway and it was just a 17€ upgrade for Premium.I got close to buying this but decided on a steamdeck oled as it's a much better value.
Its handling is way worse though.I got close to buying this but decided on a steamdeck oled as it's a much better value.
So did you own a PS4 before? You said you had Extra before buying the Portal.I considered the Deck but 150€ was a steal bargain. Had PS Extra anyway and it was just a 17€ upgrade for Premium.
