A cheap TV for the kids to watch SpongeBob on would probably cost less than this, if that's what makes one want a Portal. Just admit you want the new shiny toy, guys. It's a gaming forum after all. We understand.
I like that when Hollow Knight came out on Switch the input lag was deemed unacceptable and borderline unplayable by some, but the lag on the Portal is apparently perfectly fine even if it looks a bit worse.
Time will tell how successful this will be... let's wait and see.

I say this as a fan of Sony in general. Did ppl not see the writing on the wall ages ago? They have been putting their foot in any revenue stream they can since the PS5.
The consumer laps up everything PlayStation. From the over priced Dualsense Edge, the different tier headphones, the overly expensive earbuds, their unnecessary overpriced monitor. It's all overpriced shit for consumers who either don't know any better or have some sort of FOMO or just need to have every accessory they put out.
Their greed knows no bounds. Their ego has been riding sky high since the PS5. Even their Plus tiers have gone to shit and increased price significantly.
It's funny, I can buy a second used digital PS5 for cheaper than the retail price of this PlayStation Portal.

That would be sweet. This product is appealing to me as well, but I'm gonna see how well it does before I jump in. I was able to pick up a Vita tv for $40.

Yep I get 5~ hours streaming ps5 to steamdeck. Around 7.5 watts so
40Whr /7.5 = 5.3 hours

The switch now supports bluetooth but did not for the majority of its life cycle. It required an adapter. There is no mandatory proprietary audio connection like the Vita cards were so that comparison makes zero sense. The Portal has a 3.5 jack which makes it easily compatible with Bluetooth by adding an adapter. You're so appalled by $200 it's clouding your judgment. You're praying for it to fail. It's $200. Just like the vita not supporting SD cards was a good move.
Switch supports bluetooth btw.

GeForce now on stream deck is pretty much flawless for me. Better graphics too. Plus cheaper.
Sony really goofed on this one, they could have made a PS Vita 2 and owned the growing market.

Makes as much sense as comparing the portal to a can opener. With the comparatively minimal compute required to stream a game vs natively run it, they should have aimed much higher. In saying that, most people will not be playing for 5 hours straight, I just find the comparison irrelevant.
Edit: According to others, the Steam Deck nets one around 5 hours of streaming PS5. Make’s your original comparison even more misguided.

I have the Logitech g cloud. Used it for GeForce now (worked well), and game pass (tried it and it was ok, but not great), emulation (Fight Night, NFL 2 K, etc which worked good), but eventually only used it for streaming from PS5 (which worked fantastic for me). I was happy with it until I saw the Portal and now I can’t make myself use the Gcloud because the controls can’t compare to Dualsense.
I already know the streaming works great for me and I also want the great controls. The bigger screen is also a plus. I will be able to watch over my little boy and still access PS5. My innocent boy will just know I’m there but not the ruthless killer of orcs I am (been playing Shadow of Mordor).

Bluetooth is fantastic. I use it every day in car or with music or talking on the phone. It just is not good enough for gaming. A lot of times, gamers will downplay audio and chalk up things like VSS to placebo. There's a naivete that keeps it from evolving and Sony is looking to push through with the Audeze acquisition and an attempt to go into premium gaming audio. Why hamstring it with a weak-link like BT audio when they can expand on their fantastic strides they have been making since PS5 launched?

I'm in Australia, retail price of PlayStation Portal is $329 AUD. Second hand Digital PS5's are going for $300 AUD on Facebook marketplace. Some even with 2 controllers and a couple games lol
So for someone wanting to buy this to play in the bedroom and they already have a TV in there for example, a second PS5 is a much better option. Obviously if you want to literally play outside the home or not use a TV then yeah PS Portal. For me, I just want to take gaming to the bedroom, and with a second PS5, I don't even need to stream. The fact that I can get a second PS5 for slightly cheaper makes the price of this a little crazy IMO.

Mate, there's heaps of genuine ones in my area on facebook marketplace, local pick up off genuine people with good track record ratings. The normal going rate in Australia is $300 AUD for a digital PS5 secondhand. The PlayStation Portal is $329 AUD. You do the math.

Sadly, the 3rd party psplay app still runs circles around the official remote play setup. Big input lag difference.
Also, has any reviews touched base on the response time of the screen and or motion blur? It looks terrible judging from the reviews.
I was planning on buying this, but now I'm unsure. Might just turn my note 10 plus into a glorified gaming setup with the razer kishi when I upgrade.

I wouldn't go that far. I feel it's important to remember that Sony has done a very good job of maintaining the overall quality of their brand and that maintenance is why they can overcharge. I don't buy Sony everything, but I do buy a lot of Sony products (not just playstation) and I know that, while I will often pay more than I might otherwise pay for a better product from a less well-known brand, I am confident that, generally, a Sony product will provide a solidly mid-tier to lower high-end experience in a user-friendly reliable aesthetically pleasing package.I say this as a fan of Sony in general. That kind of brand dependability is well-earned and it's fair that it comes at a cost. If it wasn't a fair value proposition, then Sony simply wouldn't be able to charge what they charge. Market forces and all that jazz.

I agree but my gripe is the pricing, particularly here in Australia, we are charged a lot for tech. I have nothing against product or quality but the profit margin. I don't expect things to be cheap, I don't expect them not to make a good profit but man $339 for a controller, more than $100 more for an Elite 2 controller in comparison. It's also half or a little over half the price of a console. It doesn't need to be that high. I somewhat have experience and knowledge on price points and Sony especially this gen have been price gouging a little bit. Not GPU levels of price gouging but they are trying to make serious bank. It's pretty widely known that most of Sony's products are a cash grab whether you see it or not.

You’re giving false information. It can stream from other networks as long as it’s good, even a cell phone hotspot with a good connection.
About 9:15 he connects through cell phone.
