Playstation Vita western launch thread | It only does everything, everywhere.

Adam Sessler on his soapbox thing mentioned this a week or so ago, gamers know about it, but everyone else........not so much.....

my uneducated guess.....why spend the money on the mass marketing, let the core gamers get it in their hand and then have the system sell itself.

look at the Wii, how many non-gamers knew about that when it released? now, it seems like 90% of american households have a Wii, Apple product, and Coca-Cola, like it's standard issue or something.

again, i don't know anything about nothing, but its like a sit back, seed some units into the wild and watch it grow.

It was being advertised everywhere--television, news programs, ads before movie previews in theaters, etc.

does anyone know if the vita has a game clock widget kinda like how the 3ds does, something that tells you how long you played a game for that day and in total? idk why but i really like that feature about the 3ds

It doesn't but I really hope they update it to have one.

I don't think so, but yeah that is a neat feature.

rolled through gamestop this morning to pick up a Circle Pad Pro (man that thing is UNCOMFORTABLE), and I remember reading that they'd have Vita display units.

as I love new hardware I thought I'd check it out

and it's enclosed in a plastic bubble... not even running a rolling demo, some error screen.

=/

I went to my the gamestop close to where I live and they also had the Vita enclosed in a plastic bubble, but one week later they took it out of the bubble and is now held by an attachment on the bottom. Just be patient, maybe visit this weekend or next week to check again.

yeah i hope so because games like hot shots i know i can easily put 50 hours into that game maybe even close to 100 over time and i doubt they have an in game clock for that kind of game. Its just a little feature i do enjoy when developers put that into their games

Looks like I was smart to keep my Best Buy 32GB memory card order locked in.
Gamestop.com was lying about the ship date of their cards.
Just got bumped from the 7th to the 14th... hence no chance to land the card in time for FEB launch in Canada. :(

So maybe someone could explain to me why Sony would create a FEB that only a hardcore crowd would buy with an AR minigame and a tiny card? Do they not understand who will actually be buying this thing early?

Sony Canada does... which is why they bundled Uncharted: Golden Abyss in as part of the deal with Best Buy earlier last month.

Technically Little Deviants shows off 'all the whacky features' that the mainstream would be interested in seeing over their shoulder.

It's more of a case of them knowing the hardcore will buy it rather than knowing what they want.

With BigBig being shut down, I'm not sure Sony cares too much about LittleDeviants. Uncharted, they want you to buy. I don't think the logic goes any further.

I filed my taxes today, and it was much more than expected.

Looks like waiting for this was never in my cards.

You and me both, mang.

I'm undecided on the memory card size I want, maybe I'll just get a 8GB card and hold out on a 32GB card until prices go down.

I decided on a Wi-Fi only model and Asphalt, though. I have a bunch of PSP downloads and Minis I can use as well.

EDIT: Maybe I'll get the Launch Bundle, it depends on if anyone still has them in stock when I get my tax refund.

Little Deviants isn't an AR minigame. It's actually really decent fun and shows off all the features nicely. Everyone just has something against it because ZOMG MINIGAMEZ

I would think the most important goal for Sony is gaining an install base. I guess it just doesnt make sense to offer a FEB and throw garbage at it.

SCEA hasn't offered any deals that I am interested in. In fact, no retailer has in the states. May have to wait at least a month to see how it unfolds.

I'm really excited about E3 either way.

I really shouldn't be, but I'm hoping Sony has at least half the new game announcements for Vita that Nintendo did for 3ds last year. Especially if they're not in a rush to put out the ps4

does gravity daze have a release date in NA yet? im too lazy to read this thread :D

Nope, just "launch window".

Do you mean the E3 2010?
Because last year Nintendo hadn't many new game announcements for the 3ds.

I don't understand the 'hate' for the FEB bundle. You're paying extra to get the console early, fine. Everyone in this thread, that wants the Vita, is probably a big fan of handheld gaming, Sony and/or a hardcore gamer. We're the kind of people that import games from Japan for three times the price they cost just because they won't be released here. Therefore getting a less than great bundle is a bonus as I imagine a lot of us would buy the Vita for an extra $50-100 on it's own just to get it a week early.

I know if there was a way for me to get a Vita on the 15th in the UK I would pay a little extra.

If you're the type who is willing to import, why didn't you import a Vita? The 'hate' for the FEB is the fact that Sony at the last minute turned it from a deal to overpaying. Had it been like this since the beginning, there would be less complaining, but man does it suck to get yourself setup and then suddenly Sony devalues the bundle and makes it so instead of saving money, you're paying more than the value of the contents.

Finally scoped out the Vita at GameStop after getting finished with classes this morning. The nubs and buttons were definitely smaller than I was expecting, but they felt good. The system is very sleek and the screen is fantastic - very responsive. I'll definitely be picking one up on launch day.

So far my gamelist is:
Dynasty Warriors NEXT
Shinobido 2
Wipeout 2049

I'll also probably check out a few PSP games that I missed out on from the PSN Store, like Valkyria Chronicles 2. Uncharted is way too overpriced at $50 so I'll definitely pass on that for the moment. The game I'm most hyped about is definitely Gravity Rush, it needs a U.S. release date STAT.

Man, you spent 3 pages complaining about this 2 days ago and then yesterday, why is it that people can't just buy what they want?

Yea, we get it, Sony is stupid and devalued the FEB, big deal, let people enjoy their purchases and stop derailing the thread complaining about the FEB like Sony was forcing you to buy it.

Are there any solid PSN games worth grabbing now? Probably looking for a decent RPG if one's available to hold me over until Phantasy Star Portable 2 (hopefully) gets a compatibility patch.

Marty Chinn, I respect you because you're consistent and persistent. :D

Ys 1-2-3-7
MHP2nG
P3P if that's your thing

But the Ys games should hold you for a while.

If you'll notice the key part of that sentence was "just because they won't be released here". Obviously the Vita is getting released worldwide :/

People can do what they want with their money and it is incredibly easy to cancel a pre-order or change the order to a different bundle. Therefore there's no problem and as Maxx said you've spent way too much time complaining about how people spend THEIR money.

Am I right in thinking that the 'region lock' only limits which PSN account you can use with the system rather than the software? I'm hoping to play a combination of Japanese and UK titles and so figure I'll link it to my Japanese PSN account and download the Japanese games, then just use retail copies of the UK titles.

Monster Hunter or God Eater might fill your Phantasy Star Portable 2 vibe.

I've never had a chance to enjoy any of the Ys games, so this may be worth my time. And I didn't realize MH would work on Vita out the gate, so I'll have to grab that until they release a new MH game by default. <3

Thanks!

I'd never heard of God Eater until now. Looks REALLY cool...I'll add this to my list, too.

I believe that would work fine. I think the only problem could be with trophies but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Odd question, but will all psp originals have psv upgrades?
What I mean is will we be able to map controls to the second analog stick for all games you can purchase via psn?

Thinking of picking up some old titles I missed on the psp to round out my PSV game library.

Hey Marty, I decided to hold on to the PS3 after all. I figure I'll use it for the occasional game and Bluray. Instead I got rid of my 360. Thanks for talking me out of it!

What's that Tails of the Sky game and is it on PSN?

hehehe, completely forgot about it. I mean it's not like we'll ever get the sequels right ? :(

They don't need to be upgraded because the emulator takes care of that and you can just map the controls for any game, here watch this vid :

For you, I think that was the better choice. Did you decide if you were going to get a Vita yet? Or are you on the fence still?

that would be fine. Bear in mind you won't be able to play online with any UK titles that have online passes (most sony games seem to).

Yes you can map buttons to the second analog stick for all games. It's part of the emulation features.

I think Amazon.com is listing it as a May release. With that being said, at the moment, I don't trust any of their Vita release dates. They're missing some even for the 22nd, other are just plain off.

The Vita 3G/WiFi bundle is definitely a great deal. The First Edition Bundle is not bad either. It all depends on your needs. Both 4Gb and 8Gb are insufficient for me. I will only use these low-capacity cards to try out loose games on the Japan PSN. I need a 32Gb. Doesn't make both bundles a loser just because the memcards are too small for my needs.

Love the free one month 3G subscription and the free game on activation though. The FEB's limited edition case and Little Deviants are icing on the cake. Getting it one week earlier is also a bonus. Didn't expect to get hyped until I saw the OP. There are tons of Vita questions in my mind to answer.

But honestly Sony, if you had offered an early Vita PS Suite SDK at the same time, I would pay another sum on top to jump in. It would make the one week headstart all the more meaningful.
