Maybe they just forgot to give it a discount? Podcast said the games weren't even supposed to be searchable in the store until next Tuesday.

With Amazon.ca breaking street date, I wonder if other Canadian retailers will follow suit.
Especially now that Vita games are evidently up on PSN.

Seriously a $3-$4 discount on download version of games!? I mean it's a discount but with retail sales they won't really compete. Here's hoping the PSN.....errrrr SEN will have steam like sales in the future.

There's no real confirmation of Amazon breaking street date yet. Not until a Vita is in someone's hands.

Sure there will be sales , like for Ps3 and PSP content.

Finally decided in the FEB. I originally preordered the wifi vita when it was first annnounced on amazon. Once the 3g bundle came up with the 8gig card I switched to that. As it is getting closer and closer to launch, I REALLY don't want to wait an extra week. I have my eyes set on the PDP pull and go case, but I guess i will see how much I like the case that comes with the FEB.

Getting a decent tax return this year eases the pain a little bit. I am mainly going to go with retail release for games, unless there is a huge sale on the PSN store. Getting a small 10% discount isn't worth the cons of going full digital. I like not having to buy a 32gig memory card and having the option to sell/trade games if I feel like it.

So far I have preordered from amazon

Vita FEB
Hot Shots Golf
Wipeout 2048
Lumines
HORI screen protector

I am debating on virtua tennis and katamari, but I know that the three games I am getting will be more than enough for me to play for the time being. Have no idea why Amazon isn't listing Virtua Tennis.

They're guaranteeing priority delivery by Thursday on standalone Wi-Fi units right now. For what it's worth.
I suppose it could just be a bogus listing until we start seeing shipping confirmations.

Will it be possible to buy the first edition at brick and mortar shops next week(assuming they don't sell out)? Or do I need to pre-order it first?

That's crazy, that seems like selling a new Xbox with no hard drive and not packing in at least some save storage. is best buy and gs telling people about this? Seems like there will be some upset folks who buy a vita and can't save a game.

Guess I'll have to buy the Amazon deal now...

Woooooah, so some people are going to pick up a vita and uncharted or mlb or something and find out no progress can be saved? That seems like an issue...

I don't expect demand for it (or Vita for that matter) to be high at all. I anticipate anyone being able to walk into a store and buy one, no probs.

They did exactly that for the first several years, with a seperate model that included it. Nevermind that this is exactly how Playstation systems have worked up until the PS3 and with a brief exception for PSP 1000.

Of course, the inability to play some games at all without a memory card is a new wrinkle. It's part of why we have these warnings on the front of nearly all games rather than kept on the back like they used to be.

Some questions:

Is the starter pack necessary? Like wouldn't headphones come with the vita?

Also, what's the best armor-type case? I was looking at this:

http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita/accessories/ps-vita-armorshell/98466

I had a rubber grip case for psp and hopefully they make one for this too

And any thoughts on the trigger grip? Looks goofy but from what I played today it might be useful. Then again, the system was tethered and I'm a huge germaphobe and wasn't holding it real tight either lol

I do see some people running into an issue with that. Let's just hope that Best Buy/Gamestop/etc. employees are smart enough to let customers know about it before they go home. I am sure it will be an issue. Sony should have at least bundled a 1/2/4 gig card with the system.

I'm sure practically everybody in this thread knows about it, but especially with essentially no marketing to the public, I can definitely see it being a problem.

If they are I have to imagine it's due to a glitch.

There are going to be some sad kids and pissed of parents come release day. I wouldn't want to be working at a video game store that day.

Vita doesn't come with headphones.

Yeah, see to me that says "this game will use this much to save on your system" not "this game requires 64Mb of save space that doesn't come in your system and requires you to buy a memory stick."

Least I found out now though.

To me that reads "Memory Card Required"

IIRC on the Vita's box somewhere it says a Memory Card is needed for full use.

If "memory card required" isn't enough to tell you it "requires you to buy a memory stick" i'm not sure what would :P

I know Sony's gotten into an obnoxious habit of throwing more and more crap on the front of the case (and this is probably doubling as a real example why this is an awful idea beyond messing up the art), but they NEVER put on the front how much memory you needed to save a game until now, nor did they introduce this to PS3 games, so that alone should be setting off alarm bells.

I agree with that to an extent. I mean games on the PS3, a system with built in storage, also have listed required storage as well. That doesn't mean customers are expected to go out and buy a Hard Drive, instead it means you need to have this much free on your hard drive. The cover of the Vita games can be read much in the same way.

Yeah. :)

Read it though, doesn't say "memory card required" it says "memory required 64mB." I thought games on most systems said something like that just to let you know how big saves are.

No biggie though. Just means I have to buy one of Sony's overpriced sticks.

still wonder if there will be further discounts for Plus members

to me this post reads as proof that reading comprehension is sadly lacking

re: the internal memory issue, Sony is getting revenge against the world for not giving them enough credit for packing the PS3 with extra things like rechargeable controllers while Microsoft and Ninty nickel and dimed us with AAs and got away with it, among other things. This may be taking it a bit far though.

Ok someone has to make a Hot Shots thread now that we have so many people on board.

I'm seriously amazed that there is async play -- I mean we have a Carcassonne thread that's been going for almost two years now because of how great async play is, and that was always the tough part about getting tournaments together on the PS3. Though I'd say we did a pretty nice job anyway :P

So I just played the Vita in a gamestop in Frisco (I'm on vacation, normally live in germany). ;D

I have to say it's quite nice. Played Uncharted, Wipeout and Gravity. I'm sure that the Vita will be able to produce graphics which are on PS3 level at some point. Uncharted and Wipeout are close already and they are launch games. Display is amazing and it's quite amazing that it's a touchscreen as well. I totally forgot that at first. :D Couldn't test menues etc. besides the overview but the system was just super fast and slick like you'd expect it from a iphone or so. Definitly high quality. Buttons and stuff are fine, just a bit small but I guess that's how it works.

I totally could imagine a PC/Vita future but I guess there will be great PS4 exclusives.

The hard-drive comparison is better. The PS3 uses a standard laptop hard drive that anyone makes. Sony gained absolutely nothing by doing that, and lost out on money given people shill out for MS's overpriced HDDs.

A-sync gaming works well on my schedule. Does Modnation have A-Sync at least?

Yes.

UMMMMM

the regular wifi vita order i just put through an hour ago on amazon.ca says shipping soon... it said not yet shipped before.

i really hope they break the street date lol.

Hey, I was just bringing up an observation. No need for a jab. :)

If the vita boxes say "memory card required" then that's good, but I haven't seen one that has yet. Most new games tell you how much space you need, it's something I don't think twice about anymore.

Hey, maybe it's just me though!

Yes.

That actually does make it tempting for me.

The only thing stopping me from springing early right now (even with the Uncharted bundle pre-ordered) is the absence of 32GB cards.

Sony's new marketing strategy? Get Vita's in the hands of those eager and get them to it off to their friends before release.
