Is it possible to play any type of genre in an online match via 3G? Obviously shooters and fighting games are out of the question, but what about turn based strategy games? card games? mini-games?

Asynchronous multiplayer games, i.e. you're taking turns and not directly connected to your opponent(s). Hot Shots Golf has an asynchronous play mode.

GPS is a chip that triangulates your location based on satellites.
3G is data

These two things do go hand-in-hand as when you're using data, you're connected to a cell tower, and that can help you get a lock on your location faster since the satellites know whereabout to look for you, but 3G is not necessary for GPS to function.

example:

Car GPS unit don't have data plans but can get your location just fine.

Oh, nice. I'll consider a 3G model when I get a revision down the road.

Is Ridge Racer PS1 games available on the PSN to play on the Vita??? How do PS1 games look on the vita? WOuld I be better off getting the Vita Ridge Racer over the PS1 games? I am a huge RR fan :P

Vita can't run PS1 games yet.

Thanks. I'm fairly nubish on the CMA. Is it available now? And is that for PC use? My PS3 is really old, and has practically no HDD space left.

Yeah, CMA is available now and it works on PC and Mac.

GPS may not require a data plan, but to use apps like T@G you are still going to need some network access to download the tags, upload yours, find where they are located, etc. Don't expect to walk around downtown and use T@G on your 3G Vita without some kind of network access.

T@G looks like a pretty cool idea but it relies very heavily on people other than yourself actually using it out in public. If it was also available for android and iOS then I could see that happening, but as it stands...

Might have to change my pre-order to 3g, ugh.

My theory from the start was I'd rather get the 3G/GPS model 'just incase' than get the Wifi only model and 'wished I hadn't'.

No one knows what games or apps will be in the works that will utilize this feature but imo it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, but it won't use that much. I only have a 150mb per month data plan on my mobile and I use Facebook, message boards and news sites every day on it. On a rare occasion I have used up that data a few days before the end of the month. Remember, you're not using 3G to play online, just send/receive info/swap items.

Interesting. Amazon only charged me $29.99 for 2048 for some reason.

The original MSRPs for Hot Shots and WipEout were $29.99, Sony released marketing materials like 2 weeks ago with those prices. Shortly after they raised the MSRP to $39.99 and most retailers followed suit, but Amazon kept their lower price points. If you go to the actual Amazon listing, it shows the MSRP of $39.99, with their price at $29.99.

t@g sounds cool and all but I dont see how many games are going to take advantage of the GPS much further than that.
The best thing I can think of is MGS PO and MGS PW with the recruiting via wifi hotspots. I guess they could do something similar with GPS but even then, I dont see myself taking advantage of it much.

That said, Id probably get the 3G model if I could buy it standalone for slightly less money. I want a 32GB card but both 3G bundles come with 4 or 8. I also hate having to sign up for 3G in order to get the free PSN game. At this point, Id literally be paying 50 dollars more JUST for the GPS in case a game I want might use it.

I've never played HSG so excuse me for the newbie questions but how does that type of multiplayer work? You say it's taking turns but does it mean that a match can last months if no one takes his/her turn? So I can just take my turn and decide whenever to take it again?

That's what I'm thinking too, the only thing that scares me is that Sony will announce a 4G version down the road, but I'm trying to be strong and stay with the 3G.

I'm in the same boat -- I've already set my heart on a 32GB card, mostly because I've never owned a PSP and I want to catch up on some oldies I've been missing out on. I also have a smartphone I pay quite a bit of money for per month, I really do not need another 3G device needing its own plan. The part that bugs me the most is it's month-to-month. If they offered plans where you could buy say 1 Gig of data and use it as slow or fast as you want with no monthly limits, I'd be a lot more interested.

I take my turn, it notifies you that it's now your turn. You take your turn, it notifies me that it's now my turn. Obviously a game is going to get held up if one of us takes days to take our turn, but I'm going to assume that you'll be able to play multiple asynchronous matches simultaneously. Maybe someone already playing the game can confirm and provide more details.

THe guy that posted the Fifa 12 video replied to me:

1. There is barely any slowdown mate, maybe just a tiny bit when all players are in the box but not noticeable. Crowd does not move btw, they are stiff cutouts
2. The graphics are incredible, being able to take the full fledged fifa with you wherever you go is just something to be extremely happy about
3. It feels really great, I cannot explain it, it just feels so good playing this game. I will make more videos when I have time, thanks for the questions!

Barely any slowdown? ie there is some.

Only when there are lots of players in the box? ie the single worst time for slowdown to occur

Am cry

It's only designed to work with a Vita, not a PSP.

Ok so maybe there was some confusion here.

My initial question was "can you transfer PSP save files to the Vita?"

You said - "yes, you can do this with the CMA."

Did you mean PSP games? And not saves?

Glad i live in the UK where 4G basically doesn't exist :D

Well here in Puerto Rico only T-mobile and AT&T have 4G (fucking Sprint), so it would be tempting to have 4G. Ever since I tried 4G on my girlfriend's Galaxy SII (AT&T) I've become spoiled and basically stopped using 3G. To be fair, the 3G that Sprint provides here is shit, while AT&T provides an amazing 3G (and now 4G) service. I know lots of Americans hate AT&T but for some reason they are amazing here, go figure. Verizon here is just ok, better than Sprint, worse than AT&T.

I've been checking Amazon every day...I'm just waiting for my "Not Yet Shipped" to change to "Shipping Soon". Next Wednesday is going to be pretty amazing.

Just in case anybody in the UK is looking to trade in their PSP I figured I'd post the prices I got today.

PSP 1000

CEX £32 cash £42 credit
Game and Gamestation £25 credit £31.50 when traded in for a Vita/Vita games
HMV £27 if you only have the PSP and charger £32 if you have the box etc.

I figure this will give people a decent idea of where to look when trading in. I'm going to trade my PSP and 8gb card to CEX for £41 cash (£9 for the card). I figure this is a decent deal since I won't be playing it anymore and that pays for another game or two.

Wow, that actually sounds kind of nice. Would be nice if future games had "real" multiplayer when you're playing on Wi-fi and switch to asynchronous multiplayer when you're on 3G network, but maybe that wouldn't work as it would divide the system in half and there would be less players (since 3G players wouldn't be able to find Wi-fi ones and vice versa).

CMA creates folders on your computer so just plug your PSP into your computer and copy the saves into the save data folder that CMA created. Then from there you can move them onto your Vita. Easy!

That's a start. Honestly, I cancelled my preorder when I heard more about the possible slowdowns, but I will certainly order again if we can clear this up.

I'm assuming that GS demo units are running FIFA off a mem card, which are confirmed to load a bit slower than retail game cards. I'm guessing that might be the reason for slowdowns to some; the guy that replied on YT is playing a retail version...

Apparently embargo on this game ends Monday morning; we should get some impressions / reviews soon and we can clear this up once and for all.

I would also like to confirm if there's a more zoomed-in camera.

I own a nice smartphone. The Vita won't have enough GPS-based apps for me to care about it, and whatever it is I'll more than likely have a better app for already on my phone. Put all of my Vita money towards a Wifi version and a 32g card to store all my old PSP games, load up with demos, and have room for all the games that I know I'd never trade in. Only buying Lumines and HSG at launch (PSN versions). Call me a pessimist, but I think it's going to flop, which means I'll be picking up the other launch games I want pretty cheaply in a month or two.

Oh me too, definitely. Month to month is shit, imo. There are times when I barely use 2GBs on my phone and I use that a lot. I dont see me ever hitting 2GB on the Vita. I could always go with the cheap 250MB option but thats still 15 bucks and a big ripoff.

Wow, I didnt know that. Thats awesome.

Did anyone order an accessories from PDPs website directly? How long did they take to ship?

You're spending a lot of money on a flop? why?

I'd spend $250 to play Zelda HD. IE if I thought the Wii-U was going to flop, but launched with a kick-ass first party game.

Likewise, he may spend $250 to play Uncharted Vita, or a few other early planned games. Or maybe he's a collector of systems. Some of us will get new devices no matter what :D

Sweet, more demos :

- Ridge Racer 22nd of Feb
- Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen later
- Touch My Katamary in March

Excellent, although I think the reviews surfacing next week will help swing me in the right direction. I'm really keen on hearing more on Dungeon Hunters and Shinobido 2 so I am glad there is atleast a demo for one of them.

I can imagine downloading up a storm come launch day. Hope the store can handle it!

I've purchased failed retro consoles as well so I'm OK with being a part of failed gaming history. Right out of the gate, however, the Vita has a lineup superior to all of those failed consoles combined (3DO, Jag, 32x, etc). :P

People have commented that their shipping is surprisingly fast
