Pokémon Community Thread 3: "Soon, All of Hoenn Will Be Under Its Withering Glare…"

SO MUCH CRAZY
Forcing thr the player to use the new Pokémon was one of the best things about Generation V. I love that Game Freak had the conviction to stand behind their new creations. It's why I was so disappointed that so many people in the BW thread were asking to be traded old Pokémon before they even started the game. Just go out there and make new favourites.

I nearly wrote off XY after my first encounter was a Pidgey. The new stuff should be the first and most prominent things encountered in the wild.

Also, Gen V designs are amazing.

I like having a lot of choices but that doesn't mean I don't give any of the new Pokemon a chance. Even if Gen 5 had as much choice as Gen 6 did, I would still get Stoutland simply because I love the design of it. I just pick Pokemon based on their design, not by stats! (not saying the other way is wrong)

I was disappointed too, but y'know, even after playing gen 5 four times, it had so many good new Pokemon that it leaked into gen 6 a little. Honestly I'll be satisfied with a gen 5-style Pokedex refresh every other gen.

I think the ideal ratio of old-new pokemon is about 80%. Plenty of room for some older pokemon while giving the new ones the space to shine.

Also can emolga never be in a regional pokedex ever again please.

Or preferably it should be retconned out of existence alongside Pachirisu. Actually, dispose of all the filthy little electric rodents.

They sicken me.

Wild Pokemon aside, the one aspect I really liked about XY's amount of old Pokemon in the regional dex is the variety of Pokemon with the trainers. Usually there are fierce repeats everywhere (gyms are the worst offenders), with XY when a trainer battle starts you know it's got a good chance of being something you didn't fight yet.

I've been thinking and I really hope the next region is based on Australia, there is so much they could do with it for really cool areas. Imagine a big city based on Sydney with the Opera House being a gym, a water route based on the Great Barrier Reef, a few routes based on the outback, KOALA AND KANGAROO POKEMON!

Anyways, yeah, that's what I want...

I wouldn't mind this at all honestly, with gen VI style Pokedexes on the even gens.

I think Hoenn had a perfect balance of new and old Pokemon. Not counting events there were 200 Pokemon with 135 of them being new.

So I just finished playing trozei for the first time, and I found it fairly enjoyable. I'm normally not a puzzle gamer, but pokemon spin offs usually break me of that trend. Anyways, I'm curious what everyone's favorite spinoff games are. Pokemon conquest is probably my favorite spinoff because it just blew me away the first time. I didn't think it was possible to mix feudal japan, a tactical rpg, and pokemon together, but it does and I love it!

Pokemon based on Australia? So every Pokemon's secondary type will be poison?

And yes Pokemon Conquest! We need a sequel based on another region and history.

Can't be "truthfact" with BW2 having the PWT, so that can't be C, and HG/SS has that awful level balance/Pokemon distribution, so I wouldn't even put it in S tier. Otherwise, pretty close.

It seems like my Pokédex progress has managed to slow down into a crawl in Y.

I'm still kind of hopeful, though. I did it last time with a much smaller one, after all. I only have to deal with about 30 more.

Because the first versions are never really the complete product I never try to get a complete Pokedex until the third version/s.

BW2 having the admittedly awesome PWT doesn't make up for the rest of the game being shit. Emerald has the best version of the post game tournament area, but that's just the cherry on the icing - it's not the sole redeeming factor. HG/SS's Pokemon distribution is awesome and I won't hear a bad word said against it. It does have a level problem that makes the campaign really easy, but aside from possibly Pokemon Yellow, the entire series has incredibly easy campaigns, so the fact HG/SS is slightly worse than the rest of them in an area they are all really mediocre in doesn't really count against it.

I respectfully disagreeYOU'RE CRAZY

Unova's route layout might not be amazing, but each individual route is brilliantly made, twice as big as it appears on first glance. And in terms of navigation, Unova spoiled me instantly by allowing me to travel the whole region without the use of HMs. No way I could go back to the mess that was Sinnoh after that.

Monster preferences are the definition of subjective, and BW did have a limited selection of water types. But it's nowhere near as bad as DPs Fire drought. Not when frillish/jellicent exist.
Diamond and Pearl did have a lot of problems, but I actually remember them quite fondly. I really liked the Sinnoh region. Maybe it was just because it was the first game in pseudo 3D? There were a lot of memorable areas though, especially the northern snow routes. I also liked around half of the Pokedex, so Sinnoh definitely wins out in that regard. Gen IV was also the first to introduce online battling and I had so much fun with that. Oh, and using HM's to get around a region has never really bothered me to be honest.

As for the Unova region...it wasn't just the route layout. Everywhere I visited, whether it be Towns, Cities or the routes in between just felt...dull and uninspired. I remember being very excited to finally get to Castelia City and once I made it there I realized it was just a big empty husk with nothing to do. There are some nice areas that are locked out until after the Elite Four, though.

Again, the main reason I dislike Gen V is because I hated most of the Pokemon designs. I had managed to stay relatively in the dark on the Unova Pokedex going into Black/White, and then was disappointed by almost everything that I encountered. I LOVED SmugleafSnivy and was happy to choose him as my starter since the other two sucked anyway. Then it evolved into...Serperior. I was let down by evolutions quite a few times actually. Tirtouga becoming Carracosta sucked. I caught a Scraggy (which is a design from Gen V that is adorable), but it evolved into Scrafty which I think is fairly ugly. I challenged the Elite Four with five Pokemon for the first time ever in a Pokemon game (Serperior, Unfezant, Excadrill, Krookodile and Carracosta) because I couldn't find anything else worth adding. Of my team, I only really liked Krookodile. Unfezant was for Fly, Carracosta was for Surf and Excadrill was kept only because he was a powerhouse.

Most of the legendaries were pretty awful too, especially the three musteteers and the My Little Pony Keldeo. Zekrom and Reshiram are passable I guess, but Kyurem is pretty bad. Meloetta sucks too. Genesect is pretty great though, he was the best legendary since Rayquaza.

I also didn't like that a LOT of the Pokemon were just thematic retakes on Kanto designs. They were trying to recreate the feel Gen I and it didn't work for me at all.

Watchog line = Raticate line (Gen 1 rat)
Musharna line = Hypno line (Dream-Eaters)
Zebstrika line = Rapidash line (Elemental Horse-like Pokemon)
Gigalith line = Golem line (Rock beast. Also evolves by trade)
Swoobat line = Golbat line (The bat in caves)
Excadrill line = Dugtrio line (The mole)
Audino = Chansey
Conkeldurr line = Machamp line (Self-explanatory. Also evolves by trade)
Seismitoad line = Poliwrath line (Looser connection because Tadpole-Toad but still)
Throh/Sawk = Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan
Garbodor line = Muk line (Waste monster)
Amoongus line = Electrode line (Pokeball themed Pokemon)
Jellicent line = Tentacruel (Jellyfish Pokemon)
Klinklang line = Magneton line (inanimate objects)
Bouffalant = Tauros
Genesect = Mewtwo (Legendary Pokemon cloned by Evil Team)

Ok, time for a Ruby/Sapphire remake wish list time! :D

What I want the remakes to have:

Return of seasons for Hoenn.
- I know it's supposed to be kind of tropical but still, seasons were probably my favorite addition in gen 5 and I was really sad to see it disappear from gen 6

Bring customizable clothing to the remakes and expand on the things you can buy. Have an option to design your own clothes.
- It's just random fun to find clothes you like and have your character wear them. Then change them again a couple minutes later.

Heavily expand on the Secret Base feature.
- Probably something every one wants. Make it similar to AC New Leaf. Have random furniture appear at stores every day with some furniture being rarer in some games than others. Make it so you don't have to streetpass to share furniture. Access your 3DS friend list to share rare furniture, share your Secret Base, etc.

Fix the X/Y (Z?) engine.
- HG/SS was a modified Platinum engine. And it looked fantastic compared to D/P. No more frame drops during battles.

More dynamic weather.
- X/Y are kind of a step in the right direction. There is actually rain in towns (I don't remember if gen 5 did this). Make it so that sometimes it's foggy, raining, very sunny, snowing at random in random places all over Hoenn, even in the ocean routes. I really liked the thunderstorms in that one route with tall grass in Hoenn. The random flashes of lightning, so good.

Make cycling road more exciting.
- Seriously every one, gen 3 cycle road sucks.

Make it easier to exchange Mach bike and Acro Bike rather than fly to Mauville every time.
- Change gears/features on the fly or whatever. It's a hassle when you have to go back every time. Also add some new tricks to the Acro Bike. Add a skate park. The Pokemon X-Games.

Pokeblocks and Contests.
- I'm kind of iffy on this because I didn't like the contests a lot but they were ok. Make Pokeblocks with your online friends.

Keep Amie, Super Trainer, add in PokeNav on the bottom screen.
- I like these features in X. I also like having the game map on the bottom screen. Please Game Freak.

I don't care if Steven or Wallace is the champion, give them a more varied team other than almost all rock/steel/ground or water/ice.
- Wallace will probably be the Champion if the remake is of Emerald like HG/SS was of Crystal. But seriously, their team sucks.

Just get rid of Mirage Island.
- There's really no point to it.

Animation for the scene when Groudon or Kyogre is released. Maybe for some other events too.
- Just to make it look cool. Animation scenes for the volcano and sub scene would be great.

Space Center should have a real purpose.
- Where's my Deoxys or Jirachi?! You don't need to have us go to space. Make a shuttle launch. Few days later it comes back and unknowingly brings one of them with the shuttle.

I am disappointed in the night effect in Gen 5 and Gen 6. Fix it.
- Why is it still so darn bright in game when you're on a random route during night time? Gen 4 got night time right. It was actually dark like night time.

I miss the little artwork that shows up when you enter a significant location like a cave or forest.
- Please bring this back. It was just a nice touch to see when you traveled around. Add some to the cities too.

Better Wally/May/Brendan story/fight?
- They were just kind of there. Wally should've been more involved at least rather than disappearing till Victory Road.

I'm probably missing a few other things I wanted to add but can't remember right now.

I don't see the MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL.
......
......
......
I loved Emerald (and Ruby/Sapphire, but Emerald was so much better)....
......
BUT.....
......
......
THERE IS TOO MUCH WATER!!!

So make them sequels so that there is more land. With sequels they aren't limited by the vast amount of water they had in Gen 3.

Also, no seasons please, they were cool as a one-time thing. Just do them like how X/Y did it. Each season was represented in a different parts of Kalos.

Water would be ok if there wasn't so many random encounters. Either make it so that repels are cheaper/more available for make areas where there are no encounters on the water, like deep water or something.

And Hoenn is too tropical for seasons anyway.

Well of course all of them are easy, but the point is that Kanto having low leveled Pokemon still is really wtf, and the lack of a VS Seeker really hurts it. The distribution is pretty terrible and having most of the decent Gen 2 Pokemon not even show up in Johto was stupid. I love HG/SS but liked said earlier in the topic, it didn't address any of the cons that the original had. Could have been the most refined Pokemon experience.

BW2 has awesome Pokemon distibution and a pretty fast pace, though admittedly I think it was released too close when people were already tired of DS games by BW's release.

Anyway, all these lists are silly without Gen 1 being at the top (with glitches). I'd put it like middle otherwise, but with glitches the game is hilariously broken and fun.

Horizon's list is pretty great. WiFi Secret Base is seriously enough for me to buy the game, even if the remake barely improves in any other areas.

As for me:
-WiFi Secret Base (as already stated)
-Day/Night. I want that back because it added atmosphere to the world.
-Colors. Gen 6's visuals are kind of too desaturated, giving it a much lesser cheerful look to it. I'm worried that if they remake RSE, they're gonna use the same exact art style XY has. (Not hating on the art style though, I really like the Pokemon models in battles, they're amazing outside of the desaturated palette)
-Keep the Trainer customization XY has, but with much more options. Even options to dress up like the protags from other games too!
-KEEP the Casino, please... Or at least pull a HGSS and give us Voltorb Flip and other cool new games!
-Bring back VS Seeker. Why is it gone? I know RSE didn't have it in the first place, but FRLG did, so... why exclude it anymore? I like it much more than fighting the same set of trainers in a 5 star cafe or getting called by a trainer instead of being willing to fight almost all of the time.
-Less water or at least add more islands to make the huge sea more interesting.
-Add a few more Gen 1/2 Pokemon to the Hoenndex. Especially now that XY has such a giant variety of Pokemon, it wouldn't hurt to do the same here. And then add Gen 4/5 Pokemon for post-game perhaps?
-Add Pokemon following you back! I'd love to have my leading Pokemon following me, it's such a cool thing.

Someone remind me again how happiness accrues. Is it something I get from sortieing in a fight, or just going up levels?

Every little thing counts when it comes to happiness. Just do normal stuff, and don't let your Pokémon faint often or use bitter medicine.

(If you're thinking of affection, it's a separate mini-game.)

I am impartial to the whole game corner thing but everything else up there, yes. VS seeker should be a mandatory key item in every gen.

Ah, I was just hoping there was a good, quick way of jacking up my Eevee's happiness so I could evolve it in the next level.

* More Water

* Steven Stone as the Champion again.

* Get rid of Flash and Rock Smash as HMs and remove every situation where their use is required to progress.

* More Water

* Add more Dive Spots and more areas like the abandoned ship to the game. Surfing in RSE was adventure incarnate, GF should crank that up to eleven.

* Throw the genies in the game as roaming legends that actually change the weather in the area. LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE WITH THE BIRDS

* More Water

* Bring Pokémon contests over exactly as they were. Pokéblock and feebass' old evolution method can go to hell though.

* Put Manaphy in the game and give it a subquest on par with the regis.

* More Water

* Streetpass Secret Bases.

* There's a tunnel in the Hoenn Battle Frontier full of smeargle. Kick them out and replace them with a wide variety of interesting monsters instead.

*I know it's an unpopular opinion, but enjoyed surfing around Hoenn. It felt like there was always something interesting to see or do. The best thing a RSEmake could do is recapture that feeling.

Actually, surfing around Hoenn with the XY over-the-shoulder camera view might be pretty cool. Speed it up, cut the encounter rate, and have the Sky Pillar, Sootopolis and Ever Grande looming out of the fog. Visually neat, if nothing else.

Ah, I was just hoping there was a good, quick way of jacking up my Eevee's happiness so I could evolve it in the next level.

In X and Y if you're talking about just evolving to Espeon or Umbreon (or any other evolution happiness based) there is a really easy way to do it. Give the pokemon a soothe bell and then go to the Lumiose circle and use the coin trick (I use a guitar pick :)) to continuously ride your bike around the circle. After maybe 10 minutes or so you should be at max happiness. Just level it up once in either day or night and it should evolve to Espeon or Umbreon, respectively.

Soothe bell increases friendship/happiness gained while walking (and all other happiness relacted actions??) so it just makes it faster. I use this method all the time it is very convenient.

If you want to evolve to Sylveon I think the only way is to use Amie.

Yeah, just making the surfing speed faster and turning the encounter rate down for surfing would make people hate it a lot less. Your camera idea is really cool too, I think XY should have had more dynamic cameras because the few it did have were awesome.

Suede finally released the review of Pokemon 4Ever. With a disclaimer about JewWario.
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/ir/suede/animenia/42368-animenia-pokemon-4ever

This might be the last review considering what happened... but we'll see.

Yeah, seems like the last one. I absolutely wouldn't blame them, either- when a collaboration goes through such tragedy, I can imagine it being extremely painful to even consider continuing it.

Very far from everyone concerned's top priority, I'm certain, but it'd be a shame.

Oh yea, the dynamic camera working with surf to see stuff over the distance would definitely be cool. I completely forgot how fast surfing was in X/Y.

I hope they have a lot of different water-type Pokemon. I've seen enough Tentacool and Wingull/Pelipper for a lifetime.
