I respectfully disagreeYOU'RE CRAZY
Unova's route layout might not be amazing, but each individual route is brilliantly made, twice as big as it appears on first glance. And in terms of navigation, Unova spoiled me instantly by allowing me to travel the whole region without the use of HMs. No way I could go back to the mess that was Sinnoh after that.
Monster preferences are the definition of subjective, and BW did have a limited selection of water types. But it's nowhere near as bad as DPs Fire drought. Not when frillish/jellicent exist.
Diamond and Pearl did have a lot of problems, but I actually remember them quite fondly. I really liked the Sinnoh region. Maybe it was just because it was the first game in pseudo 3D? There were a lot of memorable areas though, especially the northern snow routes. I also liked around half of the Pokedex, so Sinnoh definitely wins out in that regard. Gen IV was also the first to introduce online battling and I had so much fun with that. Oh, and using HM's to get around a region has never really bothered me to be honest.
As for the Unova region...it wasn't just the route layout. Everywhere I visited, whether it be Towns, Cities or the routes in between just felt...dull and uninspired. I remember being very excited to finally get to Castelia City and once I made it there I realized it was just a big empty husk with nothing to do. There are some nice areas that are locked out until after the Elite Four, though.
Again, the main reason I dislike Gen V is because I hated most of the Pokemon designs. I had managed to stay relatively in the dark on the Unova Pokedex going into Black/White, and then was disappointed by almost everything that I encountered. I LOVED
SmugleafSnivy and was happy to choose him as my starter since the other two sucked anyway. Then it evolved into...Serperior. I was let down by evolutions quite a few times actually. Tirtouga becoming Carracosta sucked. I caught a Scraggy (which is a design from Gen V that is adorable), but it evolved into Scrafty which I think is fairly ugly. I challenged the Elite Four with five Pokemon for the first time ever in a Pokemon game (Serperior, Unfezant, Excadrill, Krookodile and Carracosta) because I couldn't find anything else worth adding. Of my team, I only really liked Krookodile. Unfezant was for Fly, Carracosta was for Surf and Excadrill was kept only because he was a powerhouse.
Most of the legendaries were pretty awful too, especially the three musteteers and the My Little Pony Keldeo. Zekrom and Reshiram are passable I guess, but Kyurem is pretty bad. Meloetta sucks too. Genesect is pretty great though, he was the best legendary since Rayquaza.
I also didn't like that a LOT of the Pokemon were just thematic retakes on Kanto designs. They were trying to recreate the feel Gen I and it didn't work for me at all.
