Welcome to the World of Pokemon aka Earth. That's right, for the first time, Pokemon are right here on our own planet! They're in your house! Outside of your house! They watch you while you sleep!

When you first start up your game, you'll be prompted to log in with either a Pokemon Trainer Club Account or a Google/Apple(?) account. We've got a lot of reports that the PTC is being hammered so it might not be a bad idea to just log in with your regular app store account.

After logging in, Professor bishounen Rick Sanchez Willow will give you a real quick rundown of everything. Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle will appear at your feet and you'll start the battle sequence. Essentially for capturing Pokemon in this game, you'll be flicking the Pokeball towards them and hoping for a capture. So far it's been relatively easy to capture any Pokemon although you may go through a few balls. You start off with around 50 so you wont have to worry too much for a little bit.

wQMyJpn.png

why he dress in layers though. its too hot out for that.

After catching and entering your username, you'll be free to start exploring!

Sy6122j.png

After the new August 2016 update and removal of the previous "feetprint" tracking, Niantic has added a new tracking system. Basically it works how the other one was working. Pokemon nearby will appear and disappear if you venture too far away. This time, only one of them will appear on your tracker so you won't see a page full of one kind of Pokemon and make you cry.

b87UXT0.png
G9aSrRk.png

In this scenario, you'll notice that Spearow is the first Pokemon that appears on the lefthand side of your "Nearby" list. When closing that menu, you'll then see which other Pokemon are nearby. Therefore, Spearow should be appearing first nearby you. This of course may change depending on the direction you head, but it gives you a good idea of what you'll be seeing.

Users in some locations (notably in SoCal; here's our own Toki767's post) have reported newer tracking systems.
These "nearby" Pokemon have appeared at a nearby Pokestop. Tap the icon and it'll show you an overhead view of the map and where that Pokemon is. It's not clear if this is something they're rolling out to all users or perhaps those in special areas, but it's pretty neat.

In addition to capturing a Pokemon, you'll want to capture more of the same Pokemon as well because you'll get "X Candy" which is how you'll evolve and "train" your Pokemon.

Stardust_Candy_EN.png

Each capture usually grants 3 of that Pokemon's candy (evolved stages may give more?) and if you have extra mons, you can send them to the Professor to get one of that type of candy as well.

Of course, you should hang onto some of your extras because.....

You gotta fight for what you believe in! Pokemon Gyms are available in random places throughout our world (likely similar spots in Ingress) which you can challenge, train or take over.

You wont be able to do so until Level 5 though so make sure you capture lots of Pokemon!

When you challenge a Gym for the first time, you'll get to choose a team
vLBGvE3.jpg

Choose whichever team you'd like. Which should be Team Valor.
Right now the teams have no effect on gameplay, however it was revealed at the SDCC Go panel that the leaders would play a bigger role down the line.

Your team leader will also pop up and give you information on your Pokemon. What do they mean? Here's a handy guide:
And then support your team!

When challenging a gym, you'll be fighting a Pokemon left there by another player. If there isn't one, you should be able to simply capture it..and leave your own Pokemon there to protect it! (that's why you might want to hold onto stronger extra Pokemon!)

Zva1eob.png

In battling, you can either:

  • Do a ‘Fast Attack’ – tap your Pokemon to perform this move. This charges your ‘special meter’.
  • Dodge attacks – swipe left or right on the screen when your opponent strikes to avoid taking damage
  • Do a ‘Special Attack’ – once that special meter is charged, press and hold on your Pokémon to perform the move. This will do considerably more damage to the opponent!

A Pokémon faints when all of their HP is depleted, and a battle won when no more Pokémon remain on the opponent’s side. Damage depends on your Pokémon’s ‘CP’ (Combat Points). Higher level Pokémon have a higher CP rating. This number differs from Pokémon to Pokémon (even those of the same species). You gain more access to more powerful Pokémon with higher CP the higher your trainer level. However, evolved Pokémon tend to have a higher CP than unevolved ones, and so forth. Type advantages and your Pokémon’s moveset will come into play as well.

If there's other players in your area of the same team as you, you can team up and fight the enemy Pokemon to capture the gym for your team. If you encounter a gym of your color, you can leave a Pokemon to help defend it, or train there and power up your mons!

GNaLsN6.png

PokeStops are the other locations you'll find in the world. These places are simply checkpoints you can visit and get items from. Simply get close to one, tap the icon and spin the image to receive 3 items. (You should be able to visit again in 5-10 minutes)

KzI4It0.jpg

You can get lots of great stuff from PokeStops like more Pokeballs, incense (to capture Pokemon!) and even eggs which you can incubate and hatch.

They mostly seem to be at churches or memorials throughout many cities, so check there first. You're bound to find some.
Sponsored Locations
Sponsored Locations are PokeStops that a company has paid for to appear in the game. Basically, this should simply mean that the PokeStop is at a physical store, in the hopes you'll visit and maybe buy something.

So you're probably wondering about Legendary Pokemon like the birds and Mew/Mewtwo. Well.....so far we've gotten no indication of where they could be, or if there's more than one or anything really. So stay tuned I guess? If you see one, please let us know and provide some screenshots. Similarly, someone reported they found a shiny but never replied back. Let us know please!

Pokemon Go Plus is an extra accessory you'll be able to pick up for Pokemon Go at the end of July some point in September. Costing $35, you can wear it on a wristband or clip it to your shirt. The accessory connects to the game via bluetooth and from what we understand:

- You can get items from PokeStops by pushing the button when it vibrates. You'll maybe have to pick them up in the game, but they'll likely be auto collected basically and go right into your inventory.
- You can capture Pokemon by hitting the button without taking out your phone. However, you'll only be able to capture Pokemon you already have.
- We don't really know what exactly you might be able to do with it right now however (can you get steps in for your eggs? Will it notify you of gyms nearby? What's the vibration difference between Pokemon and Stops? etc)
- the accessory was up on Gamestop with a July 31st release, however it doesn't look like they're still taking preorders. It'll likely be available at all retailers but with how popular the game is, you may want to plunk some money down soon!
Update: GO Plus is now said to be released in September 2016

FAQ
- Why can't I find X Pokemon?
Different Pokemon appear all throughout the country and world! Try checking out new places if all you're getting is the same Pokemon. Additionally, scope out PokeStops and hope you get some eggs, which can hatch into any Pokemon.

-How do I fight gyms?
After getting to level 5 access a gym and select your team. You can fight other gyms and take them over, or you can train and add Pokemon to one held by your team. If there's animations happening around it, it's under attack. You might be able to fight with someone or have to defend it!

-Why isn't X working?
Be patient, The game is under a lot of stress because of how many people are playing. If something isn't working, you might have to simply come back later. If something freezes, wait a while, kill the app and try again.

-AR is bugged for me halp!
In battle you can turn off AR in the top right to display a generic grassy background. This works really well if you're trying to go after a Pokemon like Zubat that's small and flaps all around.

-What does CP mean? What does the XL/XS/whatever mean for the Pokemon?
CP is "Combat Points", think of it as a Pokemon's "level" from the main games. CP is how strong they are when attacking and is modified based on several factors including the size, weight, species, and even your trainer level. Your level I think is the most important because you wont be finding really good mons until you begin to level up. CP doesn't matter much on a overall scale, but it's useful when taking on a gym so you don't get btfo by a Raticate. But you can fight stronger ones regardless of your CP...and your stronger CP mons can be taken out by babbies.

- How can I tell what my Eevee is going to turn into. I heard [insert rumor here]
We...really don't know. Many, many users have reported naming the Eevee after the Eevee Brothers from the anime will change Eevee into the corresponding evolution. (Rainer for Vaporeon, Sparky for Jolteon and Pyro for Flareon). Some users say it works, some don't but generally there appears to be about a 75% success rate which is more than the "I have absolute no idea" method of just evolving.

Qb5ph6W.png

- Why can't I find X Pokemon?
Some Pokemon are rare (usually evolutions and starters) but you also wont be finding other certain Pokemon, namely the legendaries and Ditto. It also would appear that certain Pokemon are exclusive to one region or another: Tauros is exclusive to North America, Mr. Mime is exclusive to Europe, Farfetch'd in Asia and Kangaskhan in Australia.

Just a few things to throw out here too; right now there's no "softbans" for people playing while driving. DONT BE AN IDIOT AND PLAY THE GAME WHILE DRIVING. If you'd like it on to see where Pokespots are around you, you should look for a car mount that holds your phone somewhere on your middle console in your vehicle. Outside of looking where you're going, don't be a ass and play and get in an accident. I don't want to see any articles about that.

Crab has revealed that the game's internal code was dumped and helped us sort out a few things. Lucumo has gathered some of the info revealed so far.

I have a Samsung S3 Galaxy with Android 4.4.2 so I can't play this :( It says the app is not compatible with my phone.

I'm still hoping the app will launch in both Canada & Mexico ASAP. The wait is killing me, especially since I can only play the game on my iPhone 6s.

New thread, yay. Can you include

rsz_team_mysticj4sbo.png

in the OP for those who want it? (Need more people showing they are in the best team.)

Yesterday sucked. Servers were down all day while I was out and I couldn't get any Pokeballs. I've been out of Pokeballs for 2 days already.

Damn, the battles are truly awful. I didn't expect the depth of the original battle system and I'm still overly disappointed.

Level 9 and I simply can't log in anymore. Since the launch yesterday the game has been outright unplayable whatsoever. Put an extra GameCube at it damn it!

I keep hoping ill get something interesting in my 2 km eggs but like it is all over, I keep getting weedles and rattatas. (and pidgeys) I want a bulbasaur! Shit should be common :p ... And I also want
a charmander and a pikachu!

Edit. Servers are up for me. Europe here

I hope an official release for Intel devices drops soon. The game runs okay for the most part on my Zenfone 2, but the gym battles are borderline unplayable.

Also, #TeamMystic represent!

The game has brought out some great moments.

Including a lure dropped inside the US Capitol.

If I'm using a lucky egg should I use Incense at the same time to attract more Pokemon for bonus XP? Some of the 30 minutes would need to be taken up evolving Pokemon and not catching them, so I don't know whether it's worth using both at once.

Jolteon can only learn Thunder Shock as a fast move, which has a power of 5 and a duration of 0.6 seconds. Thunder Shock adds 7 energy out of 100 per use, so 100 Thunder Shocks makes for 7 Thunders, 14 Thunder Bolts, or 21 Discharges.

I'll compare the three Jolteons, over 100 uses of Thunder Shock and then all their specials to look at the DPM (damage per minute).

Jolteon w/ Spark, Thunder: 100 uses of Thundershock at 6.25 power per 0.6 seconds is 625 power in 60 seconds, 7 uses of Thunder at 81.25 power per 4.2 seconds is an additional 568.75 power in 29.4 seconds, for a total of 1193.75 power in 89.4 seconds, so 801.17 DPM.

Jolteon w/Spark, Thunderbolt: 100 uses of Thundershock at 6.25 power per 0.6 seconds is 625 power in 60 seconds, 14 uses of Thunderbolt at 62.5 power per 2.7 seconds is an additional 875 power in 37.8 seconds, for a total of 1500 power in 97.8 seconds, so 920.24 DPM.

Jolteon w/Spark, Discharge: 100 uses of Thundershock at 6.25 power per 0.6 seconds is 625 power in 60 seconds, 21 uses of Discharge 50 power per 2.5 seconds is an additional 1050 power in 52.5 seconds, for a total of 1675 power in 112.5 seconds, so 893.33 DPM.

So Thunderbolt > Discharge >> Thunder for Jolteon.

Thunder kind of sucks, the animation is way too long to be useful.

Lmao, I'm second and I don't even have the game (yet) XD
Well, I just bought cheap phone on ebay, so I will be able to fix that.

That just makes you the worst addict of us all, haha.

Is there something like this for other Pokemon as well? Also, you have to consider the animation. One thunder is probably faster than three discharges (at least that matters with these laggy servers...which sometimes even eat my special attack).

Broken Joystick

At least you can talk. Who are you?
I'm enjoying this so much but god damn does is this thing so unstable at the minute. If it's not the servers, it's a frozen Pokeball, unable to receive touch inputs, not capturing Pokemon correctly.

Hopefully now it's nearing global release, priorities will shift to updates and so.

I did include the animation speed - that's why it says

14 uses of Thunderbolt at 62.5 power per 2.7 seconds

Thunder has a really long animation (4.2 seconds) which is why it is so poor. To be honest, Jolteon absolutely got the shite end of the stick compared to the two other Eeveelutions, especially Vaporeon, which, from the set of 'mons I've examined so far, is probably actually the strongest Pokemon in the game now we know STAB is present at 1.25x. Water Gun Vaporeon wrecks fools.

I'm busy working on an excel calculator that figures out the best moveset for you, plus the best attackers against any given type and so on.

Servers seem stable yet? I've got a lucky egg and evolution to do/ eggs to hatch but I don't want to waste it.
In my experience, the game never "just" hangs. It's usually when I try to catch a pokemon and the ball just doesn't do anything, then having to force quit and pray to get logged on when things get tricky. Other than that, once you're in and don't try to catch anything, you should be fine and able to enjoy that sweet 2x XP.

Are you sure about Gamestop being sponsored locations? I recognize pokestops on the list there in NY and NJ have long been Ingress portals. Looks more like Gamestop riding the coattail.

I hate the 3 step glitch that's going on right now; Seeing pokemon that I haven't caught and not being able to track them "i'm not good at that anyway" makes it difficult. Love going on walks with my son though, he loves it. He keeps putting his booger fingers all over my screen though.
