Pokémon Go |OT 3| "No Officer, I'm a Passenger"

Picking a new approach: trying to take on a single easy raid each day, something I can do alone. The errors make it really hard, almost timed out on Magmar because of the bugs, but still made it. Good enough to get some Rare Candy to slowly move to Puppitar. Also put myself on two gyms, so I'm getting some coins. Should try that more.

I try to do at least 1 raid a day (since you get 1 free a day). So I'll usually do a tier 1 or 2 if I don't end going a T3/4 raid with others.

I tried to go to a Snorlax raid earlier today. But sadly, and oddly noone around for it. Ironically on the Discord over the course of an hour of it happening enough people did show up / expressed interest in it. But I already went back to work after not seeing anything for 15 minutes.

Tried to do a Machamp raid (had to use yesterday's free raid pass), and I failed it. Got maybe within 15%. Besides 1 Alakazam that IO have slightly powered up, don't really have many good Psychic Pokemon yet. If I had more, I'm sure I could do it solo.

Ended up doing a Executor raid and Vaporeon raid after successfully, as I mentioned before.

Yeah at first I was like "why bother with low level raids?" but then I realized the items are super good.

Might start doing the same.

Just make sure you always use yesterday's pass so that you still have a free pass for if something interesting should appear.

Finished participating in a study for class, walked outside, Tyranitar raid had just started. Walked over to the gym, two folks were wrapping up a failed attempt. Joined em for the next round, with a few random unseen people joining in. We failed the first two times, just barely, but by the third time there was enough people that we finished it with around a minute to spare, give or take (sadly one of the people I was sitting near couldn't get in the 3rd time, but since we couldn't see the other 6 or so people I wasn't about to suggest we quit for him and then miss my chance, lol). Caught it with my 3rd ball, it was a Wonder (93% according to Poké Genie), and made it back to my car JUST in time for the parking meter to end on arrival, lol.

Gofest will not have legendaries lol

What makes you so sure? They've said the Legendaries will be released this summer and Go Fest is smack dab in the middle of the summer. And what better place to release probably the most anticipated addition to the game than your first major event?

I'm guessing they will drop at Go Fest and then unlock globally the following day.

They probably want to stagger the raid bosses. Dragonite and Blissey aren't even raid bosses right now. The most logical choice is to have an anniversary event to tide things over like shiny Pikachu, more rare raid bosses and more stardust or whatever. They're not going to release legendaries just because of an anniversary. People are still excited about Tyranitar raids. Hell, people want to do Machamp raids just to have more ammunition for Tyranitar raids.

What would be really helpfull is to see how many players are currently in the lobby of the raid before you actually spend your raid pass.

What if 10 people look and see no one there so no one joins?

It needs to be free to join battles, with the pass used for rewards after. That encourages people to battle as much as possible and allows people to actually team up.

As is I'm just soloing a level 3 raid every day, and occasionally going around doing a bunch of level 3's with a friend. I tried level 4's a few times but there's never been enough people in my area, so now I'm just never going to try one again.

Niantic has already committed to releasing legendaries this summer though. So when do you expect them to drop?

And I'm guessing an anniversary event with everything you mentioned would be this week, during the actual anniversary; not during Go Fest which is like 3 weeks from now.

Who the hell needs more than two? Aside from a cranky lapras with ice beam I've never lost more than two on a raid, and I've never seen more than half a dozen people show up for even for tyranitar.

The more I think about it, the more it seems like raids should have been "free" activities. You fight a boss, you beat it and get a loot chest, and then you pay for a key to unlock/open that chest. You give players 1 free key per day. Making people pay just to try out a raid is too much, and discourages people from doing more than 1-2 raids per day.

Honestly, even just "refunding" a failed raid (as in, giving back the pass) would be a good, fair fix, IMO.

Though ideally tier 1 and 2 raids would just be free altogether, because they're kind of a waste unless you have a daily pass you don't want to go unused and don't have a chance to do a 3+.

Paid "Raid Loot Keys" would be interesting, and kind of reminds me of the keys you have to earn for the big chest at the end of the Firefight mode in Destiny (actual name of the Mode escapes me), but I don't think that would play well with typical players. Even though it's kind of the same as now, people would perceive it as having to buy loot and would probably resent raids more. "I have to beat a boss and then PAY for the reward?"

If you could signal that you are intending to join a raid before giving the raid pass it would help, let me see if anyone else is coming before I waste it

Like when you click on the raid it shows you how many people have shown interest in the area

Should just move the moment the raid pass is used. So let you join the queue, and once the fight starts, the raid pass is used up. This lets you see how many people join.

Press release about the anniversary event has been sent out. Serebii.net has the details:

The next Pokémon GO event has been announced. This event, to celebrate the game's 1st birthday today, will run from today until July 13th 2017. It contains a special Pikachu appear featuring Ash's cap from the anime. It also includes the Anniversary Box, which contains Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls and a Raid Pass, will also be available for a limited time through the in-game shop at a discounted price.

Niantic will likely tweet about it soon.

EDIT: Eurogamer has posted about it too. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ates-first-anniversary-with-new-pikachu-event

Really wanted more stardust. :(

Anniversary Box: Raid Item, Incubator, Ultra Balls & Max Potions? Ok, you got my attention! I'll likely buy a lot!

Do you know how pissed some people in our group were about not getting Santachu after they ruined the encounter rate?

Oh boy, this is gonna break some hearts for sure.

Encounter rate for Santachu? I remember Pikachu being super common during that event, I still have like 15 Santachus + 2 Raichus due to them being common.

Maybe you meant the Hat Pikachu? I remember that 1 being hard to find/etc. I only have 2 of those.

Also, tried to do a Flareon raid by myself before work. Nope. Didn't even get close. lol

It's official. http://pokemongolive.com/en/post/birthday2017

Trainers,

It’s hard to believe that Pokémon GO launched just a year ago, and what an amazing year it’s been! Since joining us last July, you’ve demonstrated the true power of Pokémon GO and augmented reality gaming by searching for Pokémon in the real world, exploring on foot, building new friendships, and discovering new places right in your own neighborhoods. Throughout this incredible journey, you’ve caught over 125 billion Pokémon and made countless memories along the way. But there are many more adventures still to come.

Just a few weeks ago, the one-year anniversary celebration kicked off with a bang. You and millions of other Trainers went outside to battle in revamped Gyms and participate in Raid Battles with family and friends for the first time, but this was only the beginning of an action-packed couple of months. The celebration continues with a special Pikachu wearing a familiar hat appearing all over the world. From July 6 at 1:00 P.M. PDT to July 24 at 1:00 P.M. PDT, Pikachu discovered in the wild will be wearing Ash’s famous hat from the Pokémon animated series, so make sure you don’t miss out on your opportunity to catch one! You’ll also be able to stock up for Raid Battles and the events ahead with the special limited-time Anniversary Box, which will include Incubators, Max Revives, Ultra Balls, and Raid Passes at a discount in the in-game shop.

Stay tuned for even more exciting news over the coming weeks, including additional information on Pokémon GO Fest Chicago this July, events hosted at select Unibail-Rodamco locations this August and September in Europe, and Pokémon GO events at the Pikachu Outbreak in Yokohama, Japan, this August!

Well, there is a discount of sorts, it's just in the form of a bundle. Hopefully the box is actually a good deal.

Guess I will have to buy my bag upgrades at full price though. :(

Yeah it was Party Hat Pikachu, my bad. Santachu I have like 2 of and a Raichu. Party Hat I barely found one and most people I know who still played found zero.

We had someone copy paste fake updates in our local group, said it was fake because there's no source, but people still believed it lol

Yes! Another Pikachu. Hope Raichu keeps the hat!

It better. Unfortunately this looks like a hat-a-chu from Sun and Moon (note the hat pushes down the ears), so the effort of porting the hat from pikachu to raichu is slightly above trivial this time. Also it's Ash's hat, and he's a Raichu hating loser.

Edit: Oh, turns out hat-a-chu in sun and moon has the same model as regular-chu, just with tweaked animations to account for the ears. I thought it might be like cosplay-chu, which has a new rig and new animations.

Soloed a couple 2* raids, Magmar and Exeggutor. Caught both and got 3 Rare Candies and some Gold berries (still waiting on some Charge TM's, though). I also used some Evo Items on Scyther and Seadra to clear a little space in my bag.

I can't help but feel disappointed by the anniversary event. Might buy a bundle or two, and another hatted Pikachu is whatever. One more event perk could have made it much better, oh well....

Tried to solo Alakazam. Only got it down to 1/4. But I don't really have good counters for it. With some training and better Pokemon I might make it.
That was my first wasted raid pass :(
