Pokémon Go |OT 3| "No Officer, I'm a Passenger"

So I just got a new gym in my neighbourhood...

Also pick any team you want. Raids don't matter what color you are, and as Instinct you'll have an advantage of taking down gyms regularly than the other two colors.
It matters for extra premier balls up to 5, but it's dumb to make an assumption that your local community makes up the entire world. Just pick whatever you like. And if your family, friends and coworkers are in a specific team, even better. It's more enjoyable to play together.

Why is Heavy Slam Super Effective on Lugia?
Is this a glitch, or did they change it to Rock?
It's a bug. Attacks that should be super effective are not displayed and attacks that should not be not very effective are displayed as not very effective. ¯_(ツ)_/ ¯

Today is the actual first day that I play this in a year. Captured a Cyndaquil which is my favorite starter Pokémon! Now I'm hooked.

But now I also remember why I stopped: what team do I join????

Seriously, this keeps gnawing at me. Which team?

Seems that the event was so bad, people is suing Niantic:

Attendees who flew in from out of town, however, have a larger bone to pick with Niantic than just the price of entry.

Chicago-based attorney Thomas Zimmerman is representing the class-action lawsuit, first brought by John Norton, a Californian who flew out to the event. According to Zimmerman, another 30-50 people have joined the suit since.

Zimmerman is asking Niantic to pay for the travel expenses of his clients who ventured from much further out than Chicago to attend Pokémon Go Fest. He is quick to point out that he is not seeking more than just those travel expenses, though he believes Niantic did break their promises for what the event would be.

TBH, their demands doesn't sound crazy at all. They just want all their expenses paid

Like Firemind said, pick a team that friends or family are on.

when does the double candy end because it seems to still be going on even though it was supposed to end 30 min ago as far as I knew.

I am mostly asking because I don't want to walk to the magikarp nest near me only for it to run out @_@

Buy them or sit by a stop or gym and spin it every 5 minutes.

yup, also learn to curve ball as the less balls you use the more you don't need balls.

but just go to a pokestop dense area and walk in a big circle for a while.

I have a place near me that has 4 stops in a loop that takes about 5.5 minutes to walk that I stock up at.

Pokémon Go event was a success for me! Reach lv 36, now with 0.5 million into the 2 million for next lv. Got over 1000 Dratini candies for first time! I have enough to literally evolve 10 different Dratinis fully. Have a great amount of stardust again to last me.

Opened the app for the first time the other day since last September after hearing about the new features. Not sure how invested I'll be this time around, but I'm enjoying the improvements.

So have all online API maps been taken down? Apologies if they're frowned upon around here.

Most of the big scanners are down, I believe. But a lot of local city scanners are still up and running.

Why am I seeing way less Pokémon now? Had no idea increased spawn was event only thing. Anyway, ran out of balls, which sucks and discourages me from playing the game. Not planning to purchase balls with coins at all and getting them on stops is somewhat slow. Guess I'm gonna have to stop catching random shit for a couple of weeks and restock, the lower spawn will definitely help.

And I guess I'm never getting the legendaries lol, not planning to purchase raid passes either, so unless a legendary spawns in a nearby park at the right time so that people show up (and I catch it during the bonus game), I'm SOL.

Find a big area with lots of pokestops and spin spin spin? I probably spin 15 pokestops every morning on my way to work.

Legendary raids are easy/easier if you find a nice group. Reddit, Facebook, etc. Search for your city or town. Can easily find a discord group to make coordination good bit better.

The game feels so much more dull now that the event is over. Stardust and XP is such a slow grind, and the decreased Pokemon spawns leads to 30+ second intervals of walking with nothing happening.

The game felt so much more exciting and enjoyable during the event.

that's why events every two weeks were a good call. Something to look forward to, the base game is pretty lackluster.

Kind of.

I'm no longer motivated to catch or gain EXP, but the Legendaries are still out. People are raiding in my city, so there is still fun to be had in that respect.

The grind is rough. I won't be hitting level 35 until next year. I earned close to 500K EXP during the event, but it took me months to accumulate the same event prior to this event.

Gamexplain interviewed Ryan Copple, an attendee from the event. Says he hasn't gotten a Lugia or refund yet either. Here's a time stamp of it https://youtu.be/uiVEzPo6GCs?t=34m54s

Ryan was in the picture of the AP news article about the event.

Edit: Should note that some did get the refund and Pokemon but it seems Niantic hasn't given everyone compensation yet.

Heard the main person behind that lawsuit is a spoofer.. lol

Also, the compensation is rolling out over time it seems. Hope everyone gets their stuff soon.

Yeah, that's really not how this works. Niantic can't even remotely be held liable for people's decision to travel across the country for an event, unless maybe you could prove outright fraud.

If I fly out to New York for a Kanye West concert and it gets cancelled, Kanye doesn't owe me plane fare.

Machamp raids are already easy enough to solo for lvl. 30+ players.

I'm 34 and still struggling to take down Machamp raids by myself. What's the trick?

My current team is 3 Espeons (~2400 CP) and 3 Double Psychic Exeggutors (2100 CP). The main problem is that my Espeons just get rocked by Machamp's charge moves. Their attack animations are so slow that I often don't have time to dodge Charge attacks even when I see them incoming. So they all eat shit, and can only get off 1-2 charge moves....sometimes no charge moves if they spawn right into an incoming Dynamic Punch.

I have an Alakhazam that I could make double-psychic, but since its HP is really no better than Espeon's, I don't think that would make much difference. My Lugia can really take a good beating, but can't really dish out DPS. I'm thinking I might want to use it in the 6th slot just to prevent me from wiping in the final seconds of a raid. I also have a Dragonite with Hurricane, but it seems like a waste since it can't get a Flying quick attack.

More and more though, I feel like I might be better off with a team of good Psychic Exeggutors. I don't think they can dish out as much damage as Espeon, but they have so much more HP so I won't be getting screwed over by charge attacks as much.

Went through my entire Pokemon list and checked all their IVs, transferred all the dead weight and freed up 150+ spaces. Will make it easy to quickly compare new catches.

Found some good stuff, best IVs right now:

100%: Magmar, Meganium, Lanturn, Octillery, Blissey.

98%: Blastoise, Fearow, Magneton, Marowak, Kangaskhan, Magmar, Crobat, Donphan.

96%: Nidoqueen, Vileplume, Persian, Muk, Hitmonlee, Pinsir, Gyarados, Omastar, Feraligatr, Ledian, Togetic, Donphan, Stantler.

Pretty sure I had a 100% Seaking at one point but must have accidentally transferred it. Not a big loss at least.

That is actually the way it works. The accountability in this scenario is the lawsuit lays out the promises of the event, the breaking of those promises and the damages. Both sides will sit down and Niantic will settle the case and move on.

People have been getting their tickets illegitimately. The guy who is suing gave his QR code away lol (or more likely sold it to someone) and probably got the compensation even though he never went to the event. The e-mail Niantic has given out even says to be a good samaritan if you're a reseller.

When you're wiped out, quickly max revive a number of them, choose and rejoin. It'll take like 10-20 seconds but you'll still outdamage Lugia and get the +3 damage bonus because you're solo. When it comes to raids, DPS is king. The only important thing is to level all six to lvl. 30 minimum, some above 30 to have more leeway in case of bad lags. Start with your glass cannon to maximize DPS. Only dodge a special if your charge bar is almost full. Otherwise take it to build up your charge meter more quickly. And, yes, Dragonite with a Hurricane is a good counter.

Did my 3rd Legendary raid. Caught it again, lol. Now I start to feel bad for all people who have to do so many raids to even catch one. It was Articurio with bad IVs. Also didn't get a TM so actually not that successful raid. But it was fun.

Tried to battle a Lugia next to my house, being the only person who plays here, it was awful, 6 mons barely made a dent in its HP. 0% chance of beating one without 10 people minimum.

They really need to bring back the increased spawn rate and make it permanent.

I just played for about an hour this morning, and ugh. I can live without the double XP, stardust, and even the reduced egg distances. But there should never be a point where I have the game open with literally nothing to do.

I play in a nearby park that is flooded with Pokestops, so I do loops around it when I play. During the event, there were always Pokemon on my map to catch. This morning, however, there were multiple times were I would walk for 45+ seconds (even with incense active), with zero Pokemon showing up on the map.

It makes for a truly boring experience. Having only a Rattata or a Psyduck pop up on my map every 40 seconds is just not fun.

Yep. It's funny a bunch of I know who recently got back into it have already made that same comment. Bunch of my GAF friends are ready to bail again already this morning.

As someone else said at least have event weekends or something to give us a boost for a few days every month or something. As is the base game math is zzzzzz

This! If they don't want to give increased XP and dust and shit that's fine. Just don't nerf the spawn rates. It just makes me quit the app almost as fast as I loaded.

Trying to raid for Articuno but struggling badly - am level 30, yellow team, and suffering from either frequent app crashes or balls running out.

This is what I'm currently working with (in London, UK atm) - any advice?

forgot to put a "can't"

I want to put a Legendary in a gym and can't. after googling must've missed it when they were introduced.

you're really going to have to boost up you pokemon; i'd say ~2200 CP and atleast be apart of a big group so check your local facebook for raid groups , Tyranitars and Golems are the go to pokemon right now, but you can boost up your Arcanine for Articuno or that Jynx for Lugia, but you're going to need multiple fire, rock, steel, electric pokemon for Articuno and dark, ghost, electric, ice, and rock for Lugia

your top pokemon are way too water heavy, but you'll be straight for Moltres!

You trying to solo? If so you aren't near high enough with your backup Poke. I think everything needs to be 2K plus like your first two main Poke.

Got articuno this morning which I'm really happy about

Picked the game back up two days ago and it's been fantastic, the increased egg hatch rate and walking rate has made it feel like I'm actually making real progress

I haven't really been catching wild Pokemon or taking gyms - just doing the legendary raid's which have been a lot of fun

Will try for Moltres and Zapdos but except for that am pretty to put the game back down until the next event - I may try and do the daily raids but I suspect they will be harder to organise than the legendary ones

Kind of a shame to get a few days insight into how fun this game could be all the time but just isn't

ohhh. Yeah, can't be used in gyms. Really don't need some of the more insane 4500 cp ones in gyms :p

More useful for attacking. So more current defensive ones like Lugia probably won't be as useful currently.

Nah, you can use Caterpies and Sentrets as long as the group is big enough, since you can rejoin any time. Arcanine and Lapras can tank Articuno well, but they probably won't last the whole battle. So my advice is to try to find a local group to raid with first.

Quite hard finding people in London - especially with battery going down literally 10-15% per raid battle.

Obviously what you can do in a group is different.

Went to a random Articuno raid, looked empty, but then I saw a group waiting for a couple of stragglers. Joined them immediately, 13 people was enough to cut him down in two minutes, got only 6 balls, but still managed to catch him, on the second even when he was high.
Went to a random Lugia raid, were a lot of people there, luckily also waiting for their stragglers. Joined them immediately, 18 people, got only 6 balls, managed three Golden Razz + Great shots. Didn't get him.

You won't solo him with 2K Pokémon. The minimum run requires 4 people with the perfect counters.

Finally had a good day. Took the day off work to go raiding in the centre of town and caved in and downloaded Discord, though it it wasn't needed as every raid in central London had at least 10-20 people there. One had over 60 people, it was nuts.
Did two Lugia and three Articuno raids and only caught one Lugia, so bummed that I still have to try and catch Articuno by Monday, but happy to have Lugia and a bunch of rare candy and TMs.
Also just hit level 35.

Awesome! Glad you were finally able to get with a group and get some raids done. :)

Talk to Fright Zone here about getting into the London Discord group. You should have no problem finding people to raid with then.

Whereabouts in London?

When I was going to raids in Dalston and Shoreditch there was no one there at all, but yesterday I went into the west end and it was crazy busy at every raid. I'm talking around Oxford St, Hyde Park, Victoria, Piccadilly... the touristy areas basically.
You'll have no trouble finding people to raid with. I didn't even need Discord.

Really enjoyed the event and I think I made the most of the extra time, hatched a lot of eggs and even picked up a few more 10KM with:

-2x Larvitar (96 candies total!)
-1x Dratini
-1x Chansey
-1x Miltank
-1x Skarmory (Normally I'd be upset, but it's my first "wonder")
-1x Sudowoodo (WHY IS THIS STILL A 10KM)
-1x Aerodactyl

Very pleased overall with the hatches, and even the trash gave me a ton of stardust. No hat Pichu but I still have one 2KM left from the event so who knows. I still have over 1K Pidgey candy even after evolving a ton of them, I just Pinap'd every single one.

Just caught a Dratini with 6 candies. Makes me really miss the previously 12 I get. :(

Also, I accidentally transferred it out of habit! Meant to hold onto them till next 2x candy event. lol

yeah they really spoiled us with this event its hard going back to shit when it was perfect just yesterday

at least give us back the double spawns

Going back to the people suing Niantic, is part of the issue the cell carriers?

I couldn't do anything on my Verizon iPhone and couldn't connect to Xfinity wifi

Apparently Verizon / At&T both refused to bring out mobile cell towers. Verizon then dumbly tried to blame Niantic. lol. Sprint it seems actually listened and brought out a cell tower. I wonder if Sprint users had slightly better odds.
