Pokémon Go |OT 3| "No Officer, I'm a Passenger"

I'm currently @ 7/8 Moltres 4/9 Articuno 3/10 Lugia

Moltres kinda has a boner for me i guess, it's my least favourite legendary as well

1/1 Lugia
2/2 Articuno
2/4 Moltres

I at least want to have 2 or 3 Zapdos. Don't have that much time next week, gonna have to do a lot of raids on one day.

When you get to the catch portion, how many balls are you connecting with?

You really have to be patient. I'm 4/4 with Moltres and 6/8 on Articuno and I make sure that every ball connects.

If more than 10 people show up start splitting groups by team to maximize those bonus balls. Usually the Mystics form a group and Instinct and Valor group together.

I literally just can't connect with my curved throws no matter how many balls I have lol. And when I do connect it just breaks out. I typically get 7-11 balls most of the time since we usually split into teams if we have enough people.

I'm 5 / 10 now. Caught another 89% and then my last 1 I just did ran. That hitbox is way too small, keeps going through it for me. I can do curve balls at 1st no problem, but then becomes an issue and have to sadly switch to straight throw. I must be damn lucky, since 3 of mine caught were with straight ball lol

I switched to straight throws when you suggested it. Caught 2 yesterday.

Damn! That's like opposite of me. I caught like 70% of my Lugias and Articunos. lol. Granted, my 50% Moltres rate not bad though.

Nice! Yeah, much better chance of catching it when you can actually successfully hit it.

Second Moltres attempt and first since Tues. 11 people and one spoofer took it down very easy but sadly I was the only Valor and ended up with 6 balls. First ball was curve ball that hit normal but it jumped out, next three were all misses. Switched to forward throw, hit a great and caught that spicy boy!

So how do I work out the percentage of it?

Finally caught one. 1/8.

Had 10 balls and completely missed the first 5 throws.

Next throw I seemingly completely missed the circle hit box but it still registered it and I caught it. 91% IV.

Moltres is still garbage. I don't know why it was so difficult but at least now I can go back to raiding for candies instead of for the catch.

Nope. Gen 3 is almost independent from all other gens. Gen 4 you have to save up a lot of candy for.

Yea Gen 4 is a bit crazy. Off the top of my head, has evolutions for:

Sneasel
Togetic
Rhydon
Tangela
Electabuzz
Lickitung
Murkrow
Magneton
Magmar

Plus the two new Eevees

And I'm probably missing some more

Just saw someone playing the game IRL for the first time ever (I mean, that I know of and specifically saw their screen). I asked him if he had his masterball ready. He was catching a Jigglypuff.

Nice! I've got some good candies on all those mons so that's going to be easy. Where I live Magneton spawns every two mins, I can get 100 candies in under an hour.

Atlanta. I'm sure I'm around people all the time playing, I just haven't seen their screens.

Lol, you need to start raiding more. I live up in Roswell, and when legendaries came out I saw over 60 people at Roswell City hall doing the Lugia Raid.

I usually see over 30 different people a day from raids and just in general haha

Yeah I've already saved those specific for each one the only one I'm missing are togepi candy which I might have to use rare candy for

who ever thought it was a good idea to put moltres so far back can get bitten by a 100 mosquitoes at once and be in itchy hell for a few days.

anyways I am like 1 for 5 with moltres because I keep missing with most of my balls.

Curved, great throw with a golden razz berry and bonuses from medals gives you a 19% catch chance. Doing the same, but without curving reduces your chances down to 12%

In general it's better to throw a normal curve than get a straight great.

But its easier to connect with a Straight.

Rygar 8 Bit

Jaguar 64-bit
nabab the effect lasts 2 turns then golden raz with a curve ball worked for 3/4 of mine where the last one i went all goofy didnt take it serious or really cared and missed a bunch

which I guess makes it only 63% better but still.

it is...

but lets say I have 10 balls.

lets say straight I hit with 7 and curved I hit with 5.
12% chance on straight means over 7 tries I have like a 59% chance of catching him
19% chance on curve over 5 tries works out to a 65% chance of catching him.

assuming I remember how to do percents over tries properly still lol.

Well, that's gonna be different for everybody. I've been throwing curves almost exclusively since last year and now I can get at least a nice curved throw on everything. Legendaries pretty much always get great&curved throws [not that it helped me much].

It's just a matter of practise, I don't even think much about timing or distance at this point.

the only ones I have major problems with are the far away ones. aka moltres and zubat and a few select others.

the rest I can hit without really paying attention.

I have never seen anyone catch a legendary with a curved excellent throw. That's like the only throw that is almost guaranteed for a legendary to not get caught lol

I recommend straights for him.

According to this curves are only like 12% better

https://thesilphroad.com/science/curveball-throw-bonus-in-pokemon-go

12% is a pretty large bonus to the tiny chance of catching legendaries. 3% last I checked for Moltres? That seems like a bonus you wouldn't want to pass up.

It's like saying you don't like using berries because it wastes time that could be used to travel to another raid. You're not technically wrong, but you are giving yourself worse odds for the catch you are currently attempting.

The reason some of us use straight is cause he is very hard to hit when way far back for curve.

No doubt that it's a challenge, but the best way to improve is practice. I've certainly missed many times myself, but I'm 4/5 on Moltres (the only miss was with a phone I'm not familiar with) because I've been willing to screw up TONS of times in the past to get to the point where I am fairly consistent. All those lost pokeballs have sucked (there is one pokestop visible from my home) but the effort has certainly paid off.

I'll admit that luck has favored me some, but investing the effort to get decent with curve balls has allowed me to stack the odds in my favor.

Granted, if you only have one chance at Moltres I understand, do what you are confident with. That said if you are using your raid pass daily and doing straight throws you are handicapping yourself harshly in the long run. Let a couple run to strengthen your chances for all future legendaries, your future self your be grateful.

I've been great with curveballs except for this little bastard. They fall short almost every time. Doesn't help my phone just so happens to get glitchy come catch time.

Oddly, one of the main reasons I feel I have success is because of the great difficulty I had with pidgies. The little guys are just so close to the screen that my brain just couldn't process the throw no matter what I did. After what felt like ages I was finally able to space them out properly, and ever since I seem much more able to compensate for any distance.

Of course, I had trouble with pidgey for more than a week, and they are far more common than Moltres! Do what gives you the best odds, I just always feel the need to think long term about such things so I'm happy to fail today for a greater chance of success tomorrow.
